[Slusser] I have not heard anything about the Giants and Flaherty. Alonso would be a longshot at best. Not out of the realm of possibility but not likely unless it were on a short deal of some sort. Maybe if he’s still left during the spring like Snell and Chapman were but also unlikely.

  1. After the Verlander signing, our rotation is full. I wouldn’t expect much more from the offseason. Maybe a couple of cheaper bats like Kim.

  2. Not Surprising on either front. The rotation is good and Alonso is unnecessary given his asking price and age. Wade and co can hold down first easily.

  3. I really wish we’d get one more arm so that maybe we could trade a couple young arms for a better bat. I wonder what it would take to get Yandy Diaz off the Rays?

  4. I wouldn’t do Alonso on a short-term deal because that makes the qualifying offer penalty that much worse. Typically the draft pick loss is mitigated by having the player for a number of years. But losing the draft pick and then the player after a year ala Snell gives you practically a negative value unless the team is a player away from a deep playoff run. I’d rather sign him for a longer contract that would be tradeable in a year or two.

  5. The verlander deal was probably the nail in the coffin of another pitcher. Of the bats left I still think Santander makes a lot more sense than Alonso, with both 1B feeling more secure than RF, and it seems like Alonso really wants a long term deal which wouldn’t give either player. Would still love a Kim signing too though, though obviously unlikely.

  6. 2024 production for all 162 games by every player who played the position combined. 1b and DH are our “open” positions.

    1B: .240/.338/.350 74r 13hr 69rbi 6sb .109iso

    DH: .238/./.310/.404 80r 17hr 62rbi 2sb .166iso

    For 1b: 74r(24th) 13hr(t-30th) 69rbi(27th) in MLB.

I think the Giants could use another impact bat
