Here’s a list of free-agent quarterbacks for 2025. Which of these quarterbacks would you like to see challenge Anthony Richardson for the starting quarterback position?

  1. Obvious answer is Fields. Wouldn’t mind seeing Zach Wilson either. Don’t think MIN is letting Darnold walk out that door. Not a great group tbh.

  2. I think a lot of us are just moving on and waiting until Irsay and/or Ballard become infirm and are replaced.

  3. Well I just watched Mac Jones look like a HOFer against us. Oh wait that’s everybody we play

  4. None. What is the point? None of these people can elevate a weak team into an actual contender. None are long term options. If AR needs competition from a retread QB to actually work hard, then he isn’t a franchise QB and we should just move on.

  5. I say Jameis, he isn’t good, but at least he’s having fun out there, and that’s fun to watch.

  6. People keep talking about Fields, but given how many teams desperately need a QB, and how few are available, I see Fields getting signed to be a starter somewhere (NYG, NYJ, LV, etc)

  7. I really want Fields. I’d like a similar QB to AR. Trey Lance might be my second choice

  8. Would Dalton be good enough to challenge AR for the starting spot while recognizing he’s not part of a long term plan?

  9. This will be one of the worst, most pointless and apathetic years in franchise history so please sign Jameis because he will make every single game and press conference fun

  10. I’m probably going to get downvoted hard for this. But I think Mariota could be due for a renaissance. He has all the tools. With good coaching, he could be Minshew but with a good arm and more size. I’d be willing to let him compete.

  11. None of these. What would even be the point. If AR sucks than hopefully we have a bad record because of it and can draft one.

  12. How in the hell is Wilson gonna be a free agent yet again? Is he the biggest faker in quarterback history?

  13. It’ll be interesting to see what Ballard/Shane deem as being the “appropriate level of competition” for Richardson. At minimum, you need Richardson to truly feel like the job is not just going to be handed to him so you need the competition to be somewhat threatening…but at the same time, you’re hoping that Richardson still proves to be the guy. None of the names on this list really accomplish anything other than solidifying 6-8 wins and a mid-round pick for 2026.

Ideally, you’d bring in one of the better names on the list (without breaking the bank of course) and then Richardson beats him out because he has taken major strides in the offseason.

If we’re not dreaming and Richardson has either not improved (if that’s the case then none of this really matters) or has only made some minor improvements, putting him against some of the better names on this list in an honest competition may mean the end of the Richardson experiment. I wouldn’t be surprised if a minorly-improved Richardson would “lose” a quarterback competition to guys like Daniel/Mac Jones, Jimmy G, Winston, etc. At that point, I’m not sure what we’re accomplishing besides the usual “Trying to save jobs”.

Just a very unfortunate place to be. The only ways out appear to be Richardson taking major steps forward for 2025…or coming to terms with 2025 being a lost year and trying again with a rookie QB in 2026.

  14. I want Trey Lance and I want him to start. We might as well be bad enough to get a high enough pick to try again for 2026

  15. I would like Jameis or Fields. Jameis seems to bring good mentor vibes and at the very least is fun to watch if AR misses time.

  16. None. If Richardson is that bad he’d be losing his job to trey lance, I’d want to chalk the season anyway

  17. Jacoby Brissett for 4-5 games, signed Josh Dobbs to give us three amazing wins, cut him, sign Drew Lock if we somehow play ourselves, cut him, sign Malik Willis also vs ourselves, cut him, sign Russell Wilson and fulfill my 2012 dream of drafting him and keeping Peyton.

  18. Fields. Dude should have been the backup this past year for how little had to be given up for him.

  19. For real… Justin Fields or Daniel Jones! Both are good running QBs that would seem to fit in Steichen’s RPO Offense. With the nod going to Justin Fields first, but wouldn’t be mad with Daniel Jones either.

  20. I don’t want any of these on the team frankly.

I understand that these are the FA QBs, but how does every playoff team get by with no-name backups and third string QBs yet we have to have some 36 year old vet?

Backups on the playoff teams include Jarrett Stidham, Mitchell Trubisky, Malik Willis, Kenny Pickett, Marcus Mariota, Kyle Trask, Taylor Heinicke, Davis Mills, Josh Johnson, Nick Mullens/JJ McCarthy, and Jimmy Garoppolo.

  21. Ideally you sign a QB with a similar skill set to AR, that is a threat in the RPO game. Fields is obvious, but Daniel Jones, Trey Lance, and Mariota could also be a threat in the RPO game.

  22. 1000% we will bring in Daniel Jones for the QB competition. He wins the starting job. He has a Sam Darnold-esque rebirth in Indy.
