Fan Grid! | Day 4

  1. There it is!! Cam freakin frackin Janssen is the top vote for day 3! Chico was second, but now, it’s onto Day 4!

Things get interesting now, Best Player + Fans are Divided…. let’s see who fills the square!

    Reminders!

    – We are voting on the square with the Question Mark, so put your answer in or upvote the answer you agree with!

    – A player can only be used for a square ONCE, and its from any era of our franchise! So even if it was 1 game back in 1991, if they wore our sweater they are eligible!

Day 4 begins! LETS GO DEVILS!

  2. Taylor Hall. I don’t think a lot of people hate him but he definitely got our hopes up and didn’t quite live up to the expectations (for an extended period)

  3. Gomez (not sure about the “great” part, but he was at least very good with us).

  4. Scott Niedermeyer.

Not so much divided as a bit conflicted. On the one hand, unquestionably one of the best players of all time, and won 3 Cups with us. Devils legend. On the other hand, left *for completely understandable reasons* and went to captain *another* team to a Cup. So he ended his career with a bit of a gut punch and some bittersweet feelings amongst fans.

  5. I think Zach Parise is the right answer, but I’m curious what people think of John MacLean or Scott Gomez for this box?

  6. I didn’t know Cam Janssen was such a crowd favorite. Who doesn’t love a bruiser? But there are others I would put in here.

Seeing Janssen’s name reminded me of Jacob Josefson, who I would assume is the early favorite for worst and hated. Man he sucked. Total bust.

  7. I’m gonna say Zach Parise. I personally don’t have any ill will towards him, but I know plenty of folks were pissed when he left.

Kovy has to be saved for that bottom left spot, no doubt about it.

  8. Hmmm Schneider maybe? Loved when we couldn’t score for him. Hated when he couldn’t stop a puck after his injury.

  9. Going with Marty. Best player in franchise history and arguably the best goalie of all time. There have been a lot of people say he wasn’t the best with the fans. Also leaving to finish his career with STL was a factor too.

  10. How is this one not Marty? Franchise icon with the black mark of leaving his wife for her sister?

  11. Parise? Was a huge part of our success culminating in the 2012 finals appearance but then bailed on the franchise to sign with the Wild.

  12. Kovalchuk. One of the most dominant players on the ice, played his ass off, then bailed out to Russia. People went crazy when we traded for him. He was the biggest free agent and everyone thought he Devils couldn’t pull in top end talent like that and he was going to go to a big market team. We became immediate contenders with him and he was electric on the ice.

I place more of the “blame” on Lou for the structure of the first contract, handling of the penalty, and then working with Kovy to “retire.” I know many share that feeling, but many absolutely hate Kovy and believe he bailed on the team, screwing us. That sounds like it fits this box well.

  13. It’s Parise. I’ll never understand how some of you don’t hate him but it’s him for sure.

  14. Are we talking now or at the time. Cause Gomez (Holik you too but can you be classified as great) going to the Rangers was such a big deal at the time. Ten times worse than what Parise did, IMO.

  15. Cory. Personally one of my favorites but a large chunk of the fan base wanted nothing to do with him even with him providing absolutely BETTER play than MB30. Couple that with his injuries causing declining play and Elite goaltending causing us to miss out on high end draft picks I think it has to be him.

  16. I’m a little surprised at the Parise mentions. He was hated for a long time after leaving the team since so many fans felt like we were strung along by his whole process only to find out after the fact that he and Suter planned all along to sign in Minnesota together. Though maybe the lack of any meaningful playoff success for the Wild during his time there felt like some justice.

If anything I was more mad at Parise leaving than Kovy. Part of it was probably that we heard lots of rumblings over that lockout that he may leave the NHL so there was more time for me to have to accept what was happening along with it being the year after having my heart ripped out by Zach so I was already steeled against more heartbreak.

Idk all I know is that personally I got over Kovalchuk far sooner than I did Parise. I think the fact that I saw Zach playing in the NHL for years after while Kovy was on the other side of the world made me forget about #17 and let me get over it sooner.

  17. I feel like my vote is Parise. I don’t care that he wanted to go home and play in Minnesota and I understand that his dad was in poor health at the time and he wanted to be closer to family. Those are reasonable things to want.

The thing that makes me divided is that he was talking out of both sides of his mouth. If you wanted to go home— for those reasons above, I get it. But don’t fucking talk like you want to be here, be a man and be fucking honest about it. Lost respect for him at that point it’s not that he left, it’s that he played stupid games about leaving.

But play stupid games and you win stupid prizes, I think getting bought out by Minny cause he was cheeks there is the stupid prize.

  18. Judging by the comments, Parise is probably going to win, but I think Scott Gomez is also a good choice. Was on 2 cup winning teams but then left NY. I remember seeing fans wearing his jersey with black tape crossing out his name. Thing is, he ended up bouncing around the league and didn’t have a lot of success. Ended up retiring, and he’s sort of redeemed himself coming on a lot of Devils shows and podcasts and such to talk about the team.
