The Dome is gonna be awesome
Can’t wait
From our story:
The fight over where the Cleveland Browns will play its home games in the future landed in court on Tuesday.
Cleveland city officials, as expected, filed a lawsuit against Browns over the team’s planned move to Brook Park after the 2028 season.
The city’s lawsuit seeks to enforce the so-called “Modell Law,” a state law that puts certain restrictions on professional sports teams that intend on leaving a city that funded it with taxpayer money.
The Browns are looking to build a new, $2.4 billion domed stadium surrounded by an entertainment district.
The lawsuit was filed in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court after Mayor Justin Bibb gave Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam 10 days to start the process laid out by the law or face litigation. That time elapsed last week.
The Modell Law, passed in 1996 after former owner Art Modell moved the original Browns to Baltimore, requires the team to give Cleveland six-months’ notice before leaving town and give residents a chance to buy the team first, among other provisions.
What a waste of money by the city of Cleveland. The dome is happening. Deal with it.
Put all the money you’re wasting on this lawsuit towards the dome. Or better yet, helping out the businesses you say are going to be affected by the stadium moving.
Don’t the Browns have an existing lawsuit against Cleveland already over this matter?
This entire thing is annoying.
Fuck the Haslems.
Great, I have to watch this POS team all year and now I get to watch a billionaire and bunch of political jackasses light fire to taxpayer money over a 20 minute drive
If only the city had more pressing issues to spend their money on. It’s good that they fixed all of those potholes and infrastructure problems before they did this.
One quick way to pull the rug out from under Cleveland rebuilding as a city is to move the Browns to a suburb.
GET’EM
Really wish the City would have put ANY effort into getting Burke closed down over the last DECADE…
Jimmy’s a crook, and gonna crook towards BrookPark if he can get away with it…
But Bibb’s really sportin a bad look.
The city’s whole plan was to force a remodel of our generic stadium that can’t be domed, and kick the can… fuckin pathetic…
It’s like they are flexing simply to cover their own malaise and ineptitude.
Bibb:
*NO, I didn’t do the report… I didn’t even read the book… but I’m gonna tell my dad about this, and he’ll stop being a booster here, and you’ll get in trouble*
Like, seriously ZERO effort 👌
Even Cleveland hates the Browns.
I’m just looking forward to all of the discussions when the Browns start building in Brook Park and announce the dome isn’t happening due to cost overruns.
The Browns lease is almost over. They have no teeth on this matter.
Haslam should just change the name and avoid all this nonsense. Let the city keep Browns in a crypt for eternity.
Oh my god. Just let it go, Cleveland.
This is kind of embarrassing at this point.
What a shitshow this will be 😂
Proud to be a lifelong fan of the most garbage franchise in the NFL 😂
At this point in time let them move im beginning to believe that the ground there is sour
People mad about this saying they can’t be the Cleveland Browns if they’re not playing in Cleveland. Meanwhile, Cleveland Hopkins airport is right next door to the planned stadium site and nobody cries about renaming that.
This is a bump in the road for the awful owner named Jimmy Haslam.
Anyone got $7 billion I can borrow?
As someone unfamiliar with this ordeal what do the locals prefer
How many of the lawmakers who passed the Modell law do you think ACTUALLY believed it would be used? Like, for real…
The Browns suck
This is all political posturing by Mayor Bibb. He knows that he’s going to lose, Haslam will be building the dome, but Bibb has to “look good” to his constituents and try and show that he made an “effort” to try and keep the team downtown. Too bad this is a total waste of taxpayer dollars and time.
ITT: a bunch of people who don’t know Jack shit about economic development or municipal taxing authorities acting like a dome is a direct improvement to their personal quality of life.
My conspiracy theory, and yes it’s a theory, is Haslam hates being in Cleveland proper because it’s a politically blue town and doesn’t align with his political leanings whereas Brook Park is a politically red town.
Not trying to make this a political debate at all, but it kinda makes sense.
Good God…Do we not have more pressing issues?
It’s funny the politicians created a fake law to sell our parents a sack of shit. And now our taxes have to pay for the city to have a losing lawsuit with a football team
I don’t know why people in these threads keep acting like the dome is a foregone conclusion. They’ve yet to announce a funding mechanism, and the county already said it’s not even up for discussion. If a dome is actually happening, either Haslam will have to pay for it or the state will. Brook Park doesn’t have close to the cash or the ability to raise it. Maybe one of those other two things will happen, but we’ve literally had no indication they might. It’s not even engaging in speculation, at this point, because people are just blatantly ignoring the most important part.
And whatever you think about the legal basis of the lawsuit, stuff like this absolutely does not help if you need voter support for financing. Acting like it does is not only dumb, but it also ignores the fact that many, perhaps even most, lawsuits are not filed with the intent that they will be fully adjudicated in court.
IDC about the stadium do whatever just pay for it yourself. I think it’s gonna flop and will enjoy the show.
More political posturing. All this will ultimately do is determine what concessions each side makes for the new dome. The matter will likely be settled out of court. The Browns are moving to Brook Park and there’s nothing that’s going to stop them. The losses will be socialized and the profits will be privatized to the Haslam’s pockets. They have greased enough wheels across the state and up and down the ballot to make sure it happens.
Because this worked out well for SF and Raiders. lol
This is not exactly ‘BREAKING NEWS’
So how long until we just don’t have a team again? Like kill me now.
