On Wednesday, the Rangers realized the first step of that: A multi-year deal for the direct-to-consumer streaming rights with the parent company of Victory+, which currently broadcasts Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks games. The deal will allow fans to stream through Victory+, but unlike the Stars’ model, accessing Rangers games comes with a price. That price: “just $100 for a full season,” according to a news release from Victory+.

  1. would i rather it be free like the stars? yes.

but 100 bucks for 162 games is quite a deal. hell even assuming some national broadcast blackouts like the stars have when a major network picks up a game every now and then. it’s still a pretty good deal

  2. Good. I paid $100+/mo for spectrum just to watch the Rangers last year. Can’t wait to cancel.

  3. Dumb question – which of in-market, out-of-market, or nationally-televised games will be available?

Either way, this is way preferable to the previous options and $1 or less for each 3+ hours of entertainment is fine with me.

  4. So when their press release says ‘all regional games’ does that mean I need to live within their broadcast region to view? I do, but I just wasn’t sure what that meant.

  5. as long as I can actually watch the damn games and don’t need a cable subscription to do it, that’s a great price.

  6. Beats paying $500 a year for sling just to get a bunch of TV channels you never watch. Even if the team gets less money upfront, I bet they make more money by being more accessible.

  7. Great news! Question about the V+ app: anyone know how many simultaneous streams are allowed?

  8. >”The terms of the deal were not released, but it is expected the Rangers will do better financially than if they had accepted yet another renegotiation with Diamond Sports, the parent company of what was branded as Bally Sports Southwest in 2024, or if they had let MLB take over its broadcasts. Those have been the only two options for most of the teams that had deals with Diamond.

    >The Rangers sought a different path to focus on both widening reach and maintaining the revenue to support a top 10 payroll.”

Honestly? Huge credit to Ray Davis and the rest of the executive leadership team, here. Call it laziness or an excuse to cry poor, but I feel like so many franchises have been content to just take what was offered with Bally/Diamond markdowns or simply defer to MLB and have them carry the games, also for a lower price.

For ownership and leadership to say “No, we want to maintain a top 10 payroll in the sport and will do what it takes to secure the means to do so” is really encouraging for our long-term prospects from a fan perspective.

  9. Finally. I’ve had hell trying to watch games the past few years. I really hope this works out.

  10. I zipped on over to victory+ site. They have a email entry for a waiting list if you are so inclined.

  11. Question for anyone with experience on the Stars side of things: Could we expect to have condensed replays of games?

I used MLB.tv last year (living in NC) and relied heavily on those 8 min recaps in the mornings after west coast night games.

  12. I haven’t really used v+ much for the stars, do we know how they are on password sharing? Are they going to crack down if my account is logged in from multiple households? I know the stars are free so it may not matter much right now so they may not have a policy yet.

  13. I wonder what the number of subscribers and viewers they would have to get, to make it a better alternative than a RSN?
