Mets Insider Reveals Why A.J. Minter is a Game Changer

The Mets’ post-holiday wave of free-agent signings has finally reached the bullpen.

In need of a left-handed relief presence, the team on Friday reached agreement with A.J. Minter on a two-year contract worth $22 million, an industry source confirmed.

The deal includes an opt-out after the first season.
Minter, 31, pitched to a 2.62 ERA in 39 appearances with the Braves, for whom he has spent his entire eight-year major league career.

Minter will provide an intriguing crossover option as somebody who can handle lefties and righties.

  1. Pete BLEW IT. He chose to sign with Boras. Then He pressed the whole season. Finished with 88 RBI. Nimmo missed 6 weeks and had 91. Lindor had 91 and missed two weeks out of the Lead off spot. And Vientos didn't start full time until June and got 71. Long and short. The market showed that Pete isn't worth what Boras told him he was.

  2. Bullpens are the most difficult and trickiest components for baseball teams to assemble and manage. Other than the closer role, it's always a good idea to have relievers on fairly short-term contracts in case they get injured or end up being ineffective, which oftentimes happens. In Minter, the Mets get a left-hander on a two year deal with an opt-out, who has been mostly effective throughout his career and has playoff experience. If he's fully recovered from his left hip impingement surgery, it will prove to be an excellent signing.
