No playoff success with Big Ben, Bell, and Brown who were top rusher and WR in league at the time. NOT A BIG GAME HEAD COACH WHEN IT COUNTS. PERIOD
If he goes to another team Mediocrity will be his ceiling there also… BET ME…GUARANTEED
Doesn't get team focused, prepared, or gameplan necessary to win ANY big games when we gotta have it. THEREFORE YOU CANNOT BE CLASSIFIED AS GREAT
Regular season MEDIOCRITY isn't a winning season ever in PITTSBURGH. COME ON MAN
He will go to the Raiders 😊
The difference is Cowher built it back up and handed it over to Tomlin! But Tomlin has brought it back down for several reasons to their peak of just MEDIOCRITY.
Need a new offensive minded Head Coach with good OC snd a great DC to get back to prominence. Tomlin won't win in playoffs in Chicago or Dallas either. Mediocrity there too I guarantee it.
Reed is by far and way a better HC than Tomlin especially geared to what it takes to win offensively In today's NFL. REED IS WAY BETTER. TOMLIN WON'T SUCCEED ANYWHERE NEAR THAT.
The lesson here is the same today as it was then. When you have an elite quarterback, you win, a lot of games. And when your elite quarterback, retires, you lose a lot of games.
BEN FREAKED when MASON RUDOLF was selected…I can only imagine how he would have reacted to LJ.
Here’s something to let sink in. Harbaugh has been out of the NFL for eight years and he has more playoff wins than Tomlin.
Wild card weekend loss at Baltimore in 2017? Loss was to Jax. Last win is against KC, pre-Holmes 18-16 no td scored. All field goals.
Even if this Steelers team had Lamar, they wouldn't bother to build an offense around his strengths
Getting the most out of your players and scheming whats best for them are two different things. Tomlin gets the most out of his player but his outdated scheme puts them in a position they cant succeed in late in the season. Tomlins a great leader but hes not a schematic genius, or if he is hasnt shown it recently. Steelers need a fresh persepctive.
Mike Tomlin should STAY.
He is going nowhere.
He is staying.
It's absurd this is still being framed as "mike tomlin moving on" rather than "pitt moving on".
TJ Watt is ran out of gas this year and the defense fell off a cliff. I guess when you figure the offense isn't going to put up more than 14, what's the point.
Bill Cowher still has more playoff wins (12) than Tomlin (9) with three less years of coaching.
Queen is trash. He is always late to the whole. He plays flat footed.
Tomlin is the problem. Even when he does have talent he mismanages it. Let George Pickens behavior go unchecked as he become a worse and worse problem. Hired Arthur smith to completely destroy Jaylen Warren’s potential. Pat friermuth should be a perpetually 80 catch 1000 yard guy, and he would be in any other scheme.
There is no other coach of any color, for any other NFL franchise that wouod be able to keep his job with these results. The Steelers, being the team that helped craft “The Rooney Rule” will not fire him as what will that say about them as it relates to that rule?
So… steelers fans are stuck with him for at least another 2 yrs until his latest contract is up and maybe they can just part ways then so they dont have to 1) pay him not to be their coach and 2) not fire a guy who is the manifestation of The Rooney Rule.
Took ya long enough Rich
If just getting to the playoffs is good enough than he is great. Unfortunately it's not.
Tomlin needed to be let go five years ago. He is holding on for dear life. Tomlin is not particularly good at anything on a football team, bad offenses consistently and mediocre at best defenses every year. Tomlin shouldnt be a head coach.
I'm on the side of tomlin being a terrific coach with an amazing record, but the last few years have been so repetitive that a change of scenery might be best for both. Like a Stafford/Goff trade but with head coach
tomlin has definitely lost the fan base. Glad to hear you are coming to grips with the reality in Pittsburgh Rich Eisen….took you a long long while…..but you've recognized the obvious now.
blablablabla
It's way beyond time. Never seen such a half-assed effort from a Steelet team.
I love Coach Tomlin and have defended him over the past 3 years, after this Season it's time to part ways in my eyes !
He makes it sound like this is a Pittsburgh problem. It’s not, Tomlin has total control over the roster, play calling, and coaches. He had his Mahomes with Ben. I agree it’s time for change, but the failure is on both sides
You’re all late to the party. It was enough years ago. Any real Steelers supporters know that.
As a Steelers' fan we think Tomlin's a great coach let's see his coaching tree, he has been 18yrs a HC. Let's see his rings with a team he built not inherited
I think tomlin is tied with marvin lewis for most consecutive playoff losses.
I wouldn't mind him in Chicago.
Timlin is a one liner guy , thats all he is . He not a leader , someone is paying you to say this crap .
You can find a good defensive coordinator to fix the defense, but you can't stick with the same trash quality offensive play that Tomlin has managed since his last franchise quarterback retired. All of those losses sit solely on him and that teams moron of an owner who meddles too much in the team's scouting processes.
On the other hand you can also argue that Tomlin would rather go for having a winning season with mediocre offense and loss after loss in the playoffs just to protect his own job and jeopardize the team's prospects of drafting a 1st to third round quarterback. Tomlin is directly hurting that team with his so-called "winning seasons" and playoff busts.
Do yourself a favor and compare Tomlin’s résumé to Mike McCarthy’s. Rich seems like a likable enough guy…until he gives his own opinion.
He only won with cowhers team. To be fair they shouldve won a super bowl when they had ben, bell, and brown, but you cant keep choking away playoff games
The game was against the Cardinals, the score ended in Pittsburgh favor, the year/game was the 2009 SB
The Rooney’s let Tomlin run the WHOLE show wit this organization. From roster construction to coaching hires. He’s the sole reason he’s 8-11 in the playoffs. The annual late collapses and why we haven’t won a playoff game in 8 yrs. Yet national media lie rich sHs should HE leave us like he’s being dealt a bad hand and forced to play wit it when we constantly get the same on bad results
