Cubs’ Tom Ricketts defends payroll: We can’t spend like Dodgers, Mets

  1. Dude speaks in circular platitudes. Says they need to build a team that can compete but they won’t spend to do it because they are just trying to break even. Someone ought to ask what all their expenditures are then because the Cubs are in a gigantic market, so show people the money trail if it’s not there.

  2. There’s also the issue that spending money just to spend it doesn’t necessarily make a better ball club. We could throw $150M at Pete Alonso, but I think that hurts us in the long run.

Also, players have to want to be here. How much of an overpay are they willing to make to get someone to come here? Would 10% over the more competitive team do it? 20%? 30%?!? At some point it just doesn’t make sense.

Bad internet research shows they have more revenue than the Mets.

  4. Ya. Now the Giants are moving to the non-free premium tier of Cal NBC sports.
Radio is still free so fuck those guys.
