Pewter Pulse: Bucs Must FLOOD THE DEFENSE In The 2025 Offseason
Bucs general manager Jason Licht has built a Super Bowl-caliber offense in Tampa Bay. Now its time to rebuild the Bucs defense back into championship form. Scott Reynolds details the positions of need on defense and how Licht and the front office must attack those positions in free agency and the draft in the 2025 offseason.

The need for safety puts the WR I am looking at (Jaden Royals) in jeporady. I know some would take Malachi Starks, but he had a bad month in the playoffs. Edge is probably is the first round choice. Probably should trade down for an early second and draft Mike Green or Princely from Ol' Miss.
Draft a corner and edge rusher and we need a lil more fire power at receiver idk if Godwin still has fire power after injury
I have been saying for 4 years this team needed to a stud DE but they haven’t done anything about it. They also need to get some speed and people who can tackle at LB and CB. Players that can’t stay healthy do you no good on the sideline.
I really want to get excited to watch a mean, aggressive defense again .
Bucs should use everything on defense
We need a proven dog at the OLB/DE. Like Pierre Paul was. I like Crosby for that role (a dog on the field and a voice of nonsense guy on the locker room).
If we post June 1st cut/trade Dean & cut Whitehead we save 17.3M & that’s before we even get to re-signing Godwin which moves his dead cap hit, extend Evans, & restructure Wirfs, Baker, & Vea….. If Licht really wants to maximize this roster we could enter free agency with upwards of 50M in cap space which would allow is to go out & get an EDGE rusher like Josh Sweat & a LBer like Dre Greenlaw this defense needs attitude & both those players play pissed off
Scott what happens with spytec and greenberg if they leave the Bucs ? Will they take our draft secrets and free agent pickups with them ?
I like the idea of a veteran edge if available. The 19th pick in the draft seems like a good spot to get a good CB to pair with Zyon. Excited for the reports that will come from the senior bowl.
Will Cade be brought back?
With virtually the same players as a few years ago, the offense improved drastically. Sometimes different players does not help a broken system.
Agreed. The Bucs D looked better on paper in 2024 than things turned out. An infusion of fresh talent to bring the D up to parity with the Offense and ST would make the Bucs a strong Super Bowl contender in 2025
I need defense defense.
Play the defense.
Weren't we in salary cap distress after all the signings for the Brady years? Are we out of that yet? How did that affect our defense these past two years?
Defense has always been the Buccaneers trademark, its the side that won both Superbowls. ( the defense has scored more points than the two offenses they played against combined) it would be awesome to see RayJay be a terrifying place to play in again!
The more I think of it the more I am sure it's time to move on from Todd Bowles! That's the number one thing that needs to happen. Promote Liam Coen to head coach before we lose him. There's no use putting it off.
Promote Coen and drop Bowles. It may take him a little while to grow into the job but he has the potential to go to the top. Bowles has reached his max
Can't wait for TB to draft Jack Sawyer if he falls in our hands!
I agree that Bucs should trade for or sign a big time Edge rusher/OLB then draft one in round 1 if all the CBs they have a round 1 grade on are gone. I guess a trade back scenario would be in play.
There’s a steeper learning curve for rookie DBs compared to pass rushers
Scott is too funny. How many draft picks to you think the Bucs have this year? 😄 We hear you though, bro.
Defense and no risk it, no biscuit!
Thank you Scott
How about a better defensive scheme?
That's two Linebackers, two defensive backs, one edge and Savion Williams from TCU. Got that Jason?
Bucs better have a good D next year because if they let Coen go to another team the offense will be absolutely horrible next year!!
I love all of you ❤
Sounds like a lot to get done in one off-season. Realistically, maybe they get one starter in the secondary and draft a solid young guy to develop.
I find it hard to trust Bowles unless he overhauls the defensive staff.
SR – I assume JL and Bucs personnel watch PR content. If not then you need to send this video directly to JL and the Glazers cause anyone who knows ball would be hard pressed to argue against this strategy
Agree 👍🏼
I want the 85 Bears Defense!!! great content Scott!
First three picks need to be corner lb and edge in some order
At 19th, pick ..grabb the best available defensive player than secondary .and linebacker..
SirVocea Dennis is a borderline Bust he's played 2 years now and has done absolutely nothing. Maybe the surgery fixed him but that doesn't make him a starter
IZIEN IS A KEEPER IMO.
It's time Licht makes another block buster move, we need to trade for crosby and draft a corner high
Great video, thank you. Hopefully we draft at least 3 outside pass rushers in the draft and trade for a consistently good one if possible. Diaby seems like a good dude and he hustles, but I'm not sold on "pressures". I'd much rather get 5-10 more sacks from him, even if you cut his pressures in half. Baker was "pressured" constantly and he still lit teams up. 😛
Does anyone know our Salary cap situation for next year?
Braswell needs to have more playtime next year to help fill out LB position. He wasn’t great this year, but think an offseason of pushing weights and getting faster will work wonders for him. He’s no LVD but could develop as his replacement if he continues to make gains.
Yeah, we cant liam walk… let todd and his blitz first defense go. promote liam to HC and hire someone for DC
Hey Scott, great video, love the podcast and the Pulse videos! question do you think there are any talks of moving Antoine Winfield Jr to SS and getting a Long rangy FS to pair with him to improve the coverage on the back end? I feel like Winfield can help shore up the middle of the field from the SS position and he's at his best when he's moving all over the field and blitzing which might be more possible as a SS than as the last line of defense in a deep zone. Plus if we get a good coverage FS to pair with AWJ that con only further help the CB's as well and giving the pass rush that extra half or full second to get to the QB?
James Yarcho pointed out how poor the scheme is when it comes to pass defense. Only one year, 2022 was the pass defense in the top 10. He said they were in the bottom third and even lower all of the other years. What can be done there? Different players may not help if the poor pass coverage is scheme related. Can you guys look into that?
Sirvocea Dennis cannot be counted on at LB. Seems injured quite often.
