New Jersey Devils Need To Hit The PANIC Button

I remained optimistic and hopeful for as long as I could. I really did.

It is officially time for the New Jersey Devils to hit the PANIC button.

We witnessed back to back losses this past weekend at The Rock where the team only managed to score 1 goal in each of the games.

2-6-3 in the last 11 games. 7 out of 22 possible points. BRUTAL.

These are dark times for the NJ Devils.

I give my honest thoughts during these trying times.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

  1. When your owners are private equity investors with zero to little knowledge or interest in hockey, and your team is just one of their many acquisitions, you're in trouble. They've handed Fitz the keys to do as he pleases and he'll ride this out as long as he can to keep his job, and let the axe fall on those beneath him. The owners are concerned with revenues first and foremost, team record is a distant afterthought. They're also enamored with the Hughes bros and no discipline will come to either of them amid sloppy play ever.

  2. I live in cornwall Ontario Canada 1 hr from ottawa i can't stand losing to the senators I watched that gm in utter disgust theve been horrible since Christmas 🤷

  3. Seems like this team shows up when they know they need to. They’ve beaten some of the leagues best, but when it’s time to play the Ducks, Sharks, Flyers, Sens and others of the sort they take the night off. If they make it to the playoffs and know there’s something to play for I think they could surprise a lot of people, but if they keep playing the way they are there’s not going to be a post season to worry about. I also think the buffer in points they had due to all the extra games played gave them a false sense of security. “Don’t worry about this loss, we’re still leading the division by six points”. But as we pi$$ed away points and other teams won games in hand reality set in and the boys are now in for a dog fight the rest of the season. The games against Philly and Ottawa should have been the start of a major win streak given three against Flyers, Sens, Habs and Sabres all coming up. I now fear what things will look like when this stretch against struggling teams is over.

  4. It's not looking good now, and I agree they need to do something. But not something huge. They built a pretty good cushion – still 9 games over .500 even with this crappy run. That's not an accident. I'm concerned, but not panicking.

  5. Let's hope this past weekend was the equivalent of the 2022-23 "Fire Lindy" moment and the boys start clicking come Wednesday. If they become sellers at the trade deadline, I'm throwing in the towel for the season and shifting more of my attention to the upcoming baseball season. Who would have thought back in the first 3 months of the season that we'd be activating the panic button now.

  6. What's frustrating is that this team has shown that they can win with the current roster. The virus can explain those two 🐶💩 games but January has show that they lack the grit to make it through playoffs.

  7. Ace, the grit has left this team. A trade needs to be made, preferably for a top six. If no trade is made then guys need to be benched. Poor effort and no heart. What i would give to have a guy like Scott Stevens on this current team right now.

  8. I follow the Canucks too and can promise you that Pettersson would be dead cap weight if it even was possible to put him on the roster in the first place. JT Miller is more valuable player than Pettersson.

I think a Cotter – JT – Noesen line would be a throwback to the 90s and could be the grittiest line in the NHL today. He'd have to move his NMC, but trading Dougie for JT would not only open up cap space, but he could easily be replaced by Nemec or Casey. Don't think Dougie would be willing to do that, though.

  9. Jack and Luke have been causing SO many turnovers, and the defense when from 7 games with 20 or less shots to right after the break leaving that in the dust. Defense has been bad and after the break it is like they have not gone off of party mode

  10. We're currently at a middle ground where I can respect those who are remaining positive till the end, but I can also accept some of the dooming and panic as valid. And I fucking hate that it's at this point.

  11. About 3 days ago, Fitz spoke with Lebrun about kicking the tires on some players. It sounds like he’s ready to do his wait it out until the perfect thing comes around BS all over again, and wait until the trade deadline if necessary. Fire Fitz. Same crap different season. People keep defending him. He ain’t “cooking,” he’s about to burn down the kitchen. Two, TWO!!!!! number one draft picks, and we can’t score enough to win games?!?! These kids need to toughen up, and get some desire to win. This is Pathetic.

  12. It's obvious that teams are playing the trap against us now. Keefe better figure out a way to combat that or we could be struggling the rest of the season.

  13. So, I am asking again the question I asked a few weeks ago. Who is to blame? Players, fans, Keefe, Fitzgerald, owners, SST, Woodson? Or maybe Tunguska meteorite?

  14. Its really crazy when i thought about this team making a move it was for a playoff run now it feels like we need to add someone just to mKe the playoffs..

  15. Were gonna find out if them team is willing to get to the hard areas to dump pucks and play with that f u in there game.. we have a goalie amd a defense theres no more excuses if this team misses playoffs gonna have to make a franchise altering move in the offseason

  16. Im not going to panic, but Keefe and Devils management better be on the phone or talking about bringing some players up from the AHL to send a message, no one is safe. This team has shown it can hang with the big boys of the league, as long as they are buying in. Lately, they haven’t been buying in. On top of that, Dillon said it himself, they are too predictable and shit at forechecking. Start scratching the big names, send a message or start trading. It’s old as f watching them try to gain the offensive zone only to be stopped at the blue line or beat on the boards. Pushed to the perimeter and forced to take shit shots that Chico can still make saves on. Please don’t embarrass themselves on Wednesday. What a tragedy it would be for all the great players and coaches from the past have to sit in the Rock for 3 hours watching garbage during a night to celebrate greatness. All the player legends, Larry and Jacques should walk into the locker room wearing their rings and just stand there, eye the team and start laughing. Maybe fist bump Markstrom. Turn around and walk out. Maybe Robinson can kick a trash can. Obviously that won’t happen. I wish it would though. Someone needs to drop a bomb on this “give up attitude” instead of finding “positives” in a train wreck. Sometimes people have to be called out and embarrassed in order for them to change their ways. Kill their egos or lack of caring and if that doesn’t work, you say your goodbyes.
It’s been a rough few weeks, hopefully this isn’t the true identity of this year’s team.

  17. Way off topic, but I was just thinking about hockey.
Ever notice watching video from the 50’s-70’s the players look like they are pushing AARP status and look like they have had face transplants, 80’s-2000’s they were younger looking, but battle worn and after the lock out till now they are GQ models with maybe a tooth missing to validate their toughness on instagram.

  18. The team had some sort of relapse into, something bad for them they had given up before xmas break. I am kidding, I hope.

Not a real claim, probably all upstanding gentlemen, its just truly how it looks sometimes. Just so confusing.

  19. I think there was a bad reset over Christmas. I feel that everyone on the team should be left alone. This will work itself out. There is no use losing the locker room over making folk sit in the press box, or making some trade that may be regrettable.

  20. Man I like your takes!

This is how a true fan expresses solemn doubt and criticism for the team they actually support while in pain. Actual doomers I swear indulge in losses, and thats the difference.

Always happy to see a new one from ya! hoping against hope that this is one massive speed bump. LFGD!

  21. Tyler Johnson is a guy with playoff expercience that could help us. If we get a jt miller as well i think this could be a shakeup that could be very beneficial for us.. i was at the seattle win. Going to game in Minnesota later this year and i hope thats 2 top teams playing at that time

  22. i kinda had this feeling a along time ago the offense is going start slacking. alot of your lives i always complained about how this team cannot finish break aways if they had a gun to there head. alot of players on this team just doesnt have the talent to burry the puck

  23. In offseason if a guy like Jordan kyrou or Frank Vatrano were ever available would be a great add. Considering we were in on stamkos marshessault at 1 point. Maybe im a dreamer. But we need another bigtime playmaker

  24. fitz and keefe just need to make a statement. if your not gonna hit your not playing the next game. if your not gonna crash the net, your not playing the next game. or your moving to the bottom line. something needs to be done. there is no punishments for playing like shit. unfortuantly i just feel like our core is haunted by lindy ruff and they dont play hard. like you said lindy ruff is instagram hockey. these physical plays needs to be forced and play hard. if you dont want to do that then you get benched or can play with less time. and ontop of that you still dont want to play hard or hit or do the means of winning. then at this point we should just get rid of them. we dont need players on this team that dont want to win

  25. I definitely still believe in and love my Devils team a lot, bud. Of course the team has been slumping lately. And of course you're definitely correct. We together will hit the panic button and call for help. Our Devils team has been losing a lot. Much like the Kamala Harris Hilary Clinton Dem team being crushed by the Trump MAGA party. And we definitely must never fall for it at all. I definitely would have a conversation with coach Sheldon Keefe about our losing efforts. If Keefe keeps causing our Devils club to lose more, he's done. We'll wait and see. But let's hope we win more and more. Especially concentrating on more defense depth. And keep playoff hopes alive. It's always my great honor joining you as a great buddy. And best of all, let's go Devils!

  26. Ill support this club every day and thsts why its painful to see us playing like we have in games in la anaheim and this past weekend at home. No scoring with this talent has to set off alarm bells chane up lines and shakeup roster.. if we inject those things into our team i feel results will follow as someone who travels to multiple games across country @st louis @carolina @seattle and more there are tons of devils fans out there and this team needs to make us proud..
