Do Texas Rangers need to sign Kirby Yates, David Robertson or will internal closer options be fine?

The Texas Rangers made big moves to improve their bullpen this winter signing Chris Martin, Hoby Milner, Jacob Webb, and Shawn Armstrong along with trading for Robert Garcia.

Last year Kirby Yates and David Robertson dominated in the back of Texas’ bullpen, but will the Rangers be willing to go into the luxury tax to bring one of them back?

  1. My bet is CY is still waiting the market to cool down and the asking price to go down, but the big spender is still spending to keeping the price up, man, do something! At this point either bringing back Robertson or signing Jansen or whoever would still give some assurance😮

  2. The Rangers only have about 6 million left under the salary cap, which they want to stay under in order to reset the progressive tax. So it was never going to happen. It’s also nice to have a bit of a buffer for the trade deadline. Or maybe even they get to the deadline and have a great team, right at the top of the race and Ray Davis says screw it, and they go over the cap in a trade to get a closer to chase another ring. Or they could potentially trade Leody or even John Gray to free up some cap space.
