Sources: Twins-Padres trade talks have focused on C Christian Vázquez

  1. If we’re sending cease to the twins we better get more than a 34 year old catcher with 1 year left on the deal.

  2. Lmao so who the fuck is gonna be in the rotation? Or are we just gonna roll out two starters and punt a prime window year away?

  3. AJ wanted to sign him back before he signed him the the twins, I was wondering if there was a path to acquire him if they paid down his deal significantly.

I’d rather just get Elias Diaz on a league minimum deal tbh. Wonder if he’s holding out for more. Not sure there are many catching spots open. Same goes for Yazmani Grandal. Maybe they wait them out until they take a vet min deal and the chance to start.

  4. He’s getting paid $10M this year. I was gonna go on a whole spiel of “I could see this happening, try and rely on the same strategy of journeyman catchers to give us good ABs that’s worked in the last couple of seasons,” but he’s the 5th-highest paid catcher in the league this season, and has put up sub-70 wRC+ seasons in back-to-back years. He’s a great defensive catcher, sure, but we’d be giving up 4th in Cy Young voting and arguably our best starter last season for a horrid hitting catcher, and only saving less than $4M in the process. At that point, just sign Grandal or Diaz and figure it out from there.

  5. Hope this is a joke, his contract is $10M for 2025 and has a lifetime ops of .673. And AJ couldn’t sign FREE AGENT Higgy for a measly 2y $13.5M contract?!? WTF!!! Now he must give up something to get a Vazquez!?!

  6. There would have to be a hell of a lot more than a catcher with similar stats to campy on a deal like that.

  7. Don’t be surprised when we ultimately do trade Cease for something like this. You can thank our cheap owners

  8. Maybe if they throw in one of their Top 20 OF prospects Cease would be on the table for this trade, but I doubt they’d go for it for 1 year of Cease, especially since one of them is a Top 5 prospect in baseball.

Also Vazquez is due $10M this season for a catcher that is worth less than 1 WAR. Rolling the dice on Campy, Sullivan and Maldonado is a better gamble since their contracts r worth like a combine $3M.

  9. I mean we do need a catcher I’m not sure Campy cuts it, but trading a starter seems a bit wild. What would our rotation be if we lost Cease?

  10. The Twins have a deep farm system, with 6 I believe in the top 100. My assumption is that if we are trading Cease to them, it would be for one of their top prospects, and Vaźquez would be thrown in to offset salary. If those prospects are either Emmanuel Rodriguez or Luke Keaschall, both are MLB ready, you’d be getting two starting position players for a starting pitcher who pitches every 5th day (albeit a great one).

If that’s the case, you have to consider it.
