My dad passed away in 07 and had a brick with his name and all of his kids initials on it outside of home plate in the 1929 section of bricks. Always went to it before games. Crazy they would do this with no warning.

The sidewalks around the stadium didn’t seem that bad to me. Why couldn’t they do some minor repairs then replace the bricks?
I noticed the sidewalks were getting pretty rough outside the stadium last season, and it was probably determined it was becoming a safety hazard. But yeah you would think they would’ve given people a heads up so they could get one final picture of the brick or whatever.
A good way to “ensure the essence of the program is captured moving forward” would be to have new bricks created with those same messages. I am not sure how that wasn’t just the plan all along?
Sounds like typical bureaucracy. Facilities said this has to happen for safety and appearance, none of them were around in 2001, contracts hired a contractor to do the work, and nobody told PR to say something or come up with a plan until the bricks were about to get hauled off in a trailer to the dumo.
Thank goodness you all caught it and they caught it in time!
Would be nice to at least get a chance to collect “your” brick if they don’t want to continue using them. Ours was with Stargell.
Taking turns throwing them through Nuttings windows would be a nice way to honor the bricks’ and their fans’ legacy
Probably auctioned off via Pirates charities
Should just give people the option to go and get it but digging thru a pile of bricks is probably a disaster and a liability. No easy answer to this one short of just putting them back in place where they were
The pirates treat their fans like people attending a traveling carnival.
They do the absolute bare minimum to keep people coming
They already got rid of some of the bricks in years prior.
In their defense, contacting each brick owner individually would be a nightmare. This is data which is 25 years old.
That being said, a couple of press releases and a couple of signs around the stadium starting six months before construction isn’t exactly difficult.
But guys, they’re capturing the essence of it though!
Nutting will probably sell them back to the original owners at a 500% markup
Love it and expect nothing less. Total piratical move. This is who this team is.
Cleveland did this last offseason and asked people to come forward for bricks as they def did not keep the data.
I have a feeling they’re gonna put them on display somewhere. What a mess
The first time I went to look for my brick at Heinz Field after they got rid of them. I felt the same. They did put the names on steel plates outside the Champions Club, but thats not as cool as the bricks.
What exactly is the issue? They said the sidewalk is bad, and they’re looking into ways to display the bricks going forward. I don’t see why everyone in this thread is so upset.
I have a brick too. This sucks.
Related – what about the Steeler bricks for Heinz Field? Those are still there, right?
