  1. There are only 2 QBs in this draft that I would be interested in, Donnovan Smith and Will Howard. Most Steelers fans want Howard because he's a Downingtown native. And I get it. I like him because he has that Dan Marino esthetic about him. Donnovan Smith is similar to Randall Cunningham. That's a TL:DR for him. Donnovan is 23, while Will is 24, so time to learn is not short, but there's a need to be expedient. A good QB coach will get something good out of these two.

Draft one of the two 2nd day, 3rd or 4th rd. Sign Justin Fields. Grab a few nice offensive talents to surround Fields and let's get this ball rolling downhill.

  2. Fields has ahown improvement in ball security and intermediate passing. He is a better athlete, but Russ is better with the deep ball. Long term Fields is going to be a better option.

  3. Fields is everything your looking for in draft. The kid can play. If theyre bringing smith back fields 100% get in the room and do the work.

Later in the season we lost because RUSS was doing everything that they said fields downside was. Tuck and run and no ball security.

  4. Bring Justin back at 20 Million. If you look at the games played, Justin averaged 20.66 points per game and went 4 wins and 2 losses. In Russell’s last 6 games, Russell averaged 14.83 points per game, and he went 1 win and 5 losses. If Justin had played in the games against the Jets, Giants, and the Raiders, he probably wins these games. I also believe that Justin’s upside because of his size and mobility, he should be the guy. Smith needs to design an offense that plays to Justin’s strength with option plays, designed runs, and work with him to put touch on the long ball.

  5. The Steelers will not compete for a Super Bowl next year. If we all accept that, the decisions get pretty easy. Russ is a dinosaur. He should be gone. Sign Fields to 2/$25M to keep the QB cost low. Pay for young ascending free agents in areas of need to build the team up around him (and the next QB) and draft the best players available. Aging unproductive veterans who can be released, should be. Larry O, Cole Holcomb, Preston Smith, etc. The worst thing you can do is to operate as though you are close to being a contender when you’re not. Young, fast, aggressive players everywhere should be the plan.

  6. I agree with most of what you said but I do think that Justin is as good a passer. But i saw it with dj moore. And I would not run Justin as much . I would put him on the edge with boots, rpo run options. i would keep the powers to a minimum. but I agree that if he fails (jf2) then like you said then you can get a high draft pick. But i would like to have both back and have jf2 as the qb1. I would build the team with contested catch specialists on the outside and two good to great backs plus jaylen warren. have fields look deep and throw the one on ones as well as the deeper concepts instead of turning them down. we would be ok then. if not, then the next qb would set up to succeed.

  7. Tomlin went from that’s why I’m highly compensated to you know what maybe the league is right Russ is just mediocre and we should’ve found out what we had in fields , you Steelers fan never fail to amaze me how a year behind you always are

  8. Is it possible it was Fields all along? Maybe they wanted to groom him behind a vet but he got the chance to start due to Russ' injury. Maybe they wanted to build his confidence back after the debacle of being drafted by Chicago? I'm a believer.

  9. I said since last spring that the plan was Russ to play most of 2024 and for Fields to take over in 2025. He'll cost less and his athleticism provides more upside. We saw what Russ is and they absolutely should not invest any money in him. Fields wants to be here so sign him to a 2-3 year deal that's front loaded and see what happens.

  10. Let’s stop talking about how we need to run the ball and let’s talk about having a balanced offense. Passing and running. And let’s not be so damn predictable. And it would definitely help with an offensive coordinator whose scheme is old & tired.

  11. Matt -Not easy but not complicated. Sign JF to a 3 yr deal (team option). Hire a stud QB coach ( who helped Josh Allen improve accuracy & decision making?) & get to work. Draft a QB every year-not necessarily in Rnd 1. Surround Fields with weapons-a move TE; an RB that masters the outside zone; get a better O-line coach. Run the ball. RPO. Work on crossers & middle of the field throws (esp on 1st down) and be (if not explosive) a multiple offense that is tough to prepare for.

  12. Bring back Fields and draft a guy every year. Love that thought process Matt. What is the likelihood the Steelers get a proven WR this offseason? Whether it be trade or FA. Specifically would love to hear your thoughts on Godwin. Could his injury drive down his contract value?

  13. The only way Russ comes back as if he is a Joe Flacco (not saying he is him. Just the idea) for the colts. The adult in the room to clean up messes if AR15 is having a bad day. Other than that it’s fields team and we are where we go. He’s gonna be 26 soon. No need in waiting. If Milroe falls take him.

  14. I agree with your approach. Unfortunately, the steelers are not all that smart. They still rely on emotions.
This type of decision-making is not a part of today's professional football.
