Seeing that “99.7” just pisses me off. But that doesn’t matter cuz he’s in now.

  1. I feel like in any committee, you have an asshole. He’s just there to contradict the obvious. You got 400 writers of all people voting, it’s remarkable only one idiot had the gall to pull this shit.

  2. Yeah, we get it. This is like the 100th post whining about it. Not even Babe Ruth was unanimous. Move on with your life ffs.

  3. Here’s what I don’t understand. Is Ichiro the greatest hitter of all time? No. So why are we expecting him to get things the greatest players ever didn’t get? Mariano Rivera was the greatest closer ever. Ichiro, though legendary, isn’t the greatest hitter ever. If Ken Griffey Jr isn’t unanimous then I’m not gonna lose sleep over Ichiro. This story is ridiculous

  4. It doesn’t bother me whatsoever, since the precedent is that there are so many players, better than Ichiro even, with a lower tally.

  5. Calm down. It’s baseball.

All the top 1% all-time guys (excepting 1) also didn’t get in unanimously; he’s in fine company.

  6. Doesn’t matter, and historically it used to be much worse (DiMaggio debuted with like 45% I believe). We all know Ichiro is a HoFer, and now he is. Let people be a little dumb about a place that’s a little dumb.

  7. I don’t know why this upsets people so much. It has only happened once in the history of voting. When it’s all said & done, he’s in & in the near future no one will care what percentage he got.

  8. You have very few problems in life if something as unimportant as this actually bothers you

  9. Just a little nerd, who was never picked for anything or picked the last at the playground and now he feels, he has a little bit of power. Geek.

  10. This is getting ridiculous. Only 1 player was ever unanimous. You all sound like that kid in high school who would go talk to the teacher because they only got 99% on a test.

  11. I watched him play in his last Seattle year. It was such a privilege. I loved how he played

  12. I’m sure Mr. Suzuki is not losing sleep over it, and is just happy and grateful he got the opportunity to play and leave a legacy behind.

  13. Ppl give way too much of a shit that one writer didn’t vote for Ichiro. They should have, but they didn’t. Virtually no one else in the hall was 100% either, let’s just fucking move past it already

  14. I don’t get why people keep bringing this up. Who cares he got 99.7? Ken Griffey Jr got 99.3, plenty of players better than Ichiro didn’t get 100%

  15. If I asked you to rank Boggs, Seaver, Cy Young, Clemente, Gwynn, Yount, and Mantle by HOF vote percentage, you couldn’t do it. No one could do it. A week after the results are announced, no on gives a shit. Yeah, Ichiro should’ve been unanimous, but he got in and that’s all that matters

  16. I was gonna make a dumb joke along the lines of “wonder what cap he’ll have on his plaque?” While obviously Seattle, as a Yanks fan, I sorta forgot he was with the team for 2.5 years. Felt like a blip. Then, 2 full years in Miami. I wish he coulda been a forever Mariner. At least he finished his career there.

  17. I think it’s worth discussing because it’s indicative of a bigger problem; sports media personalities taking their job way too seriously.

  18. Who honestly cares? This is like the only saying you know what difference is between the person who graduates 1st in medic school and the person who graduates last? Nothing they’re both still doctors.

At the end of the day Ichiro is still one of the all-time greats on both sides of the Pacific and is the only player to be voted into both the BBHOF and the NPB HOF in their first year of eligibility for both. I don’t think he is losing sleep over fall 1 vote shy of 100%.

  19. Stop it.

    Get some help.

Just be stoked on him getting in and his accomplishments.
