Yeah all we did was trade for a top of the rotation arm, added a quality starting pitcher, and a flame throwing bullpen arm but yeah we’re the Marlins of the American League s/
I’m fine with the roster as presently constructed. My hope for 2025 is a playoff appearance. My hope for the latter half of the decade is a multi-year contention window.
I think the team they have right now is capable of claiming an AL Wild Card spot and competing for the division. And if the incoming wave of prospects lives up to their potential, they’ll be an even better team for the next few seasons. Long-term starting pitching will be an issue to address, but there aren’t any arms available right now that would begin to do that.
I don’t want Arenado. I’d be fine with Bregman on a short term deal. But those feel like moves that fans want simply because they are names, and not necessarily because they’re great fits for this roster.
I will amend this to “Do something SMART.” The last thing we need is another bad signing like Trevor Story’s contract.
I want another RP and really wish they had gotten two more, but personally I do not want them to do Bergman or Arenado just for the purpose of doing something.
What do you think about bringing kike back for right handed depth? Or JD on a 1 year deal to platoon DH. Just to have JD there to work with Casas, Anthony, Rafaella, Mayer, Duran, Abreu, etc. would be worth the contract. I remember he used to study in the batting cage and helped Ortiz and others make minor adjustments for big improvements.
