Ryan Garcia, “Waiting for Marcus Stroman’s money to come off the books through trade is irresponsible, directly conflicts with their desire to contend, and is about as anti-Yankee as it gets.”

Seems on brand to me. Don’t be fooled by the occasonal spending, this franchise is as unnecessarily cheap as they can be. Despite no signs of life DJ will be in the opening day roster. FO has no shame

New around here?
The Yanks management know we’re cooked in the World Series either way.
Stuff like this is why the Dodgers won the World Series.
They’re the Yankees of old, and the Yankees of new are only willing to spend so much.
Some of you hyperventilate over nothing. There’s literally no more difference making moves to make so what difference does it make if they wait until they move Stroman or not.
If Bobby Whitt Jr was a free agent and the Yankees wanted to wait until they moved Stroman, then hell yeah get angry. But who is the best player we can realistically sign or trade for at this point? It’s not worth getting annoyed over.
No it isn’t, no it doesn’t, no it’s not. Can we stop with this bullshit already?
I completely agree with Ryan. You’re already over the tax. Cutting payroll after going to a WS is nasty fucking work. Sign Kim and sign Chafin or Hill and let’s close the holes on our team already. This is getting ridiculous.
If the infield market develops faster than they can trade Stroman, they need to just bear down and get an infielder (through trade or signing) and worry about moving stroman after.
I get what he’s saying but it’s not like there are any difference makers on the market left.
We tried to get one. He’s a Met now. The rest are kind of eh
Is that what they’re waiting for? Regardless of whether or not Stroman is on the books, they’re not gonna offer a mega deal to Bregman and they shouldn’t. Who else is out there? Arenado isn’t a target. They’re not gonna get rid of Stroman to sign Jack Flaherty, who they apparently could’ve already had but they didn’t like something with his health.
There are plenty of relievers on the market but they arguably got the best available in Devin Williams. If they want to bring back Tim Hill, he’s not gonna cost a ton.
I can’t envision any sort of scenario where this is what’s holding them back, but I have no insider knowledge. Admittedly.
This guy always has good takes
The Yankees don’t desperately need an infielder to fill their 2B slot, they have 6 options:
* Cabrera
* Peraza
* Vivas
* Arias
* Lombard Jr.
* DJLM (this guy is gonna get $30M, just for that he’s an option)
Are any of them 5 WAR players? No. Are there any 5 WAR or even 3 WAR players out there to be had? No. There’s no magic wand to wave here. The remaining moves are to trade Stroman and Leiter Jr. and eat a chunk of Stro’s contract. Then sign Tim Hill and another lefty reliever and we’re done. We’re still favored to win the division and probably the ALCS. At the 2025 trade deadline we *might* get a shot at Vlad Jr. or Kyle Tucker and that’s the time to make a big move.
Edit: If you’re downvoting it’s because you don’t want to deal with reality.
Poor Hal and his money
We should act as if he’s already off the books. Someone else will lose a starter in spring training and get desperate.
There’s nothing out there I’d trade Stroman for. We know 1 or more of our starters are gonna go down with an injury. Keep Stroman for depth. He’s gotta be the best depth piece or #6 starter in baseball lol
All this inaction is smart now, it won’t be when DJL breaks down and we could have had Bregman whose better than anything we have at the hot corner without question. It’s a loser franchise move, we always make one big move to say we did something (Fried) and then stop trying to improve for whatever reason. LA didn’t need to make very many moves and yet they’re still active. I’m not saying Hal’s cheap but he’s also not gonna do whatever it takes to win either.
Can’t we just get guys to defer some fucking money? If those pricks can do it so can we
Ryan is 100% right fuck this team
Somehow I get downvoted when I say this was a terrible contract
Agreed. Someone will need a starter cone spring training, go get your infield locked in now.
Crazy how no one here wants to admit that bregman is a perfect fit
Fuck the way this organization is ran by the front office and ownership. Fucking pathetic
Yeah why are we trying to cut payroll? Why wouldn’t we just sign whoever and keep him for fucking depth. We have a bunch of holes still and it’s dumb that money is holding up the Yankees again. I do understand his contract isn’t the best but it shouldn’t stop from signing others and if you don’t trade him then oh well there’s your depth for when the inevitable pitching injury happens
Gonna be awkward if they start the season with Stroman on the roster.
I hope he starts this year
The fact that people are talking about monetary concerns for the Yankees is the entire reason they haven’t won in 15 years.
Hal gives cashman a budget. Cash uses it unwisely. Hal cries poor.
Your franchise makes too much money to cry poor. Stop worrying about your investors and your profit margin and put a team on the field that can win a WS.
Hal, if George were alive to see you do this, he’d slap the hell out of you.
Then you’d go and tell your mom and she’d hug you and give you cookies. (Ahhhh, Now I see why he likes Boone so much.)
I cant stand how this team is run. They want to offload stroman only to then sign ppl for the payroll stroman would have costed. Just sign the players before another team does and try to offload stroman while doing that. yea, these players might still be available but why risk waiting? Especially because this will probably drag out until pitchers report and injurjes start
We lose in WS and cry about offloading money. LA wins and adds to their payroll
