Understand this is two days after the game but I just came across this stat so thought I’d say this . Always thought the wider narrative that Jokic always cooks Gobert funny cos I don’t think a single centre guards him better than Gobert . I think it was further pushed after game 5 last year when Jokic was hitting just unbelievable circus shots on Rudy . The whole KAT being a very big reason on stopping Jokic, which was more prevalent amongst wolves fans too, was what was the funniest to me because he was only able to guard Jokic due to Rudy’s presence on the help that series.

  1. Yet according to NBA discourse: Gobert is basically Ryan Hollins because he can’t push Jokic around 1:1 in the post defensively.

  2. It’s funny how people say Rudy sucks when they see him get scored on by Jokic in the paint or by Doncic on the perimeter. As if any player can easily contain either of those players 1 on 1.

  3. I don’t see how individual player head-to-head W/L records can count for much in the NBA. There’s a whole team matchup thing going on with Denver that is giving them fits against the Wolves. Our defense matches up well with their offense all around, unless Aaron Gordon goes off like he did in the playoffs. Wolves’ depth means their bench unit doesn’t let the Nuggets starters take extended breaks either.

  4. The narrative always seems to focus on the highlights, but the full picture is much more complex.

  5. Maybe this is common knowledge and also maybe im a Bona fide idiot, but I feel like the makeup of this team is to specifically target and matchup vs other teams we will meet in the playoffs. Some teams will roll us while other top tier teams we matchup well against. We just need to make it to the playoffs and then we can rumble. Idk. When you look on paper, Randle gives us the bully ball player we wanted Towns to be. Towns often would try and do that and get those damn offensive fouls every game or dribble the ball off his foot. Randle is a more controlled bully ball player, with Gobert down low and then McDaniels coming in for help using his length.

Lets just get to the playoffs and see what happens..

  6. Normally not the best perimeter defender… I appreciated the hell out of his top of key swipe for a dunk this Saturday.

  7. These guys have been in the same division their entire careers and probably know so much about each other. Their matchups are fun if you’re into detail

  8. Problem with Rudy is most people just don’t understand what he brings to a team. Jokic cooks everyone one on one, Rudy isn’t a bad post defender but like everyone he’s going to have problems with Jokic. KAT was great against him but he also had Rudy backing him up/ would pick up some fouls because he had to be very physical to play that type of post defense. Rudy give you elite offball defense/rim protection to help when he’s not on him and a body to throw at him.

  9. Gobert is a very conservative one-on-one defender at this point; give ground, don’t foul, don’t commit, contest from the floor, etc. Looks bad at times, sometimes guys just hit all those spinning hooks and middies, but hard to say it isn’t more effective overall.
