[MLBTR] The Padres have an agreement in place with catcher Elias Díaz, reports Daniel Álvarez-Montes of El Extrabase. The MAS+ Agency client gets a one-year, $3.5MM deal with a mutual option for 2026, though it’s still pending a physical.

  1. Seidler brothers furiously driving through downtown looking for Preller, ready to execute him for spending money

  2. Thank god we won’t be rolling with Sullivan or Maldonado as the only alternatives to Campy. I’m not expecting Diaz to have a Gary Sanchez/Higashioka type resurgence but he should easily be better than our other options atm.

  3. I know we’re in a budget crunch, so if this is the only signing we make, so be it. We absolutely needed a veteran catcher who could put the bat on the ball. We can fill gaps on our roster with young talent, but catching is the one place where we had to get an experienced player under the age of 36 to hold it down for a year or two.

Also, I wonder if this signing means we’re close to dealing Cease or Arráez.
