Why I’m Excited About Max Plante (and you should be too)

  1. Thanks for the write up! Very excited for the kid. Funny timing with last nights events, but he’s always reminded me of Mark Stone a bit. Some later career Copp as well, better hands though

  2. Great write-up and totally agree with your assessment of Plante. I watched him live at the World Junior Summer Showcase vs Canada (that featured a ton of first round & top ten picks on both sides). Plante still stood out as a top level player in that mix. Hockey sense, passing, skating, compete and positioning were all impressive.

I do wonder if he could have been seen as a first round talent if not pushed down the NTDP lineup by the great players in front of him. Similar to Larkin being stuck at 2c behind Austin Matthews during his time there.

I think a challenge for Plante will be putting on the muscle to win a lot of board battles at the pro level (think the difference in Raymond’s strength in recent years).

I’m definitely excited to see where his development goes and agree this is the kind of swing on upside I’d love to see in a 2nd round pick.

  3. I almost forget about plante when talking or thinking of our pool

Shows how deep our forward pool is

    Hell ya

  4. It feels like every prospect, from Emmett Finney to Dimitri Buchelnikov, is exceeding expectations

  5. Hes scoring at a 1.27 P/GP pace. Larkin scored at a 1.34 P/GP pace his only NCAA year, and obviously made the Wings the next year and was a Calder candidate. Seems to play responsibly, and has NHL size (even though he looks like Rasmus Dahlin’s 13 year old brother). Damn, he could be a sleeper to make the team next year.

  6. I watch UMD play a ton and they have had some brutal games this year. Plante has been noticeable every game and this is a solid breakdown of how it has gone for him. He looks good and hopefully the growth continues.

  7. His reel in the article there is full of all kinds of different highlight plays. Seems like a really well-rounded hockey player!
