[Jim Bowden via BleacherNation.com] There is no question who the most aggressive teams right now for Alonso and Bregman are and it’s the Blue Jays and Cubs which could dampen the two from returning to their former teams.

  1. We have Busch, no thanks on Pete unless we give up practically nothing, then fine give Alonso a shot at 1st.

But Bregman at 3rd would be an infinity stone away from a deep playoff run.

  2. They do just enough to get in the rumor tweets to make it look like our owner isn’t a cheapskate.

  3. I mean maybe, but word is Bregman has a six year offer. Now unless we move Nico for pitching and move Shaw to 2B, not sure how that’d work. Or Polar Bear, unless theyve somehow soured on Busch?

  4. We still got $34m in cap space and a pretty full roster, it really would be best used mostly all on one impact player

  5. This is clearly agents using the Cubs as leverage. Boras never learns. Bregman has 150 million guaranteed from the Astros. The Cubs are not paying that.

  6. I genuinely don’t believe this. Alonso makes no sense in any capacity for this team.

And Bregman *only* makes sense if it’s a 1 year opt out type thing, which doesn’t seem likely at this point.

  7. The potential offensive production added from acquiring Bregman, I believe would be massive for rounding out this lineup. He had a bit of a down year last year, some of which was because of a slow start, but hes still hit 30+ homeruns in five seasons of his career. And he was damn close last year too.

We were ranked 21st in HR’s last season. Tucker was on pace for 56 prior to injury… him and Bregman together I believe will put us in the top 10 in HR’s this season

  8. I mean, id rather have bregman Swanson shaw Busch as an infield, as opposed to shaw Swanson horner Busch. Add in a quality starter nico+ could get back and I’d be even happier. Id hate to see Nico leave but it is what it is. It’s the rickets money not mine
