[Caswell] Jackson Merrill on Padres quiet off-season: “I kind of like it being quiet though…Whatever team we have out there on that field, we’re going to be able to dominate and compete with any team.”

  1. This guy could be the Padres’ Mike Trout (hopefully minus the injuries). Love that attitude.

  2. Merrill is a guy I want to see the Padres lock up for life. Obviously, a bit early to make that kind of commitment after 1 season. I know that. Still, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a player be so excited to play specifically for the Padres. This guy was meant to be a career Padre.

  3. That’s what I’m talking about. Players aren’t sitting around waiting for reinforcements, feeling sorry for themselves. This team still has a great core that can compete with any other team out there.

  4. Love Merrill, but does anybody remember Dave Roberts? 1st round pick put up a 3.3 War at age 22 in ‘73. And then faded quickly. I want to see what Merrill does as a 2nd year player before building a statue.
