[Olney] The Tigers seem destined to get at least one more veteran for their roster. They’ve talked to Alex Bregman, who could be a primary choice, and if that doesn’t work out, they could turn to Jack Flaherty, a pitcher they value.

Teams say that Flaherty's camp has moved from long-term ask at the outset of the offseason (5 years?) to something short term.

Love how we are carrying that playoff momentum straight through. Expected nothing less.
I’d take Jack back though.
I’d really like another bat over a SP even if it’s not Bregman, but if it’s Flaherty or nothing I’ll take Jack.
Wonder if they’re just valuing the “veteran” presence moreso than pitching/hitting needs
Can never have enough good starting pitching, if the teams decides it’s going all in on run prevention I’m with it
why not sign both and go win the division. it’s not like we’re spending money on anyone else but Javy’s dead body.
stop being cheap and grab both
1 with a player option for another would be a good bet for flaherty to settle on.

Both. Do it.
Bregman please. Need more offense badly.
Go all in a get both?
If Bregman’s looking at a 1-3 yr contract then the Tigers are out of it. “CHRIIS ILLITCH CHEAP” doesn’t play into it. No hitter with Bregman’s spray chart & record in Detroit is signing a pillow deal with half his games at Comerica
If Flaherty is willing to come back and sign for 3 years, the Tigers GOT to make that deal and get him, then shop Torkelson for an upgrade at 3rd base if you don’t also sign Bregman.
A long term contract for Bregman is going to be great for about 2-3 years, and the back half of that is going to be an untradable albatross, all while blocking Jace Jung.
Offense wins games, PITCHING WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. A rotation of Skubal, Olson, Flaherty, Jobe, and Mize / Manning / Maeda etc., along with the bullpen is a big plus to start the season.
Sign Flaherty!
Hope they go after Flaherty for depth. Not gonna happen, but I would only go for Bregman if it’s 3-4 years max
Cheap owner won’t do either. We all know it.
While Bregman would be nice to have, I’m tired of him using us as leverage. Put one last take it or leave it deal on the table (if they really want him at all) and be done with it.
Why not try to work something out with both?
How can it be Bregman or Jack? Two different positions and needs. Not like one fills the same void
I like the idea being floated around about offering Bregman the contract he wants (5-6 years, around $180m) with yearly opt outs. That way if he has a great season us fans can applaud when he leaves for a higher profile franchise, and an in house option might be more ready for the hot corner.
On the down side of that coin flip, he could just stumble out of the gate and never live up to expectations. The potential for bust status could be part of the reason the Tigers are one of the few teams still in the hunt for his services, when many teams have payroll flexibiliy and a need for a solid right handed infielder.
One more veteran, hmmmm…. Any other FA 38 Year olds contemplating retirement available? Mark Canha is, also, last I checked. Veteran could mean anything, lol.
They aren’t serious about winning without getting both
por que no los dos?
Jesus how many times do I have to read the exact same “report”

Both. And Santander. And Pete Alonso.
