Harris On Rebrand Possibility: Commanders Name Means Something

I’m watching the press conference now. He didn’t really answer either with a definitive yes or no, but sounds like name is staying and uniforms/branding will change.
EDIT: as u/ckeph said, he later confirmed name is staying.
It means something in the sense it can be defined in the dictionary
From a sentimental standpoint, it means less than nothing
Just like I suspected, the more they win with the new team, the more they will keep the name.
It means I’m never buying merch and will always call them the Commies. Your move.
It means something to Dan and Tanya sure
As expected. Way too many people bought jerseys this year, and we literally just made the Championship
If I’m being 100% honest, I couldn’t care less about the name. Continuing to win games and focusing on our new stadium is way more important to me.
If we changed the logo, but started losing games, the hype for the rebrand would die so fast. Just continue to focus on winning games
Update: Asked if it’s safe to say the Commanders name is sticking around: “yeah… it’s now being embraced by our team by our culture by our coaching staff. We’re going with that.”

Literally zero surprise here after that season. The name is now linked to a movement and a winning culture. They’d be crazy to change it again right now. Fix the uniforms and I’ll be happy
For people saying that it will grow on us. Among the ~120 big 4 teams. Only 5 have a team name where the first syllable isn’t what is stressed.
The 49ers, canucks, canadiens, athletics and us.
It’s inherently awkward to have a team name that doesn’t stress the first syllable.
So either they change it or they embrace the shortening to the “commies” or “Manders” (like the 49ers embrace 9ers and the athletics embrace A’s).
Just keep winning, that’s all I care about. A uniform tweak would be nice too.

As long as they win, it doesn’t matter. Folks need to let it go. They’re never going back to the Skins. IIRC, Jayden Daniels had the hottest selling jersey this year. Some slight upgrades and that return on Harris’ investment will continue to skyrocket.

I have it on my list to make some off-season announcements/changes to the sub, including asking for more mods (#1 need), and asking about some proposed rules changes. But I guess this sort of forces one of the issues … no more name change threads. Because that horse is dead.

Unpopular opinion: been a fan since 1986. I think the new name is fine. The old name was… Kinda weird and outdated. Although, I don’t like the way people treat the old name like it’s a slur now. The Commanders didn’t win a Super Bowl in 1992 — the Redskins did.
If it’s confirmed confirmed, this is very unfortunate but to make the most of it we need to embrace and own the nickname we’ll be using for the next 50 years.
– All offensive plays will be referred to as “means of production”
– Start bringing huge hammer and sickle flag to the games.
– Refer to all players and fans as comrade
– Points are now a collective scoring event. We don’t count or discuss individual touchdowns over the season
– The defense will be referred to as the iron curtain

The problem was always that there was never a unifying, obvious solution. If there was, they would have picked that in the first place. You’re never going to make everyone happy when you do this and you’re just as likely to flub it and make things even worse. The whole idea involved unnecessary resource investment and extreme risk with likely no financial payoff.
Just make simple tweaks to the colors and even the logo if you want.
It’s terrible. This came around the time when the conservatives were mad at their statues being taken down. So they took away aunt jamima and the Indian girl. Now this. The commanders are the dudes who came to America and killed off the Redskins.

I get that we had an amazing season, but I still found myself hesitant to even say commanders when talking about it. I think it’s a stupid soulless name and unfit to slap on one of the most prestigious historical teams in the nfl. Dan Snyder ruined the reputation of this team enough to accept this debacle and I think it’s sad.
I’m not crazy about the name but a name is never gonna keep me from rooting for this team.
Yeah, it means Dan Snyder’s dogshit.

Name change was always unlikely. The fans rallied around a winner this year and merchandise sales were through the roof.
We’re gonna get rebranded uniforms for sure though. Most likely something closer to our historical uniforms with maybe some modernization.
We can’t keep changing names. Establish identity and move forward. Need a new logo and uniforms though
