Jim Edmonds ‘scorched earth’ interview this morning

  1. Good for Balllgame. With the way the organization has been performing lately, sadly, none of this is surprising.

  2. Who wants to transcribe the highlights? Can’t stand to listen to the man talk.

  3. Even if you don’t believe everything he said, where there’s smoke there’s fire. I found it fascinating and this will only further fan frustration.

  4. Not at all upset he won’t be doing games anymore but I’m still kind of excited to listen to this

  5. My all-time favorite Cardinal as a player but man I can’t stand listening to him talk about anything.

  6. This is so embarrassing. He said his boss called and he didn’t answer. Called him back the next day saying he might not be back and his boss let him know he wouldn’t be back next year and he was so relieved! How convenient!

  7. Scorched earth I guess? Old man yelling at cloud more like it. Sounds like he’s complaining about not getting his ass kissed enough. Lots of “it’s different post covid” talk and really only pointing to “the culture”. It really just sounds like he’s projecting his jacked up personal life.

  8. Ballgame can go pound salt. He was an awful analyst, has no sense of humor at all and is dumb as a bag of hair. Good riddance, I say.

  9. Thanks for linking. Very good to hear the same concerns fans have with the organization coming from #15

  10. There are two sides to every story. Edmonds is kind of an asshole and a notorious diva. I could see him being overbearing and overstepping. It’s entirely possible players/coaches didn’t want him popping in and out of the clubhouse and the brass took the blame.

  11. A lot of this is him having a midlife crisis. He’s just tired of working and wants to spend more time with his family.

The team stuff sounds like him not getting along with the younger players.

Oh and Jim is a big family court hater lol

  12. So he got fired and tried to pull an “I quit” and now he is butt hurt because he was a shit commentator? Fuck Jim Edmonds- so glad he won’t be back on broadcasts, he is a huge scumbag in real life. Literally no loss.

  13. Wow. I was hoping he was leaving the booth to be a minor league instructor. Clearly that’s not happening. I don’t know what to make of that interview.

  14. Always thought people on this sub were too hard on him. I mean it’s a slow paced sport with a 162 game schedule and he’s a former star player. Ofc he’s going to spend some of the airtime talking about his career and personal life.

  15. I’ve never been a huge fan of Jimmy Halfshirt as a broadcaster, but a huge fan of him as a player. That extra inning home run in the 04 NLCS is up there with moments burned into my memory.

  16. “I’m not bitter at all” after being bitter for the previous 20 minutes was pure gold

  17. I wonder if all of these things he’s saying about players not wanting Cardinals alumni around is a “him” problem. I could definitely see, based on his broadcast commentary, how he might come across as overbearing. Maybe the players and coaches were telling him to chill a bit without actually telling him

  18. I don’t know why you guys are surprised that he wasn’t fired by the cardinals. They don’t know who to fire people. Look at the time and money they waste in oli marmol and Mozeliak.

  19. Nothing about this was scorched earth. He burned no bridges and didn’t admit who was causing the “organizational issues in the locker room”.

  20. He’s a whiner. He talks way too much. A lot of times during the broadcast he drones on and on. Being a “good” ball player does not equate to a good on air person.

  21. Oh, no what a huge loss. Is he on his fifth wife yet? Most of what he said doesn’t add up, but I’m sure the internet fans will clamor “SEE WE SUCK/SELL THE TEAM” because any reason is a reason for that at this point. Cardinals need to get better at some things going forward. The difference between them and Jimmy Ballgame, is that the Cardinals have actually done some self reflection and see a need for change. Jimmy probably only reflects when admiring himself in a mirror. If you’re tired of people complaining that you’re a shit person- stop being a shit person or stop being public about it. If I was a player, I wouldn’t care to be around him.

  22. Bro if I’m a player and Jim Edmonds tried to give me hitting advice over my hitting coaches I’d probably be annoyed as fuck. Glad to have him off the broadcast. Tired of “That’s a really nice swing there he just didn’t try to do too much” and “I just got a text”

  23. I really appreciate Jim being candid about all of this but I also feel it is fair for us to assume that part of the reason that he isn’t as welcome anymore is because it’s him? He doesn’t have the best name out there anymore in part due to stuff that has come out with his ex-wife and the pettiness in how he handled some things regarding his St. Louis property.

He’s very much coming off as the former fraternity brother that came back 10 years after he graduated expecting everyone to be happy to see him only to find that they are done with how he constantly has hung around thinking that his opinion is needed.

  24. I think the Cards should have offered Edmonds a coaching role at some point (before the broadcasting thing transpired). But I think it’s possible they offered him a broadcasting role because they felt bad about passing up on a coaching opportunity with him.

When Jimmy kept things to baseball, they were fine. But the insistence on talking about who texted him what, or his kid… that’s stuff he should have kept to himself.

It’s not an easy job to balance a lot of things in a broadcast, because there’s so much going on.

I would take all of this as “I wasn’t sure about coming back, but I’m not happy that it wasn’t my decision”.

  25. My take away is that our bitching in this thread was not in vain! Sounds like he cited online complaints as one reason he “chose” not to come back. Good work team! Now let’s get fanboy Oli to quit…full force complaining activated lol
