So his desired contract won’t be available and he gonna end up taking less somewhere or being the next James harden situation but older and without any guarantee of a bounce back ever
Melo did a lot wrong. First, he burned a lot of bridges over the years and then when Melo needed assistance later in his career, none of the people wanted him. Especially since he failed to accept a lesser role as his skills diminished

Jimmy Butler understands perfectly the game that he is playing. People who think Jimmy is foolish aren't considering an important issue. The guy is 35. When his contract is up, he'll be about 37. Most pros retire by that age. Even if Jimmy was on his best behavior, most team wouldn't pay him his value & he would have to survive on veteran minimums like Russell Westbrook. We all know Westbrook deserves more than he gets based on his production, but no team will pay him equal value. Basically, once you take the vet minimum you lowball yourself for good. Jimmy is seeking an extension to avoid the Westbrook route. So, when his decline becomes inevitable, he would still be able to command about 15 mil instead of the minimum. Pat Riley has no bigger gun than suspending Jimmy. And if the suspension is petty, he can petition through the player's union and get his money back. Jimmy has already reached the retirement age. He is good if he never gets another contract because mot GMs won't give a 37-year-old a big contract even if they still produce. Get your money early while you still have commanding power.
Sidenote: Jimmy has made more finals appearances than Luka, Jokic, Giannis, Ja, Shai, Harden, Embiid, PG, AD, Booker, Edwards, Lillard with rosters that are far much weaker than the roster the other guys have. If that isn't superstar production, then so be it.
