Have the Cubs done enough after the Kyle Tucker trade?

Uh, no. But the offseason isn’t over yet, as Cubs officials might say. What’s next is the primary topic of conversation for Sahadev Sharma and Patrick Mooney, The Athletic’s Cubs beat writers. They share the bullpen names that they’ve heard, and break down how those relievers would fit at Wrigley Field. Still, it’s been an offseason of mixed messages around the Cubs, a big-market team that hasn’t followed through on an all-in trade, allowing for a youth movement while also carefully monitoring the budget.

  1. They absolutely have not done enough. Listening to Tom‘s comments does not make me excited for the season at all.
I do not have confidence that they are going to do what they can to try to win. Bottom line is they are not a serious team.

  2. Need to stop say "they" so much & call out Tom on his shit. Toms budget constraints are the reason Cubs didn't make the postseason in 23'. Then despite the awful 2 month stretch in '24 they trade for Parades & like Candelario in 23' they stopped because of money & accidentally went over the tax anyway… Tom Ricketts "we'll see at the deadline" crap & setting the luxury tax as the HARD limit is killing this team!!

  3. Don't forget the touted farm system we've been pinning our hopes on is sliding in the new evaluations. There was already a "good but no superstar potential" theme with this farm system (just like the major league team). Now, what was 8 guys vying for MLB top 100 positions is 5 (with only 1 leaving by trade), and every one of them going the wrong direction from last year's rankings.

  4. Appreciate you taking Ricketts to task for his absurd comments and unwillingness to spend. Believe he thought the Tucker trade alone would jazz the fan base for '25 with no intention to spend $400m to extend him. With the Cubs brutal schedule in April-May they could be out of contention right out of the gate, then trade Tucker at TDL and get a fraction of what they gave Houston for him. Ricketts: Once a fan, now a sham.

  5. It's a really dumb question. The Dodgers have 5 aces and 3 closers. The Cubs ZERO aces. They do not have a closer or a back up first baseman. They do have 8 catchers that Jed signed in the off season though. They should sign Trevor Bauer for 750 grand. He is willing for play for the league minimum. His words not mine. If you think Shote is an "ACE" he is not. He's the number 6 starter on the Dodgers and the number 5 or 6 guy on the Yankees. Bauer is a legitimate ace and he does NOT cost 30 million a year.

  6. As long as rickets owens the team there never gonna do enough, he said one of the most stupid ass coments ive ever heard an owner make!!!! We just try to break even,,, sorry ass

  7. Remember when Theo tanked 5 years to get prospects , and built a dynasty that took 7 games to win the World Series against Cleveland. They have marquee sports network that was supposed to bring in money to sign big name talent, but who wants to pay to watch a so-so roster and team. When games were on WGN and available to all fans of various income levels it was fine, but I’m not paying my hard earned money to watch bargain bin team. Dodgers have built a team worthy of charging good money to see, the Cubs are more public access .

  8. That would be a big NO! But the Cubs are like the Bulls now… satisfied with being mediocre. But I guess that’s what happens when you’re just trying to “break even.” Fu*k Ricketts.

  9. Cubs think their fans are stupid. Their revenues are $506m.
Also I have inside info that you could research, the cubs formed 22 LLC's for the businesses around Wrigley that they owned so that revenue doesn't get put into profit sharing.

They have the money to trade for 1 top starter, sign bregman and to have kept Bellinger. So yeah we are very disappointed.
