Bregman wasn't a super realistic target for the Giants, but that pipe dream evaporated as well thanks to a three-year, $120MM deal with opt-outs after each year from the Red Sox

  1. not sure why these are posted in this sub. its clear we’re not going to sign anyone else except maybe dusty bakers son

  2. very glad we locked in the chapman contract early. he’s a better player for less money

  3. There was no chance the Giants were going to sign Bregman. The team is cutting payroll.

Edit: Nice, downvoted for what has happened. Bagg’s report in November about cutting payroll and leaving a decent cushion (23.6ish mil) under the luxury tax has come true.

  4. When the season began, I was hoping the Giants were going to retain snell, and sign Adames for SS, Ha-Seong Kim for 2B, and Walker for 1B.

High point was Adames actually signed, and Giants were the rumored landing spot for Burnes (who is actually an upgrade over Snell). The pivot to Verlander showed me that the Giants aren’t super serious about contending 2025, and this is another development / transition year.

Still: lots to root for. Ramos and Fitzgerald avoiding the sophomore slump. Lee proving he’s a legit MLB CF’er and viable lead-off option. Matos perhaps busting out in RF. Bailey winning a platinum glove. Chapman and Adames leading up to their contracts. Schmitt sticking in the bigs

And that’s just on the position player side! Can Ray stay healthy and contribute 150+ innings? Ditto Verlander? 2025 Giants go as far as their young pitching takes them. I’m an optimist so I’ll put it at 80 wins (Vegas pegs the team at 76 wins).

Hope Luciano is traded while the Giants can still get “30 cents on the dollar,” and a real prospect back in return. Pirates, Guardians or Nats would be a good fit. Doval could also use a change of scenery. Packaging them together could net a really nice player coming back in return.

Tempted to sell high on Tyler Fitzgerald, but that top-1% sprint speed is so elite. At worst he’s a powerful bench piece. Would like to see Fitz get some reps at CF and 1B this spring; as I truly feel Schmitt could be the 2B of the future (just as much pop, but way way better hands and arm). That’s why I’d like to see Fitzgerald at 1B.

Flores and LWJ should really be cemented to DH at this point in their career. Go all in on speed and defense!

  5. Meh, who cares? The Giants weren’t pursuing him, and his deal with all the opt-outs is the epitome of what Posey wants to avoid. Add in that he had a qualifying offer, he’d probably just turn into Snell and cost a lot of money and draft picks for just essentially a one year deal.

  6. We don’t need Bregman. We have Chapman and Adames locked up long term at 3B and SS, with Fitzgerald getting a well deserved chance at 2B.
