The Fifth Starter: When Net Rating Data Lies

  1. Thought I’d share this look behind the “fifth starter” metrics while they’re not in constant flux during the ASB here. Lotta fun infographics in this one!

  2. All I’m hearing is that we win by thirty if Strus and the core 4 just play 48 minutes. We need to get Thibs in here asap.

  3. Hunter has said he likes to come off the bench but whoever is playing better will probably finish the game

  4. Bob doing the lords work and providing us Cavs fans with consistently great content. Thank u sir🫡

  5. it should be hunter or wade, but i think what’s more important is having hunter on the floor when mobley/allen isn’t, not even necessarily to cover defensively, but to give him some space to operate offensively

a second shift at the 7 minute mark of garland, strus/jerome, hunter, wade, and allen maintains size, length and spacing

third shift equally, with mitchell, strus/jerome, hunter, wade and mobley

hunter is a talented offensive player in his own right and it’d be a waste to not give him some opportunities as the second/third option

  6. The only truly solid data we have of who should be the 5th starter is if we’re playing the Bucks, the 5th starter has to be Okoro.

Anybody who watched those games knows that was one of those games that the net rating here didn’t lie at all and he was actually one of, if not the primary factor of us winning. Simply put, he is the only player on our team who can guard Dame.

The data that shows Wade being bad against the Bucks and Okoro being good there is actually very accurate to how those games played out. Lillard pretty much had his way with us every time Okoro wasn’t on the floor, and that made Wade a liability against him obviously as his major weakness at the 3 is quicker perimeter guys.
