Last team to win the Stanley Cup wearing white at home AND colors on the road.

  1. I think it’s great news. Never should have been switched.

I will say though, will the NHL just keep going back and forth to sell more jerseys?

    Edit: typo

  2. I don’t particularly care but I do want the damn stripes back on the bottom of the jersey

  3. A change that never should have been made in the first place. Whites at home mean season ticket holders get to see more variety in their home arena or viewers on TV. It also makes more sense for playoff ‘whiteouts’ or white rally towels.

From what I’ve heard over on r/hockey, the main gripe against this is that “well now my jersey won’t match the team’s…” And? Who said it needed to match. With the introduction of alternate jerseys and reverse retros you get a mish mosh of colors in the stands anyway. Secondly, this only means they’ll start selling white jerseys again in larger quantities(bonus win). There’s no good argument for keeping darks at home except for fans resistant to change

  4. I dont understand whites at home. Nostalgia aside, why would the I want to see the team play in a white jersey and not their full team colors. I could get behind mixing it up like white jersey nights similar to the 3rd jersey, but no way full time.

Also to be clear, i like our away whites for sure.

  5. Much preferred.

Dark road jerseys let you see so many different jersey options. Darks at home mean you see the same jerseys every single game no matter the opponent

  6. Golly, I hope not. That sounds terrible. I also didn’t know it used to be that way. But I much prefer the red and even the black jerseys over the white.

  7. I’m more interested in the idea of teams being able to more freely schedule color v color matchups based on the discussions around this. Would be really cool to see Devils v Rangers be straight up red vs blue or Dallas wearing green against the Devils red.

  8. Not a big white jersey guy to be honest. I like the color show from the 4 nations tourney we’re seeing

  9. 4 nations proved teams just need to have different colored jerseys, not necessarily a home and away. Our reds vs rangers blues, you can see every teams full colors wherever you are. White jerseys can be for teams with the same main colors or when they want.

  10. It’s not as cut and dry as the post makes it. It would be similar to the NFL, in that both teams can choose the jerseys they are wearing per week. So under the new cba, it would allow teams to wear two home jerseys if the nhl agrees to it. For example the sharks and devils would be able to play a home game in red and the sharks in blue/black.

  11. I feel like I only *just* got used to seeing the reds at home like 5-7 years ago, now we’re switching back?

  12. So much preferred. It’s boring seeing all white jerseys from every visiting team. That’s our chance to see their colors – we know what ours look like

  13. I’m fine with this as long as there is some rhyme or reason to what uniform they wear. I don’t want the NBA-style “never know what uniform you’re gonna see” system.

Call me old fashioned, but the uniform should be about team identity and not just the team making a fashion statement.

  14. IMHO the norm should be color vs color. I would love to see red vs. blue against the Rangers.

  15. How about the teams get to where whatever color they want where they want as long as it’s not the same color as the other team. If it is the same color home team chooses and away has to wear alternate. Seeing international hockey again with color v color looks super nice.

  16. When we had an ECHL team in Trenton they’d start with home whites and then switch at the halfway point. I was a fan of that.

  17. I think they should do what the nba does and be more relaxed with the jersey rules. Let the home team choose and let teams wear more than 3 jerseys

  18. I’d like to have whites one half of the season and reds the other half. It’s not just about seeing your own team. I’d also like to see the opponents different colors as well.
I also like the idea of letting both teams where color jerseys. Rangers – Devils as blue vs red would be nice
Also, Playoffs let teams decide what color they’d prefer to wear at home for the series

  19. I think it’s dumb, but as a displaced fan in NC I welcome the opportunity to wear the red at games

  20. I was more annoyed when they changed it before than I’ll be happy if they go back. I still just love the white ones.

  21. The correct answer is to allow teams to play colors vs colors because why the hell can’t we do that?

  22. I hate this

Edit to add- I HATED it when they switched from the white to red at home. It took me quite literally years like over a decade to get okay with it. And now I’m obsessed with the red jerseys and prefer them just generally. I don’t like change. I like basically just got used to the change to red. Grrrr.

  23. No. Terrible idea.

Instead of wasting time on this dumb idea, Bettman and everyone else in charge needs to fix the broadcasting disaster that makes it so hard to watch games.

  24. Another lazy “change but not real change” idea by the league. And it comes after nearly every team has successfully marketed home games by incorporating a color theme, like the Caps’ “Rock the Red” for example. Those marketing campaigns increased jersey sales and attendance, no doubt.

How about real innovation like doing color on color as has been upvoted enthusiastically on other hockey-related subs and successfully proven this past week at 4 Nations? Imagine Vancouver v. Calgary, Nashville v. Dallas, Florida v. Tampa Bay, San Jose v. Anaheim, Buffalo v. Chicago, etc. The road whites would still serve a purpose for your Boston v. Pittsburgh situations (though the Penguins could easily wear one of their myriad powder blue third jerseys).

  25. I wish more teams just said fuck it and deleted white Jersey. For the devil’s be mostly red at home and mostly black on the road.
