If you check out this guy’s TikTok page, you’ll see that he’s gotten the opportunity to shoot a half-court shot for large sums of money at 4 different NBA games over the past calendar year (OKC, Phoenix, Houston, Cleveland). He appears to be a Rockets fan. His handle on TikTok is @sami_hoopss.

My question is how is this guy being given so many chances at this? A couple people responded to my comment on an earlier post in this subreddit with some conspiracies but this genuinely a really strange situation. Should his involvement with insurance companies that back the money behind these events be investigated? The Cavs have had an awful lot of fans hitting half-court shots recently. Is it a positive PR move to have certain “half-court shot experts” handpicked to participate in these spectacles?

In my personal opinion him asking DG to match the 10k is a pretty nasty grift…

  5. Man, what a mess. Does anyone know how people are chosen for half-court shots? My best guess is just that there is something predictable with how teams choose the people to make these shot attempts, and he’s some semi-professional guy who goes around to attempt them.

  10. I feel like the insurance company wo8ld have some pretty strict rules against professionals getting paid out if they hit the shot.

    And while *I* can’t see how he’s professional in the way that DG is a pro-baller, the insurance company may take issue with dude having this level of skill for games of “chance”.

    Regardless, homie just fumbled the bag trying to brag because he’s never getting picked again.

  27. In Brazil we used to have some tv shows with bizarre family stories, like mom and son go to the show and the mom says he’s 40, doesn’t work and complains she doesn’t clean the house well. Then a couple of weeks later the same son shows up, but now he’s married and his wife spends all his money on ice cream. This guy being on multiple games gave me the same vibe.

  28. This guy is a scammer, no longer happy for him. Doesn’t deserve any of that money – wouldn’t surprise me if the whole payout isn’t real anyway and he just gets paid a smaller paycheck to come out and make shots and “hit it big”

  29. That’s crazy. I was just thinking last night about how I feel like I’ve seen a bunch more videos of fans making half courters lately. It’d make sense if the shots aren’t from actual fans and instead are from a pool of people who practice half courters
