  1. Is it unreasonable to ask for Holl to get yeeted into the fucking sun this off season?

  2. Went to bed after the second last night only to see the almost-buzzer-beater this morning & be crushed. The boys looked incredibly good during most the first & the second felt like playoff hockey. Just so unfortunate. I think there’s still a chance but holy moly the boys are really gonna have to work for it

  3. So about a month ago I ordered a Raymond sweater and it just came in ( I live in Eastern Europe). Here’s to hoping that wearing it while watching the game will put us on winning streak till the end of the season

  4. Weird game yesterday which leaves me unsure how to feel. I assumed it would resemble the games from a couple years ago where we got pushed around physically. I did not have cave them in at 5v5 only to get goalied on my bingo card. PP at the end was incredibly soft considering a tied game late in the 3rd of a playoff type game. Will be interesting to see how the team responds because you can’t play better than they have for some games during this losing streak.

As others have said it’s probably something like winning 13-14 of the last 18 to realistically make it which feels near impossible now.

  5. Couldn’t watch last night because I was at the cinema seeing Mickey 17 but just from looking at the box score I know **exactly** how the game played out.

  6. We’ve got the “play meaningful games in March” part down. Now we have to figure out how to win them.

  7. Tough stretch, but still 18 games to play. Played well, got goalied. Just have to maintain course. I’d happily take last night’s effort each night the rest of the way… We’re flat out not getting goalied every night and putting up 50 shots in regulation on the road to a division rival leaves a lot to like.

Doomers will say “yes but I’d take 5 shots in stead of 50 if all 5 went in.” Sure, and that’s less sustainable than we played last night. Sim that game 100 times and we probably win 75-80 of them.

We’ve recently won some games we didn’t probably deserve.. Now we’ve lost a couple we did. Most important game continues to be the next one.

  8. Last season we didnt have any rookies at all and now i wonder if we dont have too many.

  9. this wasn’t one of those JS Giguere ’50 save’ performances where there weren’t dangerous chances. The Wings looked good and had A+ chances all night long. Ullmark was just on another plane of existence. absolutely sucked.

Also the Holl and Mo penalties were bullshit.

did anyone catch Ken Daniels referencing the non-call in the outdoor game?

  10. Not sure who noticed but last night was (imo) Kane’s best game in a winged wheel sweater. That was the hardest I’ve seen him skate since joining the team. Absolutely crushed we couldn’t get the win on a day when he tried so hard to will the team over the line

  11. Listening to the WWP pod talk the cozens trade on my way into work this morning got me thinking.

How many here would have moved Kasper in a deal for cozens?

  12. It’s really hard to make the playoffs when you let in a goal on 30% of all penalties you take. Our PK is now the 3rd worst of all time.. Hope Todd can get that right next year.

  13. call up Wallinder, Tuomisto. Get the young guys up here and give them a chance at games. Also Sandin Pelikka should get games when his season is over and maybe give Lombardi and Nate a chance at a few games near the end. It’s time to end the Holl and Gus pair and put them both in the press box. At least tell the fanbase we see our mistakes and we’re done with them. Play youth the way out, let’s get these rookies experience. If anything there’s no way our D gets worse even if we add 2 rookies cause Holl and Gus suck.

  14. Hello Darkness my old friend.. the red wings lost another one again.. my depression is taking off.. at least we are 50% in the faceoff..

  15. I think realistically/ unrealistically the 2024-2025 Detroit Red Wings need to go:
(Mind you i didn’t factor in RW or ROW for that godforsaken tiebreaker)

    *16-1-1=99 points

    *16-2-0 =98 points

    *15-1-2=98 points

    *15-2-1=97 points

    *14-1-3=97 points

    *14-2-2 =96 points

    *13-1-4=96 points

    *14-3-1=95 points

    *13-2-3=95 points

Or some variation I didn’t just add up in crazy Red Wings fan toss-n- turning sleepless stupor (I apologize if my math doesn’t add up)

I did not factor in further because i don’t think you’re getting in with less than 95, but I could be wrong.

  16. Is there a way to track our PK% with Mo (or other specific players) in the box? I have a theory that when Mo takes a penalty our PK is about 40%, and I’d really be interested in seeing the stats

  17. We are most likely going to miss the playoffs this year. We need to go on a tear AND we need some help from the teams above us.

Assuming we miss again, what do you think Kane does in the offseason?

I would like to see him stay another year — he seems to really like being here, and I honestly think his kid and Cat’s being buddies will be the biggest bargaining chip we have to keep him around.

  18. A losing streak is a losing streak but this one feels so much different than last year. We didn’t deserve to lose last night, we didn’t deserve to lose in Columbus. Can’t help but think things would have been a lot different had we gotten a chance to win that game in Columbus.

  19. Why does this team take the month of March off? This has become as predictable as green beer on St Patrick’s Day.

  20. It’s easy to blame refs here and there, but it’s worth noting that no team takes a smaller % of total PIM than us. 45.53% of all PIM in our games are ours, so we’ve gotten a very friendly whistle all year long. You have to go back to the 17/18 season to see a mark that low.

  21. Can they please take Raymond off the PK. He doesn’t belong there. This dates back to last season with Lalonde, I’m not sure why it’s still happening.

  22. Am I the only one who really enjoyed listening to the Ottawa broadcast last night? Thought those guys were fantastic, did a great job of explaining little details of the game. Can’t remember the last time I watched a game without Ken & Mick where I wasn’t miserable.

  23. I have been an Yzerman defender for a long time, but it’s nobodies fault but him that Holl and Gustaffsson are playing meaningful minutes on a team trying to make the playoffs.

  24. I like what we saw from Smith last night. Time to revise the lines again.

    Raymond – Larkin – DeBrincat

    Berggren – Kasper – Kane

    Soderblom – Rasmussen – Tarasenko

    Motte – Compher – Smith

  25. Honestly I think Ottawa will go on a losing streak again and Columbus too. Remember how it was last year? It’s not like Ottawa is somehow a better team like the Panthers.

  26. One talking point that I’ve seen consistently on here in recent weeks is, “I’d rather build a contender than have a team that would get bounced out of the first round of the playoffs.” While I too want to compete with championships, there’s a few things wrong with this line of thinking.

First of all, the playoffs are a crapshoot. Once you get in, anything can happen. I’m not saying we’d be destined to go on a Cinderella run, especially given how awful our penalty killing unit, goaltending, and 5v5 scoring have been—but it’s a possibility. Sometimes teams randomly cool off and others get hot.

The other thing that’s important to remember is getting to the post season builds experience, especially for players that haven’t been there before (which is like 80% of this team). It allows them an opportunity to build familiarity with the environments, physical demand, and stress of the schedule. Playing in the playoffs provides a point of reference for the next opportunity.

Making the playoffs also is a sign of progress. It’s something the FO can point to as a justification that things are improving in Detroit to more advantageous free agents. Want to stop signing middle of the pack vets who are past their prime? Point to us actually showing signs of the rebuild coming to an end rather than just mystifying our growth as “just one more year.”

To me, I think it’s actually complete bullshit that in 6 years under Yzerman we STILL haven’t played playoff hockey. Not making the post season in more than half a decade is a sign that things are not working.

We as fans should expect better and stop putting our heads in the sand for a management staff that has so far demonstrated to be mostly out of its depth.

  27. If I did my maths right, if we bought out all of Holl, Gus, and Tarasenko this summer would only cost us 3.4 million over the next two years and save us 6.7 million in cap next year… A man can dream.

I feel like Holl is the prime buyout candidate, Gus could easily be ditched to another team or sit in the press box a good chunk of next year. Kinda hoping Senko wants to go back to Russia this summer or something and we can mutually terminate.

  28. MoneyPuck Wheel o Destiny update

For me that collapse isn’t too surprising. The 5v5 numbers were never good, there was an over reliance on the big PP and Talbot/Lyon were never a sure thing. Add in a lack of depth and a long season and I think the standings bear out accurately where this team is

I guess my line in the sand for this team is probably next year. Cossa will be on the team, Ajo and Ed will have a full season, Kasper will be playing 2C, Soda etc…

If they fail again next year then I’ll go full doomer on Yzerman

  29. Just saying if we never win another game we probably pick 3rd or 4th. Imagine all the low offense 200 ft game forwards we could draft

  30. This season has been tough, but the players who needed to show well for the future have. Keep bringing in a few young guys every year and good things will happen. LGRW

  31. This collapse isn’t surprising to me, honestly. This team was, apparently, really a Copp injury away from crumbling, and honestly, I can live with that because we knew how fragile the roster was before the season started. The doldrums of December were probably a bit lower than reality for this year’s team, but in the same light, the Todd winning streaks were also higher than reality.

Like it or not, we said this team would be a bubble team this year and, hey-o, that’s what they are. Individual disappointments like Gus on the back and Senk on the front aside, overall I think the Wings will end the season right where we thought they would before puck dropped on opening night – within a few points in or out of the playoffs. Just like last year, the manner in which they did it was not “consistent mediocrity” but rather “mega lows and ultra highs.” But the fact is, bubble teams by nature are mediocre, not good. It is what it is.

Kasper’s emergence as, at the very least, the floor of the player we want to see him be, and Ed’s progression, and AlJo’s settling in, and Sodastream’s re-emergence as a viable bottom 6 energy guy are all big wins for this season. I’m ultimately not tweaking over missing this year if that’s what happens, because Yzerman made his mistakes over the summer, not as the season progressed, and I’ve already griped about them haha.

We could see this season coming in September; we shouldn’t be surprised by it in March.

  32. bought nhl25 last night and I can tell it’s unrealistic cause my first goal was with senko

  33. When the fuck is Jeff Petry coming back? (Never thought I’d be wishing for his return)

  34. The effort was better last night but we just still couldn’t buy a goal. I have no problems with the effort, and a lot of the guys really toughened up. Particularly Mo, Chiarot, Johansson, and Rasmussen.

But softness is still a huge issue with this team. That’s what I’ve got a problem with. Compher got mugged after a whistle late in the game while Ed and Elmer just stood there. Ed clearly watched it happen and skated away like “dang, someone should do something about that.” You’re 6’6″ dude. I don’t care if that’s not your game, if your teammate is getting ganged up on like that you need to step in and at least get him out of there. I don’t get as frustrated as I used to with the game but that is soft soft soft

  35. Great effort from yesterday we just need to play like that the rest of the season and we’re sure to get some wins. LGRW

  36. In 5, maybe 6, out of 7 games, Detroit will beat Ottawa if they play like they did last night. Same with Columbus. Same with Utah.

Puck luck has been against us and we’ve been constantly goalied. It happens. But it won’t happen forever.

  37. I don’t care if we get bounced 4-0 in the 1st round but just getting to the playoffs and getting the team some experience and reenergizing (I think that’s a word) the fanbase would be worth it.

  38. So I’m going to fuck off and go fishing all day because of if I don’t I’ll go nuts worrying about my brother who’s starting some quite serious chemo

  39. I need someone to tell me their secrets to getting into the arena as fast as possible for tomorrow’s game.
