Heartbreak again — Ullmark makes 48 saves, extending losing streak to 6

The Red Wings deserved to win this game, but Linus Ullmark had a response for everything making 48 saves. Lucas Raymond thought he had the game-tying goal, but upon review time had expired. Larkin scored in his 3rd straight game. Detroit’s losing streak is at 6. #LGRW

  1. Brian I can't believe you forgot, Red Wings legend Jakub Vrana wore 15, same with their old assistant coach Doug Houda. Dallas Drake wore 15 during his first stint with the Wings. Martin Lapointe and Jason Williams also wore it.

Most importantly Darren McCarty AND! Thomas Holmstrom used to wear number 15 before changing their numbers.

  2. Some Red Wings who wore 15.
    AmAlex Delvecchio
    Al Karlander
    Pat Verbeek
    Paul Woods
Note: Alex wore 15 early on until switching to #10. A likely reason he swapped was players were assigned berths in the train by number. Higher numbers got the less comfortable upper berths. Also Karlander and Alex were linemates in the early 70's skating with Mickey Redmond. They aided Mickey a lot when he scored 50 goals in consecutive seasons.

  3. Just call up Sandin-Pelikka already. There is literally no way he is a worse defensemen than Hull or Gustafson. Let him learn at the big boy level or bring in a serious defender already

  4. It’s a conspiracy to keep Detroit out of playoffs. Just sayin look at the officiating league office and of course collusion around the league to block the GM at every turn. Even the draft, I mean come on it’s gotta be sinkin in?! No? Ok nevermind

  5. They sat Berggren and played Tarasenko. That need not ever happen again. Tarasenko is flat out awful. He can be in the right place at the right time but it means F all if he can’t do anything with the puck. Berggren can at least make plays and shoots prolifically

  6. Agreed, both teams got away with some stuff. Am I bananas for thinking that last Seider penalty was just plain wrong? My god.
F Ulmark. That dude is good.

  7. Jonathan Toews is coming to Detroit next season folks for cheap. He wants to end his career with Kane and help Wings.

Debrincat-Toews-Kane for second line with Mitch Marner on top

  8. For the Wings to produce more than a quarter of their goals on the power play (and below average even strength scoring) makes it seem like fixing the PK wouldn't mean they'd be an actual playoff team as much as just a team that might be in the playoffs.

  9. I mean everyone is complaining about Steve's moves, but his poor acquisitions showed they could have won that game. They were the better team without him having to acquire anyone major at the deadline. Steve is shopping the clearance section to buy time for the prospects. His pro scouting team is probably pound-for-pound right up there with every other team because they put together a team that has been in the hunt for the past 3 years, using only coupons. The team Steve is building will have a longer cup window than the sens and others like them because of the decisions he is making now. Eventually, they will be so deep with entry-level contracts, that he can give the greenlight to make a high-end trade to push for a cup, but only when the time is right. You can tell that once Steve helps get them to the playoffs, he wants them there for 10+ years with 2 cups.

  10. You are high as a kite if you think this team is finishing with a draft pick between 10th and 20th…. They’re going to have a top 5 pick at this rate with this schedule with this team…..

  11. All Steve’s fault ,they needed a little jolt ,nothing at trade deadline! There was some help out there but he wants to save draft choices ! It’s like saving timeouts! Gave up on the team after all they went through to get back in it !

  12. as good as the 2nd line was with Marco centering them in that game, at no point trying Larkin Cat Kane – in this game or indeed any time under McLellan – is a fatal error that will cost them the playoffs for the 2nd straight season. those 3 are the best forwards on the team just as they were last year, and we have pretty clearly seen that as things have gone on here under the new coach. watch the second period after Ottawa went up 1 and you see who is or isn't what. on that power play w about a 7 or 8 minutes left in the 2nd, down 1-0, the real top line of 88 71 93 just went full attack mode for their whole shift. Seider got pulled and Gus replaced him, to allow Kane to play freely and carry. but the weak link was Lucas on that shift. bad shots, bad decisions, bad attempts to keep it in. not ready for primetime. Todd's willingness to pull Mo for Gus in that spot is very encouraging and it paid off (just not with a goal, alas), but he is still unwilling to ever demote Lucas 5v5 for a shift, let alone a game. just to try the best top line. the one that's winning 17-7 since Kane showed up. then also, it was the Kasper Cat Kane line and not the top line that answered the bell 5v5 right after Ottawa scored, and created grade A's and got momentum. that line all night was brilliant and was keeping the puck in aggressively and fighting for it every time – even Kane.

men and boys are being separated but unfortunately they are not being separated in the lineup.

  13. You really played out of your minds last night, Ottawa did enough, but Detroit played like they knew they had to win, with Ottawa playing like they knew Detroit had to win. Hopefully Ottawa can learn from this, cause the goalie won’t bail you out like that on a nightly basis.

Detroit had seemingly dangerous attempts, but they looked desperate, Ullmark was already in position even when they were up close and a lot of those shots were right on him and not on net. Not saying there weren’t plenty of high danger shots, there just weren’t a wild amount like it looked.

Great game from Detroit, though, more like that and we’d be swapped in the standings for sure.

  14. My beef with SY is he collected a team full of individuals instead of trying to create a cohesive team. We all knew he inherited a dumpster fire and we had to build through the draft. Instead of doing it the smart and obvious way like the Sharks, he starting mixing rebuild and rebuild on the fly together. The Sharks were in similar position to us. They masterfully rebuilt..in half the time. Yea, they got the draft luck but they full blown tanked in order to get that luck and they made no secret about it. Instead our GM goes out and adds ill-advised contracts like Copp/JT/Charot/Petry/Holl/etc. One needless vet after another. It just MADE NO SENSE. I can't help but to think if SY stuck to the Sharks style of rebuild through draft philosophy and played for a lottery pick we would be at least 2 years ahead in the rebuild. That hurts because now I feel like we are destined to be stuck as a middling team therefore having no chance at a #1 pick that's a must for a rebuilding team. I can't help but to think we blew our shot at an elite #1C/forward that we desperately need. As much as I love and support SY, I just don't see a direction for this team under him anymore🤷‍♂
