The Hockey Guy: Wings Backing Out of Playoff Picture at the Worst Time

  1. I’m like… afraid to watch this.

We are teetering on worst case scenario for this team. A little regression was fine, but turning into a dumpster fire at precisely the wrong time, and ending the season like that, is not.

Going backwards is not good, at all. And I’m afraid we are going backwards.

Mo will be 24 in less than a month. Raymond will be 23 this month. They are entering their prime, and we are in the gutter. Not good. Not good at all.

  2. Might be more regression next year if you expect a bunch of rookies to come to our rescue, which they won’t. Even if they’re good as rookies, rookie heavy teams typically lose and lose a lot.

And if those rookies don’t make the team, get ready to watch another year of Talbot, Mrazek, Chiarot, Compher, Holl, Gustafsson, Rasmussen and company stink up the joint.

  3. Why does this keep happening after the break? Is there a change in systems that falls apart or something?

  4. Hate to say it but this was my prediction since like November.

The team has very good building blocks in place but not the depth or a game breaker to do anything in the post season even if we’d snuck in.

Just barely missing the playoffs the last couple years has deprived us of top draft picks. Giving away assets like Walman for nothing doesn’t help us.

I like mclellan but it was obvious the team is not competitive and maybe we should have stayed with the tank, gotten a top pick in a top heavy 2025 draft, and added mclellan in the offseason to come back stronger next year.

    (*´ー`*)

  5. Don’t worry, we’ll make a run to get right back into it………but ultimately fall just short

  6. Just like the last 4 years. Some reason the team goes missing or ice cold for the first 2 weeks of March.

  7. Until we develop that “killer instinct” we’re going to remain a second division team. These guys still haven’t got the self-confidence to take the next step. Even with former Cup champ veterans dotting the lineup the last few years, we still haven’t figured it out. I don’t know how it will happen but it has to happen pretty damn soon. The natives are getting restless. Soon it’ll be a decade. I know he’s Steve Yzerman and this is Detroit, but he should be feeling some heat in that GM chair. The team seems to have stalled at this level after having improved each year and even the most patient fans are beginning to question the Yzerplan. He’s on his third head coach and we are still seeing the same problem areas on the ice. Things aren’t getting corrected and it’s the same shit, different day.
