My new conspiracy: Yzerplan haters and doubters are infiltrators who want to sabotage the long term success of this beloved team. They should be auto banned for any talk against our dear leaders.

Unrelated: my kid decided to wake us up at 5am for no goddamn reason. At least we are going to the alumni game later today in Fraser.

  2. crawls on hands and knees through a chilling desert… lets out a deep sigh signifying nearly all hope is gone… looks to god for help but there is no response…. whispers “lgrw” into the cold apathetic abyss regardless

  3. This schedule is rough – I don’t even think we played poorly, Carolina just choked us out.

Anyways, I’m already thinking about how to make the roster better for 2025/2026.

    1. The wings appear to have 5 top 6 forwards (jury is out on Soda, who I honestly really like). 4 are back next year, with Kane being the only wildcard. Our bottom 6 is…rough

    2. The wings only have 4 real defensemen.. I like AlJo but feel like he’s more of a top 3rd pair guy vs a second pair guy. But who knows, maybe he grows into it. Our best prospect will likely be a top 4 Dman in a year or two, probably right when we can move on from Chariot (who has been playing better lately, but has been a disappointment as FA signing, he just doesn’t look as bad compared to the other worse guys.)

    3. The big advantage the wings need to exploit is a rising cap and having 3 of their best players (Larkin, Raymond, Seider) on 3 super team friendly long term deals. There is cap space to be aggressive to get a star.

    4. Even with cap space, our pro scouting is flat out terrible. I don’t trust our guys to zero in on 3-4 mid level FAs at 5-7 mil per year. I’d rather overpay a high end guy or superstar by 2-3 million just so there’s still value instead of ending up with another Holl or Taresenko. We do draft well, so I’d rather go big on a top end guy, and would rather roll with a couple ELC rookies over mid level FA. Essentially bring in the Soderblums instead of paying a Compher or Copp 5-6mil AAV

So having said that here’s the plan

    1. Resign Kane 1yr 4.5 mil (incentives to get up to 7mil, not unlike current deal)

    2. Buyout Tarasenko and Holl. I never want to see Holl on the ice ever again. Gus is spared, one more year and only 2 mil on deal, fine

    4. In terms of FA/trade – you need to walk away with a top 6 forward. This is the hardest part of Yzermans job imo, since each option probably has like a 10-15% chance of happening but you have to try

    A. free agency pipe dreams are guys like Marner or Bennett. If Marner is willing I would offer 8×15. Even if these guys say no, see if you can get a Marchand or someone around that level on a one year overpay (1×8-10)

    B. Trade market – maybe this means going all in for Pasta, or even trying to rebuild the expensive Elias Petersson. In terms of what we give up, I think you start the trade with a first, either Cossa or Augustine, and go from there.

    C. Depending on how buyouts and trade go/ bring up more young guys. I would rather take our chances on a ASP/Buium/Willinder then sign another Holl/Gus

So here’s the roster for 2026

    Raymond-Larkin-high level trade/FA forward

    Cat-Kasper-Kane

    Soda-Danielson-Mazur

    Ras-Copp-Compher

    Seider-Chariot

    Ed-AlJo

    ASP-Gus/Buium/Willinder

    Mrazek/Talbot/Cossa (if not traded)

    Waiting in the wings

    GR- Lombardi, MBN, kisskinen,Augustine
    KHL – Buchelnikov

  4. Maybe the Sabers will fight Vegas a bunch and they’ll be super beat up and tired tomorrow.
