[Gambatese] Cody Glass Contract Projection

  1. He definitely seems like an upgrade to the middle/bottom 6.. although of course it’s only been 4 games. Wouldn’t really be opposed to a 2 year deal like that though.

  2. It’s been 4 games. It’s interesting to look up comparables but let’s see how the rest of the season goes. He wouldn’t be the first guy to jump out with some points after a trade to impress his new team and then fall back.

  3. He’s a big upgrade on our current 3C and 4C so why not try and lock him in for a few years. Not like we have many centers in our system clamoring for a spot. For $3m AAV that’s worth rolling the dice on a 3 year contract. Worst case scenario if he doesn’t pan out I don’t think it’ll be hard to trade him.

  4. 6th OA, underperforming center, I think we picked up someone else’s Pavel Zacha!

(I appreciated Pavel, and always rooted for him. Hope Glass continues to thrive with us.)

  5. If he keeps up his play but settles back to reality just a little, which I expect, I’m offering 2m but for three years. That low a contract can be buried in the AHL if needed, but gives him the extra year of guaranteed contract when he’s a player who’s been close to being a full-time AHLer some years. I don’t think the Hayton comparison is very useful because Hayton’s “comparable” top year is, for a player in this portion of the lineup, actually quite a bit better than Glass’s, and because he’s with Utah/Arizona, which has been close to the cap floor and didn’t mind shelling out a little extra to keep above that floor. We took a chance on a guy who hasn’t stuck with multiple teams and brought him to a playoff bound team with a better surrounding cast than he’s had – he should take a little discount compared to being with a cap-floor team that drafted the guy.
