[Nightengale] There is no clear-cut favorite to become MLB commissioner after Rob Manfred retires in Jan. 2029, but several owners say they plan to push for owner Mark Attanasio of the Milwaukee Brewers to be his successor.

  1. Kinda out of left field. I figured after Manfred, the owners would constantly push for a labor lawyer to be commissioner.

  2. That would certainly be a big change at the top. Instead of a corporate lawyer who came up in the league office you’d have a finance guy from a small market. I imagine the other small market owners are the ones pushing this. They see Mark winning and drawing fans in a small market and want to emulate that, I assume.

But it also means he’d have to sell the team. And that terrifies me.

  3. It takes skill to do the job of providing a “summer of entertainment and passion and a way for families to come together,” and Mark Attanasio is laser-focused on reaching that goal.

  4. Yea the league and the owners need loyal subjects and Mark has proven himself as of late. I can’t imagine he would be the majority choice though
