When I was a kid I used to root for this dude all the time!
Why? Who knows! I was an 8 year old enjoying good ol' baseball without knowing none of the nuances & numbers, and I just thought the guy was cool! It was maybe that he was latino looking amd a bit short like me. Who the hell knows.
Can proudly say I even met the guy in a meet & greet down here in Tijuana and also saw him in game 2 of the 1998 WS.

Who was your favorite random SD Padres player of all time?

  1. Got to meet Quilvio when I was in Little League. He signed so much stuff for a bunch of 9/10 year olds that day. He was friends with one of the coaches.

  2. X Nady for sure. While Bochey was a great manager, he rarely gave the youngsters a chance to shine. Nady ended up with a pretty decent career after the Pads, but always felt he could have been special if Boch had let him play every day.

  3. I took a piss next to a WASTED Brian Giles at a random Chargers game circa 2007.

But to answer the question, it’s Adrian Gonzalez.

  4. Is Kevin Kouzmanoff random enough? Met him randomly at my high school job and he couldn’t have been cooler. He told me that Rawlings (I think) gave them gift cards for wearing their gloves and he was gonna buy a guitar with it. Randomly I saw Adrian Gonzalez come in and use a gift card and I asked him if he got it for wearing the glove he couldn’t figure out how I knew haha.

  5. Quilvio was super cool, got to meet him at a meet & greet in Tijuana. Great guy and hella fun. Ruben Rivera was also there as most definitely NOT as cool.

  6. Who didn’t like to go to the Q to watch Q? There are just SO many random Padres from the past. It’s hard to pick between Archi Cianfrocco, Jody Reed or Bip Roberts. Then again I’m partial to the Joey Hamiltons, Andy Benes’ and Atlee Hammakers of the world too. So between Jed Gyorko, Damien Jackson, Darrin Jackson, Derrick Bell, Catcher Ben Johnson, Ian Kinsler, Eric Lauer, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Scott Linebrink, Doug Mirabelli, Eric Show and John Vander Wal I choose……Eric Owens, CF as my favorite random SD Padres player.

  7. Not totally sure of the name, Eric Owens maybe? Wasn’t the most skilled, but always gave his all. They had a dirty jersey give away night once for him. Guy had a lot of heart. The other guy, Kahill Green, man before he went mental, he was so incredibly smooth, made it look effortless the way he handled short, and his bat was also excellent. Then there was Boomer. Yeah we had some for sure. 👍
