Upsetting the Clemente family while also being a terrible owner is a new low for Nutting

  1. This is the epitome of classless…love the players and team…loathe the ownership…

  2. Not defending Nutting on this or anything else, but I don’t give a flying fuck what Jr. thinks after he went on stage to endorse Trump last year.

  3. Shameful. Any update on the bricks that were removed? Remember the team alluded to they would be repurposed somewhere only after the removal was noticed and they were questioned.

  4. Watching the Yankees feed and they just said that the team put out a statement saying that it was an honest mistake and that they didn’t know it was going to force the removal of the 21 and that they are going to put it up on top of the ad.

In otherwords….Oops, we didn’t realize people would notice this.

  5. I am weary of the never-ending love affair with Clemente (Honus Wagner is the greatest Pirate ever and doesn’t receive 1/10 of the attention), but this is a terrible look for the franchise.

Go find another place to hang a sign for beer money – especially on the right field wall, which is 21 feet high for Clemente.

  6. Roberto Clemente was the greatest Pirate player in history and a generous humanitarian on top of that. For Nutting and the Pirate organization to remove a tribute to him for some damn booze advertisement was thoughtless and classless and only goes to prove that they’re in this to pack more money in their pockets while caring nothing for the history of the ball club, let alone the shitty product they’re running out there every day.

On a second note, Clemente Jr. is an ignorant embarrassment who suckles the milk-less tits of the convicted felon, so his words carry no weight at all, but Nutting and the Pirates shouldn’t have needed this POS to speak up before doing the right thing.

  7. A “temporary adornment” for probably the greatest player in the team’s history. That’s pathetic.

  8. I honestly doubt Nutting was even aware of the sign replacement, but whoever did decide had to know fans were going to notice.

  9. Been a fan since the early 90s, but this ownership group makes me want to leave to another team

  10. Who cares. The Clementes should be ashamed to be associated with the pirates. Let him make his money from that stupid ad. I won’t be there this season.

  11. Its all fine and good that everyone hates the way this team operates. But this is really kind of stupid and a non issue. The man has the right field wall named in his honor, a larger than life statue outside the gates, a bridge, his number retired and probably half the fans wearing jerseys and shirts in the stadium wear 21. He has a museum.

This sign isnt even decades old. 2022? Are you kidding me? Theres bathroom graffiti in the stadium that has been around longer. The crab fries oil is possibly older. PNC park isnt some place frozen in time. It is a place of business and don’t kid yourselves that anything can be sold to the highest bidder. Do the pirates have to contact the Clemente family every time they make a change? Hardly.

There are a million reasons to dislike the way this team is run, but the outrage people are expressing here seems less than legitimate. At best its kind of a case of everyone hates ownership so anything they do thats of questionable taste or sense doesnt get the benefit of the doubt. If we want to talk about being disrespectful to the memory of Roberto Clemente then maybe lets consider how theyll make every dollar they can off of his merchandise only to stuff it in their pockets and trot hot garbage out onto the field year after year.
