[Acee] The Padres were not making excuses. At all. It’s just that it was, in the words of Jackson Merrill, “cold as (expletive)” the past three days. Manny: “It was (expletive). “I miss San Diego.” Tatis: “I hate the cold. Simple as that.”

  1. Can give them some grace because of the good start, but they’re gonna need to be able to play in the cold come playoff time

  2. Man, that’s fair. I can’t stand that cold windchill weather either especially coming from SD.

  3. With an 8-2 start they definitely deserve some slack. The fans looked miserable AF too, except the drunks in the bleachers, lol.

  4. 45 degrees is pretty nice weather this time of year for Chicago. Only needed to wear a hoodie to the game on Saturday. Too bad I picked the worst game to go to.

  5. Bet they couldn’t even recognize themselves when they went to piss. Shits brutal

  6. Honestly was expecting this. Late winter, early spring Chicago is absolute shit. Temp wise it probably wasn’t bad, but the wind chill is absolute shit. I seem to remember them saying it was like 46 during the game yesterday, but felt the coldest because of the wind chill. I can’t imagine trying to pitch with the wind chill. Still I think all of them would say they just need to perform. But going from Arizona, back to San Diego then to Chicago is rough.

They should ban Chicago from having home games until June honestly.

  7. I got this vibe from their body language during Game 1. Imagine going from plying in sold out home stadium for the first 7 games in 70 degree sunshine to cold and dreary grey 40 degrees in Chicago. I would be low energy too

  8. Cold and early games for a team from San Diego traveling to Chicago? Always a recipe for disaster. Glad they didn’t get swept

  9. Next time the Pads play at Chase the DBacks are gonna crank that AC for sure

  10. as someone from san diego i get it. but living in minnesota… this is not cold haha.

  11. I grew up in Chicago and moved to SD just under a year ago. Those early April days can either be snow, 50 and sunny or the most beautiful spring weather after months of frigid self-hatred.

I’m so sad my Sox don’t play here this year 😢

It’s funny seeing Tatis’s comments knowing what might’ve been if a certain trade didn’t happen 🥶

  12. My sister lives in Chicago and is a Cubs fan.. she told me when the games were starting that it was unusually cold. Even their broadcasters were commenting on the cold and how that was affecting SD.. it must have been rough out there.
