Other SKA players are coming over—if Gritsyuk doesn’t, is it because Fitz didn’t want to burn the only year of his ELC or pay the SKA buyout?

It’s the smart play to not burn his only ELC year. Even with the cap going up, we don’t have that much space. Taking advantage of his and Lenni’s ELC next year is huge to fill out the bottom 6.
Part of me thinks it’s not worth it, just because I don’t see the team making any noise this year either way.
But at the same time, if you’re in the playoffs, you can’t just keep waiting for next year.
I think the smart move is to wait until next season to sign him. We need as much value as we can get from him being on the ELC.
Because hes over 24 we can only sign him to a one year deal where he then becomes an RFA. If he was younger and we could do a 3 year ELC it wouldnt matter but his contract makes more sense to push for next year. Also gives him a full camp.
I think its worth burning the year, given our need for a scoring winger. They can’t take a trip to the playoffs for granted, and he’d still be an rfa this summer.
Tangent- Speaking of “#RaiseUp” I reaaaaaaally hope they do Raise Hell again. It’s so, so good.
Disagree with everyone here so far. This team is going to the Playoffs. You have a chance to make the team better, you do it. How many more “next years” are we going to punt to?
Likely not the ELC thing. Not because Fitz is a saint doing him a favor, he ages out of RFA before he plays out of it. Whether it’s 1 year ELC and 2 years RFA or a 4 games of ELC and 3 years of RFA it’s likely not very different salary wise.
A deal with SKA for a buyout is more than just money. It’s also negotiating with them. I doubt it’s a $ amount that fails if the deal doesn’t workout.
It’s has to be to bcoz we can only to sign him to a 1 year ELC, Nikishin looks to be signing a 2year deal and Demidov signed a 3year deal both will start this year. And under the CBA, legally no team can buy out the contracts of their prospects from KHL teams, it technically has to be the players themselves that do it.
Keep in mind that Gritsyuk isn’t the caliber player that Demidov is projected to be or the player that Nishkin is. He can and probably would make an impact, but is not guaranteed to be as instantaneous as the other two.
The assumption this dude is going to be a difference maker is wild.
hard to know for sure. our ownership certainly hasn’t been trying to compete spendingwise with the top spending teams, but also it’s fair to say this is not the year to blow that elc. but it would be interesting that’s fs!
He’s never played an NHL game before. I don’t think his first experience should be being thrown into Game 1 of a playoff series in one of the hardest buildings to win in
Everyone needs to understand that Gritsyuk is making the decision to wait. It’s financially smarter for him to wait and play a full year, then get a bigger extension next summer
i thought the whole point in not making a big splash in the trade deadline was because they were going to bring this guy over? now they’re not?
Ahh the Russian Cale Makar
Take a fucking risk for once and sign him over worst case is he doesn’t do well in the playoffs and we see the same team that’s been playing since the injuries. Best case is he adds some much needed offence.
Find out what you have now. He’d have to have a superb year next year to warrant a big pay day. Who cares about the extra year of cost control if he winds up being a replacement level player. Worth the risk to see if you can spark the offense in the playoffs
I agree with everyone but Demidov and Nikishin also have more years on their contract than Gritsyuk. It’s not an apples to apples comparison.
