Cincinnati Reds vs Seattle Mariners LIVE MLB Postgame Show Chatterbox Reds | Podcast, Highlights

Trace Fowler and Nick Kirby will be LIVE in the 9th inning!

The Cincinnati Reds host the Seattle Mariners at Great American Ball Park for the first of a three-game series, starting at 6:40 p.m. ET. Both teams enter with identical 8-8 records, setting the stage for a competitive matchup. The Reds, fresh off a sweep of the Chicago White Sox, have activated key players Matt McLain, Alexis Diaz, and Austin Hays from the injured list, bolstering their lineup and bullpen. The Mariners, meanwhile, are coming off a 5-1 homestand against the Astros and Rangers, showing signs of life after a slow start, particularly with late-inning offense.

The pitching matchup features Cincinnati’s Nick Lodolo (2-1, 0.96 ERA) against Seattle’s Luis Castillo (1-1, 2.12 ERA). Lodolo, a left-hander, has been dominant, allowing just two earned runs over 18.2 innings this season, making him a tough matchup for a Mariners offense batting a paltry .220. Castillo, a reliable right-hander, has been steady, and his familiarity with Great American Ball Park from his Reds days could give him an edge. However, Cincinnati’s aggressive base-running, led by Elly De La Cruz, who ranks among MLB leaders with four homers and multiple steals, could exploit any mistakes.
The Reds’ offense, while inconsistent, relies on De La Cruz and Spencer Steer, who leads with 18 RBIs despite a recent shoulder issue. Seattle’s bats, sparked by Randy Arozarena and Julio Rodríguez, have shown late-game clutch hitting, with nearly 40% of their runs coming after the seventh inning. However, their road struggles (0-3 this season) could be a factor in the hitter-friendly confines of Cincinnati’s park, where winds blowing out to left at 10-12 mph may favor power hitters.

Weather in Cincinnati is expected to be chilly, with temperatures in the low 50s, potentially impacting pitching grips. The Reds have a slight edge as -135 favorites, with a predicted close score of 4-3, per some models. Cincinnati’s +43 run differential contrasts with Seattle’s -3, suggesting the Reds are playing more complete games. Expect a tight contest, with Lodolo’s dominance and De La Cruz’s speed potentially tipping the scales, though Seattle’s bullpen could keep it close late. Check MLB.com for lineups and updates.

  1. 5 and 0 since calling up the guys. Like I was saying last week turns out when you put dudes on notice who are struggling and clearly putting in little effort like freely and candelario and the rest of the stragglers it makes people have to step their game up. No coincidence that his team has not lost a game since Benson was called up that game. Even if he hasn't played it still put dudes on notice. Now imagine if this team had lost all of those one-run games this team would be ranked as one of the best teams in the league.
