Brandon Beane BLASTS ‘WR critics’: REACTION to the Bills GM with WGR’s Jeremy White

Brandon Beane went on WGR 550 Monday morning and responded to critics that feel the Bills haven’t done enough to improve the wide receiver position. The Bills GM said ‘bitching about wide receiver is one of the dumbest arguments I’ve heard.” WGR’s Jeremy White joins Buffalo Plus to give his thoughts on how the interview went and his perspective on the Bills after the draft.

Buffalo has lost Mack Hollins and Amari Cooper this offseason, signed Josh Palmer in free agency but didn’t draft a wide receiver until the seventh round. Mike, Jenna and Dan discuss all of that and more on the latest URENT episode of the Buffalo Plus Podcast.

  1. If we can’t stop anybody it doesn’t matter how many WRs we have. I think that’s what Beane was trying to get to but he was fired up and couldn’t really get that point across.

  2. Beane hasn't been able to build a defense since he's gotten here.. And even the players on defense that have been good for us, most of them were players that Whaley either drafted or signed as free agents.. Tre White, Matt Millano, Jordan Poyer, Micah Hyde etc.. And even tho we scored 30 pts a game, Josh had to be Superman most games and deliver wow play after wow play! We got lucky last year that he didn't break his throwing hand cuz he would of missed significant time.. The "everybody eats" mentality is cool and all but Beane has to get Josh a go to pass catcher for big moments in big games.. A player that will draw double coverage and open up other guys so Josh doesn't have to extend so many plays cuz the receivers aren't getting open fast enough.. Sick of seeing Josh getting smacked near the sidelines cuz he had to extend a play for 6-7-8 seconds..

  3. Bills need a unicorn like Desmond Washington when they go up against the Eagles to stop Henry. Or use Washington as a fullback.

  4. I think it’s time to take a break from Buffalo Negative. All the respect to Mike for his many years covering the NFL. Hot takes from people who never played the game and admit they don’t watch tape is useless information. The constant defense of their silly takes is boring. This channel had a good thing going, not anymore. Kind of boring, repetitive. I’ll fill the void by watching Joe Marino, Sal C and more Cover 1 content. Ciao

  5. Two things. One I think both sides are fine. Beane can get fiery and reporters/analyst have a right to critique no matter how good the organization is. Beane has lots to be criticized and I think you 3 got it on the nose. When it’s counted bills have lacked the blue chips to push in.

    2. I was one of the negative comments about how negative the max show was. But I think it’s a mistake for B+ to continue harping on it. To keep referencing they don’t want to be too negative. To keep saying it’s ok to have an opinion when you’re not an expert or didn’t play. Just cause we thought it was a negative show doesn’t mean you can’t be negative. Keep having your own opinions no matter what the comments say.

  6. If they took a WR in the third or fourth these same guys would be complaining that hes not a burner/generational talent. Life is about trade-offs and it's easy to criticize when you're not responsible for them or have to live within your means with options in front of you.

Lastly, eveyone said we need to take the load off of Josh a bit. Putting him in a position where he can win by only needing to put up 20 points per game is exactly that solution. You can't get to the SB by scoring 40 and homding your opponent to 39 each game. The league is returning to a running and grinding era and we have to be ready for that.

  7. The problem with the defense is the soft zone scheme more than it is the players. They have had many good defensive players come and go and get the same result every year. McDermotts scheme doesn’t put the defensive players in good positions vs the top QBs.

Mahomes plays his best vs our system. No matter who we add if the system doesn’t change nothing will change.

  8. Agree with Jenna 100%. They would rather have Allen play with less talent and it doesn’t make sense.

However yes our offense left the field
Of their last drive with zero points the last two years. Wasn’t the defense that let Mahomes drive down with 2 mins left to win

  9. Couple questions, do you think Brandon's response could have been a negotiation tactic considering they had Elijah Moore "in the building" that day? Second question, given the new kickoff rules, do you think the focus in round 4-7 was to shore up special teams, especially given the coaching changes. Love the pod; you are my first "subscribe" on YouTube ever. Thanks!

  10. I disagree with your point of view. I think Beane did a phenomenal job focusing on the defense so much, that it puts us over the line. Adding 1 receiver isn't going to change much. Adding an so much defense in the draft is going to get us far closer to beating the elite teams, than just Adding an iffy WR in the draft. Also, no duh that we have to start at the bottom of the mountain. News flash: so does everybody else! If Mack Collins is the best we got, we got bigger problems! Mack ain't getting us over the line. Stop whining!

  11. I’m befuddled “yes I wrote befuddled” why you are all so focused on WRs having more production when we lead the league in points scored. Do we take away carries from Cook then complain about the running game next year. The goal is to score points. We did that. Josh has ALOT of offensive options.

  12. You’re saying that you want to see Allen with more… we literally had an all pro receiver for four years…. And when it came down to it that all pro receiver did not deliver in the playoffs. And you know what else hasn’t been consistent in the last 6 years of playoffs? THE DEFENSE! The defense has to be better in the playoffs no question about it.

  13. I cheered loudly when he started out guns a Blazin. I literally had to turn off that show about 30 minutes in because it was solely called complaining about WR…

  14. Why does Josh Allen have to score so many points. Due to the defense not doing their job. Also i feel like your not repecting the Bills WR. They played so much better than anyone would give them credit. Also who says that any WR that they would draft would be better than any on the roster.

  15. Had we had a stout D last year we might have gone to the dance….there are teams out there with number one receivers and the who don’t go the play offs.

We had a #1 and that didn’t go well

  16. The receivers they want arent there when they draft. No need to reach for talent when Defense is clearly our problem. I watched the whole draft. There wasn't a single receiver available that made sense. Cook, Davis, Coleman, Samuel, Kincaid, Knox, Shakir we will be fine.

  17. I'm also personally sick of everyone talking about wide receivers again. No one this year was a lock and it just seems like all the local media wants to be negative even though we saw promise from Keon last year and saw how Josh can elevate a player. He helped Mack have his best year, Palmer could probably be even better
