What Kyle Monangai Can Add to the Chicago Bears RB Room | CHGO Bears Podcast
We’re talking about the Bears new running back, Kyle Manungai, today. We’re going to talk to his running back’s coach at Ruckers. We’re going to break down the film. Lot more coming your way as well. Cho Bear starts right now. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Welcome into the seat. the HGO Bears podcast on this Thursday in May. We are in May, boys. We are here. Yeah. Yeah. Shout out May. Shout out May. That just means the weather’s a little bit nicer. Adam Hog, Mark, Carman, and Greg Braggs Jr. with you today. How’s it going? Uh, it’s going great. Shout out to Hog who uh his dedication to this show is second to none. Shout out to you, Gregory, for your dedication. But you know, Hog and I have been taking the same train in the last couple of days, so intermittently at least. And today we were on that same train. Hog walked to work. I took the bus. Shout out Hog. Guy’s just doing it better than I am. He was actually standing across the street at the bus stop as the bus was coming up and I yelled at him from across Madison. He gave me the don’t do it. I said don’t do it. Don’t get on the He’s and he just looked at me. He looked at me in disgust. Pod committed. Yeah. It’s called partially torn a uh partially torn achilles. Fair ladies and gentlemen, me and you. The bus. Making good friends on the bus these days. Getting some good listener interaction. Okay, we welcome into the show. We are going to be talking a lot about Kyle Manungai today. Uh the Bear seventh round pick who probably would have gone a lot earlier in some other drafts but you know got pushed down because of the running back depth in this draft. And we’re gonna break down some film here in a little bit, but looks like he’s ready to go, Stephen. Right. Okay, we got Deir Shaw, who’s the Rucker running back’s coach. And I don’t know, coach, usually when we talk to college position coaches who are in their car, they’re out recruiting. Uh, is that fair enough to say right now, coach? Yes, it is. It is. I was wondering I’m trying to turn my my camera off because it’s a bad look to be driving and talking. But it’s all good. It’s all good. How you guys doing? Thanks for having me. Good. Well, thank you for jumping on the show today. We’ll take You sound good and that’s important. Uh by the way, congrats on being a nominee for the Broyals award this half this past season which uh goes out to uh the top assistant coach in the country. So, uh, we got one of the best assistants in the country joining the show, and we want to hear about your guy Kyle Manungi who got drafted by the Bears in the seventh round. What are the Bears getting here, coach? Yeah. Well, tell you what, you talked about um that that that awards nominee that had a lot to do with Kyle Nung guy. Here’s what I’ll tell you about Kyle, and it’s what I told everybody I’ve spoken to about Kyle throughout the draft process. Um, he’s one of a kind, right? and the film that you guys watch and study on him and and the things that you guys are impressed by. I see that saw that on a day-to-day basis for the past two years. I mean, the way he plays the game is the way he practices. That’s how he prepares. Uh he’s just a grinder. He’s going to be the smartest guy in the room. He’s going to be one of the toughest guys on the team. He’s going to be a bluecollar guy. and whether he’s the the the third running back or if he’s the starting running back, if he’s gone for thousand yards in a season, if he’s just playing special teams, he’s going to be the same guy is going to bring that work ethic every day. So, Kyle really was a was a bright spot in our room and helped um shape the culture in our running back room with a lot of the young guys that we have. Coach, can you speak to the uh I see a lot of patience in his game when I’m watching the the film like some plays from the back end zone angle where I’m sure he’s it’s probably coming from a deep understanding of the schemes you guys are running and also just the the patience to know that all right that hole is not open right away but if I just kind of wait half a second it’ll open up for me. Um is that one of his strengths? Oh man, absolutely. Absolutely. That goes back to his preparation, right? And how smart he is. He understands, like you said, the entire scheme. He understands um Oh, I think we just lost him. This is one of the more fascinating battles that we’ve ever had in interview history as as we’re trying to get the internet scoop on the fly here. Yeah, I should have asked him where he’s recruiting right now. The recruiting trail right now cuz you never know. Yeah, for sure. The Bears went to Idaho to get Coulson Love or the Michigan went to Idaho, I should say, to get Coulson Lovelin. I I’m sure the connection wouldn’t have been so good out there on the lava flows. That’s true. I mean, I was going to recommend uh a reconvene at a rest stop type of situation, but uh he was battling through and it was it was holding, but it was we’re seeing some some of the freezing. So hopefully our guy will check back in here. But listen, the more I dive into the Kyle Manung guy, if you will, the more I am hopeful that he could make a big-time impact. I mean, this is a guy who he was not highly recruited coming out of high school. He he was fighting to get a D1 offer because of his size. and um you know he he’s the chip on your shoulder player who’s always counted out. I like I I like making bets on guys like that. And he I mean this dude had big-time success at Rutgers. He was the leading rusher in the Big 10 in 2023. He had 300 plus more yards than Tvon Henderson partly because he’s more durable, at least he was that season than Trevon Henderson. So I’m trying splitting carries too with Quinn Sean Jud. Well, yeah, but fair enough. Fair enough. But uh I mean part of it was just the she sure she sure ability can play. He’s better he’s better than Trayvon Henderson. He’s better than Trayvon Henderson. Don’t push back. I’m not pushing back. I’m just being fair to the conversation. But the dude can play. I mean you see his highlight reel. Obviously anybody has a good highlight reel. But the guy can play as Adam mentioned. going to the seventh round shouldn’t, you know, deter you from, you know, expectations for this guy. He’s not Travis Bell from Kennesaw State. With all due respect, this is a guy coming from the Big 10, played against some of the top teams in the country, even their non-conference schedule. You’re playing teams like Miami and things of that nature. So, dude can play and it’s going to be exciting to see him out there at training camp. I think we got coach back and that’s a great, by the way, that’s a great uh job right there. Set the bar low. He’s going to be better than Travis Bell. I like that. That’s how I’ve done. Well, I mean, just your typical seventh round pick. I’m not trying to be disrespectful to Travis. No, of course not. Travis Bell made it to the NFL, man. Congrats to him. Yep. Uh, coach, you got us. I don’t think coach got That’s a That’s a That’s an O for two. It looks like he’s muted there, too. Well, we’ll try one more time. And if not Oh, there he is. You guys hear me? Yeah, we got you now. Hey, coach. So, where So, where where are you at? I am, but I see a delay on you guys. Yeah, we’re good. Uh, we’re good if you’re good. Where where are you recruiting right now? You know what? Somebody, so I can’t let you know where I’m recruiting. So, I you guys offline and let you know where I am. I like it. Fair enough. I like it. I like it. I like it. 708 uh touches in four years and never fumbled the ball. Have you ever seen anything like that? Listen guys, yeah, I think we tried. Yeah, the effort was unbelievable. Someday there will be a book written about. It was a Manungai level effort. who Deir Shaw recruited on this day and brought it into the Ruters program. He I think the Ruters program actually sabotaged his phone because they didn’t want this was too dangerous of a situation. Um well, let’s let’s do this. Um he could try with without perhaps we can’t hear him anyway without the video. Okay, we can’t it’s fine. We we tried. It was a good effort. Um and we move on. That’s what we do here. Um, I guess the only question I have is do we jump in do we want to jump in the ODK now? We can wait. I mean, we I mean obviously we I we can I mean that’s up to you, Hog. You’re the You’re the boss man here. I never want to wait for an ODK. I have a hard time waiting for an ODK. I I do if you guys um do want a transcription of our interview, but you’re right about the patient running. Um [Laughter] Forget what you’re saying. Just send me an email and I’ll get you a transcript. Just like you weren’t talking. No, he’s not. He’s not talking. I definitely am talking. I want I want I want to set a transcript. I want to send a transcript. Did Kyle CB Robert Blake Stout and Detail Do No, but you’re right about his the patient running. Like I I I think people don’t really appreciate the art of patient running behind your blockers and not just setting up your blockers, but the way you press the hole. And I don’t know if everybody understands that definition, but the way you come up to the line of scrimmage, you make that Dline, the linebackers commit, then make your cut. And you have to have a lot of burst to be able to get back to wherever you’re trying to get once you press the hole. And he’s got a lot of burst. He’s got a lot of burst when you watch his tape. Yeah, it’s a there’s and I’m going to show this to you guys here in the in the film breakdown here in a second, but yeah, there’s there’s a difference between burst and top end speed. Another way to look at it is acceleration versus top end speed, right? So, he’s not going to run go out there and run a 4-3. And there’s plenty of examples on film where he’s like out in the open field and he doesn’t score like some other guys that’ll just run away from you. But when he does put his foot in the ground and get up field near the line of scrimmage, there’s a burst there that you need as a running back, that is actually very impressive. Yeah, look, not to put too much pressure on him and not to talk about optics, but if the Bears had picked him in the fourth round, there would be a much different conversation going on and that would have been reasonable based on a lot of They had him in the fourth round. Yeah. A lot of the evaluations that were out there, but they drafted him in the seventh. the there were 21 running backs taking in front of him. Now, I understand there’s a lot of circumstance here, but in the fourth round alone where the Bears had the 109 pick that they traded out of, you had six running backs drafted in the fourth, four after 109. I mean, there was a run. It wasn’t just that Cam Scataboo went in front of him and the Bears punted out. There was four running backs like basically take and the run just happened right there. And then if you move along to the fifth round, there was three more in the fifth, four more in the sixth. Two running backs in the seventh were taken in front of him. So either the Bears really loved Manungai and had some incredible crystal ball that they knew that he was just going to last there or they were like, “All right, let’s stick to the draft board and do” and he finally and finally a running back popped up on their draft board as the best value. That to me makes the most sense right there. And PS has talked about how they let the board do let the board talk to him. That board was speaking. But I’m also not surprised that he fell a little bit behind some of the other guys because typically when you’re in especially when you’re in the sixth round, sixth and seventh round, teams are usually at that point going to going to bet on traits. So they’re going to they’re going to take the guy that you know his Raz score is outstanding versus Colung whose Raz score was not good. Um, but when you look at what the Bears needed at this position, and I’m going to show this to you in a little bit, I do think this is a a better fit considering they were interested in Ashton Genty early. They were interested in some bigger time running backs early. They didn’t get that. So, at that point, getting a player that’s redundant to DeAndre Swift probably isn’t going to help you much this next season. So, I’d rather use that pick on somebody who has a chance to get on the field, carry, get some carries pretty early and will be a good compliment to DeAndre Swift rather than just like betting on trades here. And Manungai is that guy. I think he’ll get carries this year. I think he’ll be active on game day. Well, it’s interesting and we we’re going to talk about Ryan Ples’s interview on uh uh ESPN 1000 with Captain Jay Hood coming up here, but I agree with you. I think he will, but he’s laying out there’s a lot of running back competition. It’ll be interesting to see where they fall on the depth chart. So, he’s there’s there’s some Ian Wheeler belief going on out at Halis Hall. The one the one way he’s going to have to stay on the field, though, is is pass blocking, too. And so, when you watch his tape, he’s got a lot of good reps where he, you know, shows that physicality. Uh, but he also is going to have to work on those things. Um, you know, my our guy Matt Waldman who came on right before the draft, he said, “Man, must deliver a punch. He catches contact or extends without a strike, and larger defenders have the potential to beat him quickly, or he claps or hugs with his hands. When he delivers a punch, he’s loading up and leaving his feet and overextending. He is an effective lead blocker on keeper plays, working it to the force defender and taking the inside shoulder. And Manungai is patient with his approach deep in the pocket with a safety blitz as he works down the seam towards him. Uh when a safety and a linebacker blitz the same gap, Manungai makes the wise decision of taking the defender furthest to the inside. So there’s a little bit of a mixed bag of things that he needs to work on and things that he does really well and the tape kind of shows that too. So, uh, that’s one of the most key things when a young player comes in, a young running back comes in of how he’s going to stay on the field is his pass blocking. All right. Uh, since we’re focusing on Kyle Mundai today, uh, we’re gonna keep it going. All right. Ready? Manungai. Manungai. What? I don’t know what you just said. You just you invented the next great running back, but we’re focus. Um, all right. You would never say that to Brags. Never mind. Yeah, Howie Marsh. Yeah. Uh, once again, a reminder, we can only show you screenshots. To the guy that said, “You should really try to get the video.” We have the video. That’s where we’re getting these screenshots from. Uh, we can’t show you the video legally or we will cease to exist. It’s a very clear picture though. It is very clear. We got some good video today. It varies sometimes. Um, all right. So, we’re just going to typical running play. Many better than the all 22, but with some teams. Yeah. Is obviously our running back here. Uh, this is actually from two years ago against Ohio State. Um, we’re going to show you just an example of what we were trying to just talk to the running back’s coach about, but the patience um with with his running style. So, we get the double team right here between the guard and the tackle. All right. Now, if you’re just looking at this screenshot right now, you should go to the right. You’re you’re like, “Oh, hey, this is open, right?” That’s what I see. Oh, that’s cuz you’re in this is why Yeah. This is why you are sitting here. Um because that guy is going to make that tackle. K. He plays for Ohio State. He’s really fast. He would just tackle you. Um what what I’d break that tackle. What you don’t know that Manungai knows is that this guard is climbing right here. And if you get this seal Oh, that little this hole is about to open here. Look at that climb by the guard. That’s hot. One of the things I do love though, and this is all over his film, right here, foot in the ground. So, he’s setting this guy up. He’s stepping here first to try to get this linebacker to move that way. And all that’s doing is help setting up this block here and this running lane. So, foot in the ground, get up field. Um, this is all over the tape. That’s that burst, too, that we were just talking about. Once that foot goes into the ground, he hits that hole. Now, you can see now Karm, which way do you want him to run? That way. This way. Quit making that noise. That That Yes, that way. He hasn’t gone through the hole yet. So, the noise is a premature noise. Premature noise. Okay, good. Good call up there. I’ll try to be better. You want that noise? Okay. Little Chris Burman on the show. Why can’t Shout out to one of the all-time greats to ever do it? He is a great Never had a D. Um, now this is a fun play. We got the We’re going to go double under center here. Oh, I like this one. They they it’s fourth and one. They’ve watched this one. They’ve ran this a few times. Yeah. So, we got the quarterback and we got Manungai right behind him getting a good sniff right there. Can we not? I mean, look at how close he is. He’s literally right. It’s football. He might as well be in his jersey. But go. Yes, it’s football. Grow up. I’m sorry. That is aggressive. Go ahead. How about now? That was not planned. By the way, all I was going to show you, that’s Poppy the Poppyesque right there. Look at that. For the record, my eyes are down here where we’re trying to snap the football, you know, to the quarterback and then to the running back. Karm’s eyes are, you know, watching what’s in front of me. Yes. I don’t know. Anyway, we get the double snap going on here, right? Um and and and they sell it well. All these guys are crashing in from Ohio State. This guy actually almost he realizes it late and tries to stick his arm out. And actually a couple times on this run, you’re going to see um him Manungai running through contact, but really good play design. You’re going to see how this opens up. Really, we just need to get one block out here. Now, this is where I’m gonna lose my mind as a coach. The blocking on this play sucks. Doesn’t matter when you have a non guy. So, we have Wow, there’s a lot of room here to run, right? Um, that feels pretty significant. Yeah, unfortunately couldn’t really execute this block too well. And stay on the inside. 14. Yeah, 14. But you do see like low center of gravity here to cut up field, which is another thing about Manungai. So yeah, that guy came off this block and really makes a good effort to A lot of running backs would be tackled right here. So this speaks to that contact balance. He’s got a little bit of David David Montgomery in him. He’s a smaller version of that. Um but a lot of running backs would be tackled here. He’s not. So he’s still going to keep going. He’s got a lot of room to run. If we could just, you know, block this guy, that would help. Unfortunately, this dude is just watching uh and not blocking. So we go downfield and unfortunately what again though 14 man all you got to do is block number one here and this is a touchdown cuz Mongai does not have breakaway speed. Some other running backs would just I’m gone no matter what here. He does not have that top gear. So you know one block would be nice. It doesn’t happen. He ends up getting tackled. It’s still a great play and a great gain on fourth and one. Um, another example here, foot in the ground, letting his block set up, just getting up field. I just wanted to show that one more time because it’s all over the tape. Um, and then blocking. So, this quarterback, I don’t know if they had him last year or not, but two years ago, he was definitely a running type quarterback. So, a lot of times they would basically they do zone read where they’re asking uh, you know, the backs to block or they would fake the handoff and then he would start running up field and block this guy. So, he does have that ability to block. This one sets up and and the QB is able to run through that hole. Um, and then this last one I just wanted to show you too because this speaks to the difference with DeAndre Swift. Okay. Karm, let’s play that game again. Do you see anywhere to run here? You see any holes that are opening up between the tackles? Well, if I’m a nung guy right here, and I don’t want to take too many liberties cuz that’s that’s a big But correct. I’m either going to try to run over that safety. This guy? No, the other one. This guy? Yeah. I got to I’m going to pick one of those two and run them over. That’s what I’m doing. Yeah. Well, this is why the Bears drafted Kyle Manungai because he is going to be patient here. It seemed like nothing was going to open up and now you start to see it, right? Starting to see this lane. I I see it. Um, however, it gets even better than that because this lane is actually going to get covered up here. And I don’t know, a lot of backs would not be able to see that, but he does. So, bye-bye hole that was there a second ago. He puts that left foot in the ground now. And this is where I think he uses his small size to his advantage. Going right through there, huh? There’s not a lot of space here, but he finds it. Now, this is not a touchdown because, you know, Ohio State has a lot of fast guys, but it’s still a pretty good gain. I think it sets them up at like the two or three yard line. So, um, did I see the stat that Ohio State had the most players drafted in one draft ever this year? You would believe it. They were pretty They were pretty damn Yeah, I know Miami had a couple years where like their entire team was drafted. I think it’s worth pointing out that, you know, in this game he goes off massive performance against a really good team in Ohio State. Um, we’re good here, Stephen. The That’s a nice nice job. They’re small but effective. This Rucker team is not full of talented guys, right? You know, there’s not a lot of weapons to go to. That quarterback play in this video I watched, not very good. Um, so he’s really the focus of the offense and the defense and you got a lot of good talented dudes on that Buckeyes defense and he’s still finding a ways to pick up the yards are there, which is really my overall point and what I think the Bears need. I I I hope I don’t come off sometimes as like a DeAndre Swift hater. It’s not that I I think DeAndre Swift is a good player who should be on this roster and get the football next season, but these things I just showed you in this video with being patient, letting some holes develop in front of you. Part of that, too, is trusting the blocking, understanding the scheme that’s in front of you, understanding that if I just hesitate for this half second, that guard’s going to get off the lineman. He’s going to get to that backer. that hole is going to open up. Having that trust and understanding is easier said than done when you know that there’s a bunch of guys out there bigger, faster than you that can tackle you at any time. Um, and so I think that’s why DeAndre Swift a lot of times bounces outside because he knows I have the speed. I can hit the home run of the outside all the time. And that’s great. We saw plenty of moments like in Washington where that turned into a big big touchdown and a big moment when the Bears absolutely needed it. But sometimes you just need the six yards in front of you. Yep. And that’s what I see with Kungai. He’s not going to necessarily be a home run dude, but he’s going to be able to pick up some necessary yards at certain times when that’s all they need. And I do think that is a staple of Ben Johnson as a play caller. understanding whether it’s in the passing game, dude, just run a five- yard route here. Let’s complete the pass, move the ball going, you know, get this thing moving forward, even if it’s only five yards at a time. Same thing in the running game. No negative plays. Same type of thinking. Complete passes, completions equal positive plays. Move the ball forward in the run game. Even if it’s only three yards, that’s still in the right direction. Well, no one is set up potentially to have a bigger jump from last year to this year in the Bears offense hopefully than DeAndre Swift. You have a premium running back coach in Eric Benemy. You have a much better offensive line. You have more talent everywhere on the field. You would think you have another You have a year of being with Chicago. You would think that Swift would take a major jump. And if he does, a perfect supplemental role can emerge for a guy like Kyle Manungai to run through. And and a great point. I wish we would only hear Coach Shaw’s answer to your question, Braggs. Just 700 plus touches and he never fumbled. Four years. That’s crazy. I mean, that’s unheard of. That’s real. So, I saw somebody in the chat here saying, “Use him in the red zone. He doesn’t fumble.” I can answer your the question that you were going to ask coach there, and I He would have said, “No, Greg. I have never seen anything like that. This guy literally goes and seeks contact, takes on three wouldbe tacklers and uh doesn’t fumble the football, gets extra yards. I’m absolutely in love with him and I think you Bears fans are going to be in love with him, too. What do you think about that, Hog? Well, I know Ashton Genty has fumbling problem. So, just like you know, we decided earlier in the show that Kyle Manunga is better than Tayvon Anderson. I think he’s better than Ashton Genty. Yes. And and one other thing about Kyle, this guy way better than Genty. Five people listening that actually take that seriously. I’ll hear from them. Yeah. Uh he uh apparently there’s some love of dancing that he has. And on Tuesday after practice, not just on his Saturday after a victory, on Tuesday after practice, he would be risen up the entire Ruters locker room. And what’s important about that, he was what? That’s a new That’s what the kids are saying today. You rez him up. Charisma. Riz. Riz. He had a lot of RZ. I’ve learned a lot this week. Yeah. What was the one we got earlier? Uh cap. Cap. I learned about cap. Yeah. Cap and they’ve been around for a while. Shout out back at Burnfield teaching me all these things. But uh I’m watching film and building spreadsheets that No one reads. Yeah. Nobody reads. Wow. Wow. Did you Did you see that? That was a shot. Not at me. Marsha, we’re just firing at Hog today. Way to go. Good job. Well, it was kind of him admitting he doesn’t read the spreadsheet. Well, we know I don’t. Well, we’re still work we’re working on lots of things up. I ask you to update the spreadsheet for me. I I updated it with your vacation. Can I Can I land Can I land the dancing plane? My point is this. Some of the greatest players in the history of the NFL took ballet. Think Emtt Smith. Think Jerry Rice. Many Smith Rice footwork. Bang. Bears. Super Bowl done. Quit talking like that. Now we can move it along. A bunch of people in the comments, by the way, saying you’re misusing rez there. Yeah, you did. I’m I’m not a a user of the word rez, but what does charisma have to do with amping people? RZ is like when you hit on somebody. Correct. Yeah, that’s your you’re you hitting them with your in the locker room, though. That’s an excellent point. It doesn’t completely It doesn’t completely translate, but the point is that it translates some. And just stick with the sum part of the translation and just know that we’re using the hip words on this show. That’s the important part. More importantly, a sniff arzner. Excellent. Full circle there. Hey, coming up next, Ryan Poles was on a power radio station in town. Um, and did an interview and we’re going to talk about that. But first, oh god, what a don’t ever do that again. What a transition. You don’t know what you’re going to get from me. I might in one moment I might be 75, the next I’ll be laughing at Karm breaking down film with what it smells like. A much better Karm, a Cleveland version of Karm, Ken Carman from uh 92. He’s an imposttor. 92.3 Karm. No, he’s the Karm. Uh he says today on their show, the Browns want to bring back Nick Chub. Uh they are trying hard to bring Nick back. I know this. The Bears are very serious about bringing him in and are trying to make this push. So, that’s interesting. And a great transition to Ryan Ples’s talking with Ken Hood this morning. Um because one of my biggest takeaways from that interview was that the Bears don’t seem to be in a hurry at all to add a running back. You got to kind of listen carefully. But there was one moment there where he gets asked about the running backs and he goes, “Well, we’d like to get these guys in the building first to see what we have on the field before we start talking about adding a running back.” Exactly. And that’s why when Greg gets a shiny toy, like a text from Gary Ross, he shouldn’t think before he Rosses. Well, that’s not Ross. That’s Ken Carman it on a Cleveland radio station. Right. But but so that’s not Gary reporting something. That’s Ken Carman reporting. But it’s the Gary text that put you into the situation. It was a good setup. It was a It was a brilliant job by Gary. But just Gary, just send Brags the text after the show. Um, no, it was a good setup. He said it was a good setup. It was a good setup. Ken Carman, you need to stop being a bad Karma. You just don’t like it because his name is Karm. That’s right. And there’s a chance that he could be a better Karm sports than you. I think in this case all this, but Ken Karman is like dead off to what Hog was just talking about. That’s not what Ryan P said at all today. Unless you think that PZ is lying on the radio, which is entirely possible. It’s possible that they they sign him in 5 seconds when the show’s over. Entirely possible emergency pod. You better pray. For which one? For Ken Carman’s sake. Actually, you know what? Carmen’s probably a long lost cousin. I should be rooting for him. Ken, maybe you’re right. Maybe Nick Chub’s going to be a bear, but it certainly didn’t seem like that by the interview. Look, I’m all for adding a running back if you think it’s necessary, but I don’t think you need to be in a rush. to add a running back who’s played in 10 games over the last two seasons with a surgically repaired knee that blew up in college back in the day. Like we forget that Nick Chub injury in college wasn’t great and it was the same knee and he’s only played 10 games the last couple years. To me that’s a if he’s still available in August and you have a need still in August, you go sign somebody like that. I liked hear I hope Ples was not lying in this interview. I liked hearing that. Get these guys in. Let’s see what we got. Let’s go through OTAAS. See what they all look like. How Eric Benemy can coach them up and then go from there. Make that make that if you really feel desperate for a running This was the decision you made by not using high draft capital on a running back. Now, let it play out. See what you got before you But if you used high draft capital, then you should play the dude. You didn’t use high draft capital. You are trying to win. And Nick Chub is leaping over tall buildings in a single bound on his in. That’s great. That has nothing to do with football. Well, it’s showing that he’s healthy. The Bears drafted a guy jumped out of a pool. Geron Gilbert. Great. I got news for you. These dudes are in the NFL. They can all do crazy things that we can’t. Not if you They can all do crazy things that we can look on Instagram and be like, “Wow, that’s amazing. Wish I could do that.” We can’t. But he had knee surgery and he’s showing that he’s healthy. It was interesting in the interview. Pulls it. Do you Do you pay attention to his Instagram? No, I do not. Which because it’s useless. There’s some use there. He looks healthy. I It’s at least It’s at least useful. I’ll bring him in. It’s like the Lonzo Ball video where he was getting up and out of his chair a few times. A little different. So, you put out videos with your knee surgery? No, I haven’t. Cuz the second surgery isn’t as going as well. Signing uh Never mind. I think there’s some alarming numbers with Nick Sharp, though. I know he was coming off the injury last season. He had just gotten back, but only 2.7 yards per carry after contact last season. That number sat around four the rest of his career. And then he only had five explosive runs of 10 or more yards. Uh little concerning there as well. Only 20 missed tackles forced. Once again, he didn’t play the full season, but he’s always hovering around the minimum 50 to 80. So, I mean, it’s I don’t know if he has a north south anymore or the east west. That That’s fine. Look, if he’s done, I get it. But looking at the Bears running back room like it’s complete makes me a little bit nervous. And I want to see Colin Lung guy play. I’m not arguing it’s complete. I I’m arguing I want to see these guys in the building and in practice before I go panic and spend. There’s Right now, the Bears don’t have a lot of cap space. Yeah, I’m not looking to spend a lot of money, but can we Some of these guys take money. Didn’t Elijah Moore get like $5 million yesterday. Who? We’ve We’ve done nothing in the league. I mean, this time of year, it seeming every year we signed somebody of the Deontay Foremanish for three million bucks. Where’s that guy? Those years, some of those years, we didn’t need it. This year, it feels like we actually do it. But he spoke very highly. What stood out to me is that he was very complimentary to Roshan in that interview. He’s not writing off the Roshan. I think he thinks that Roshan’s going to be able to lean into being the just the the physical back that they see him as with the re uh aligned coaching staff here. Well, he kind of hinted he was not used properly last year, which a lot of people were were saying at the time. He’s got about as much shimmy shake as the guy to my left. I’ll give you some shake with them fries. Yeah, you’ll throw down. That’s not what that means. There’s a lot of weird references in this show. All right. But okay. Do you think that Roshan Johnson that there’s something that we have not seen from Roshan that will emerge this year? Uh, I mean, he has every opportunity to show that, but no, I I think we kind of know who he is, right? Goal line back, you know, not even he can be a goal linebacker. You don’t even you don’t think he he does a lot of he does a lot of chop before he that stops his momentum. Then he doesn’t actually pick up the tough yards that you would think he would pick up. I don’t know. I may maybe maybe so shout out Eric Benemy for the fifth time on this show. Maybe he can help him. Well, I I look at Roshan Johnson as a as a backup and special teamer who has some traits that you would consider a like a blue level type player on special teams, you know, like stuff that you really want which is valuable enough to keep you on the roster. And then he has some traits that pro in the running game that probably top out more as like a solid starter traits. Not the whole package. I’m just saying he has a couple things here and there if used properly in the right situations that highlight those traits. And maybe some of them are goal line situations where this goes back to the mistake I think that was being made last year that confused a lot of people, not just us, but people in the organization. Why is this guy being used on first and second down when he should probably be your third down back? And I just think there’s a lot of people that sort of scratching their heads about that. And, you know, based on what we heard from the GM today, you know, he kind of made reference to that in the interview this morning. So, I I think it’s just about when you have players at that level, using them in the right spots to get the most out of them. And I don’t think that was the case with Roshan Johnson. There’s a long way of me saying like I still think Roshan Johnson has value, but I’m going to look at Kyle Manungai as a player who has the opportunity potentially to be more of a regular first and second down back beyond just being a third down back. And I saw somebody in the comments being like, “Well, didn’t you guys talk up Roshan Johnson the same way when he was drafted?” Well, here’s the reality. There was some of that going on. I was the guy being like, I think this guy’s a special teams dude who’s going to be able to help you out a little, you know, certain situations as a running back because I saw it. He got hyped up a lot because, oh, he’s playing behind Bjan Robinson. Yeah, but look at the film. There’s a big difference between the two backs when you turned on that Texas film, right? there was more of the unknown. Hey, what could he have done if Bejan wasn’t ahead of him that fans would lean on, I would lean on? And really ultimately, I mean, he’s a fourth round pick, so the Bears leaned on that too much, you know? I mean, if you’re h if you’re drafting a running back in the fourth fourth round, you’re hoping that he is more than just a special teams guy. And so far, but at the same time, I’ll say this much. Everybody on this team deserves an a fair evaluation with a team that has some health, you know, healthiness around it, you know, a good supporting cast, a good offensive line, a good play caller, and everybody seems to it’s it’s like we’re picking and choosing who gets the Shane Waldron excuse and who doesn’t. So, I think this year is time for everyone to get a fair evaluation and then we’re going to know what’s what. Yeah. Um, if you go back to that draft, Roshan was drafted 115 overall. He’s got 502 yards, which places him about 10th roughly. All right. 10th in what? In in total rushing yards from that draft. The leader is Bejian with 2432 followed by Jir Gibbs followed by Achain followed by Chase Brown drafted by the Bengals 163 overall. That is 48 picks after Roshan Johnson. That is not a win for Can you sort that by what order they were drafted in or No, I I’m just curious which So you mentioned earlier how Manungai was the 21st back taken. Yeah. What number was Roshan? Okay. In that class. That’s my question. I don’t know if it’s I I I can do that for you. Roshan. Oh, hold on. I got to do it by in a different way cuz if he ranks 10th in rushing among that class, but he was the 15th running back taken then that’s not bad. That’s actually pretty good. Roshan, I’ll give you the order. What? Robinson, Gibbs, Charbanet, Miller, Spears, Achain, Bsby, Roshan. So he was the eighth eighth eighth back taken and he’s 10th in rushing from that draft class, right? Taken after him with more yards. Brown Chase Brown and that’s it. That’s not At least he didn’t miss on 17 running backs. He just missed on one. I don’t It’s round pick. I mean that’s what these guys are. I understand. But look Herbert was a fifth round pick. No, sixth round pick. They got a they got him a couple good years out of him and they moved them on. You moved on from him. You know, I I would love if we could finally get to a point if if if Ryan Pulse could ascend to a point where like this dude is a draft guru. We ain’t there yet. That’s all I’m saying. Draft guru. We’re not there yet. He’s got to get there. I also think he does a pretty solid job though. He hasn’t done a bad job. Yeah. I mean, you look at I’ve brought I I’ve brought this up and I’m We can’t go down that road right now. Why not? We were going to do this yesterday. Okay, fine. Let’s go down the road. I mean, I think Howie Roseman has made his mistakes early on and then he’s Look at where he’s gotten to. So, I mean, Howie Roseman right now, he just won a Super Bowl. So, he’s, you know, where you want to meet, that’s where you want to get to. But, you know, he also made his fair share. He he didn’t draft Justin Jefferson. He drafted a different wide receiver that didn’t end that didn’t stay on the team very long. So like normally when a GM misses on something like that, they live with that forever. So let let’s let’s do this real quick. Okay, let’s do it. And let’s just keep it to fifth rounder better because sixth and seventh rounders, it’s all okay. It’s all a crapshoot. Good or bad, I’m not going to. So Okay. All right. 2022 Kyler Gooden. Kyle, good. I’m struggling with names today. I can’t I don’t know. I might be worried. Kyler Gordon, good or bad pick? Good. Jaquan Brisker, good or bad pick? We’ll go with good, but okay. It’s a good pick. It’s a wash. It’s okay. I mean, it’s not bad. It’s not fair to Jaquan Brisker because he’s a good player, but he’s not healthy. He had concussion. Let’s change this to just if it’s a bad pick or not. Kyler Gordon, bad pick. No. Jaquan Brisker. Bad pick. Yes. Had concussions. Has a mouth. He’s He’s never healthy. That’s not his That’s not Ryan Po’s fault. It is a little bit. Are we taking injuries out of it or not? Any player can end up with a bunch of concussions. Well, and not every player has. He had he had the history. I’m going to say bad. Okay. But the process of drafting Okay. Are we talking about the process of drafting or are we talking about the results after the fact now? Not the results after the fact. we’re talking about was a good process or bad process cuz Carr wants him to be a draft guru. Okay. I think if you’re if if you’re calling Jaquan Brisker a bad pick, it’s not fair. I mean, I think everyone’s going to say the same thing. The chat’s like So, so it’s I’d rather this exercise be how good or bad of a I’m not saying Jaquin versus bad player, but how good or bad of a pick is it because of where they’re at now? I’d rather do that exercise than the process. You could make an argument for every pick this year. We could make an argument that the process makes sense. You can rationalize process. We’ll take this year out of it. We’re talking two different things here though. I agree. Keep keep going after Brisco. Let’s give let’s just for for Hog’s sake right now for just for for his for the high points of his career sake. You guys are overthinking it because the next one’s easy. Veis Jones. Good or bad pick? Bad. Right. That’s what I’m asking. Where are the bad picks? Okay. So, there’s one. Keep going. Braxton Jones. Good. Good pick. Dominique Robinson. Bad. Badish. Yeah. I mean, it’s a he hasn’t worked. He’s done nothing. Bet is He’s done nothing. He’s done nothing. Yeah. You guys don’t understand, right? You’re talking about process. How bad. He’s talking about performance, dude. It No, I’m I’m He’s not talking about It’s bad. It’s It’s not a great pick. Okay. But so that draft class right there straight in the middle. They didn’t have a first round pick. They have the best nickel corner in the game, the highest paid nickel in the game from that draft class. And a and a left tackle who started every game until he got hurt last season. And I’ll remind you, your expectations are way too high for what the crap shoot of the draft is. And I’ll remind you, Karm, last year when we talked about this, I don’t see any Pro Bowl, not one Pro Bowler out of that draft. Well, exactly. Because that’s where I was going to call you out on is last year when we did this exercise, you weren’t as willing to say Kyler Gordon was a good player. You weren’t. You have an incredible memory. I’m impressed. I cuz we were talking. You say that because you were saying that I overrate players on the Bears and he was one of those people. Okay. Well, look, another way to look at it is you have you have five picks in the first five rounds there. That’s how I get caught. Three starters out of it and only one of them was a complete bust. Okay, it gives me I don’t think that’s a bad draft. I’m not I’m not calling it a bad draft. I’m not I’m just calling it All right, we go to the next year. I’m in the gray. Go ahead. Darnell, right? Good pick. Well, you’re going off a process. So, you’re going to say bad because of Jaylen Carter? No, you stop. You’re stop doing that. Just good or bad pick. Good. Good. Okay. Javon Dexter. Bad. Tyreek Stevenson. Good. Yes, he’s a starter in the second round. Okay. Gervon Dexter’s a starter. A starter in the second round is a good pick, guys. Is Javon Dexter a starter? No, but he was last year. Rotation. He lost his job. They have now signed and drafted a replacement. Okay. Zack Pickicket, bad. Roshan Johnson, bad. I disagree. has okay I mean Tyler Scott’s bad doesn’t play Roshan Johnson fourth round pick who’s a special teamer and gives you carries in the back field for a fourth round pick that is a good pick I won’t push back if that’s if that if that’s your expectation for a fourth round pick which is a fair expectation I will not push back that’s fine I I capitulate Hogue okay so this is another solid draft I’m not trying to argue These are outstanding drafts. I’m just trying to say that like it hasn’t been bad. Yeah. And I I’m not I am not argu I’m not arguing that polls shouldn’t be the GM because of his drafts. I’m arguing that his drafts have been in the middle, which I think as we go through it, it’s very clear they’re in the middle. See, I I I guess what where I’m coming at it from is I think you’re the middle I how do I say this? I don’t think it’s in the middle. I think it’s actually in the upper half. So, you think because I think most drafts end up being disappointing in hindsight. If you look, if you take all 32 teams, I I think that this has been better than most. I mean, if you just go recent history, Pat, just if we go back to the Pace era, David Montgomery, that’s a hell of a pick as a third round pick. That’s a great pick, right? If you go the year after that, was it? He didn’t get a second contract. He should have. They just blew it. I mean, that that that’s a that’s a good third round pick. Cole KT, Jaylen Johnson, those are freaking big- time picks. Darnell Mooney was a fifth round pick there. They, you know, we didn’t we didn’t figure it out. Um, I don’t know. It’s But if you’re arguing for where are the Pro Bowlers, we’ve only named one and it was Jaylen Johnson. Yeah. And that pays guest credit for that, right? But I my point is a lot of the other players you just named there were are the same as Kyler Gordon. They’re the same as Braxton Jones in the fifth is the same as Darnell Mooney in the fifth. It’s the same thing. I mean, Darnell Mooney’s had a thousand yard receiving season, but okay. All right. He had a season two years ago where he was he was a ghost. Well, he got hurt and now he’s back. All right. Last year’s draft, Caleb Williams, good or bad pick? Good. Roman Dunay, good or bad pick? Good. Karani, see, you’re doing it. This is what you did last year. See right there? This is the same thing you did for Kyler Gordon last year. You laughed and scoffed at the idea because the offensive rookie of the year was picked after Caleb. Can we I mean, so they’re only good players after the fact and once you see the result cuz you’re the king of predictions. So I bet you you weren’t saying Darnell Mooney was a great player before he had a good year in Atlanta cuz I know how your mind works. So you weren’t pounding the table. I’m I’m in a I’m in a brag zone right now. It’s the truth. You’re the king of predictions. So if I say Caleb and Rome are good picks and you laugh at it, it’s only because you want you want to see it. Well, but but we’re talking right now. Karm did correctly predict Darnell Mooney would have more receiving yards than Roma Dunay last season. Okay. So he one’s a rookie, one’s in his predicted a good year. Okay. I said once he got away from the debacle that is the Bears offense and and everything that was going on. So everybody’s a good player. Just get him away from the Bears. I’m not saying that. That’s what you said about that. No, I just thought that he was in a horrible offense and he was massively frustrated and I knew he had a chip on his should last year’s Bears offense was so great. He The point was that with with Mooney, I knew I knew leaving out of Chicago that he had a chip on his shoulder that went to the moon. And I thought that if he got healthy with a more functioning offense that he would put up good numbers and he did. That wasn’t some huge big leap. All right. And this whole Yeah, that’s fine. Go ahead. It’s clear I’m confused by this exercise because that it was also who’s a starter if it’s a good pick. They’re both starters. So I’m just confused here at this point. That’s clear as day. Karan Maji. Bad. Bad pick. Yes. What if he turns into the swing tackle and is a good swing tackle? That’d be great. That’s good. But if we’re talking about right now, one year in, didn’t get on the field at all, that’s not a good job for a third round pick. I I guess my it’s these are you can’t we can’t do this year’s draft. We can’t do last year’s draft. There’s too much window going forward. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12. ign 13 14 16 17 18 I got 18 picks and I’m not even counting this past draft that happened last week. 18 picks for the PSA’s first three drafts that were in the top five rounds. I got two buss Vis Zack Pickkins actually three because I think even though I like him I think uh can we uh what’s his face? Tyler Scott’s probably on his way out and maybe Noah Su. Can we read Rex Smith’s comment and I I’m wondering if if we can just agree with this not the last one the one before that polls as an average drafter. But the nice way to put is the jury is still out on him. Does anybody have an argument with that? Nope. I mean, obviously everything comes down to Caleb. The jury is Look, if Caleb becomes great and Rome is great, but then do you not give him credit and Karan becomes a swing tackle and Luther Burton’s catching balls all over the place and Coloulston Lovelin becomes a top 10 tight end. All hail King Poles. All h the all I’m saying is to this point he’s at best average. You’re saying he’s better than average. That’s fine. K saying he’s a tick. I think it’s been a tick above. I don’t think drafting’s been a major problem, I guess, is my point. What do you think? And where I lean into the Karm world here is then it needs to show. And I understand the coaching staff hasn’t been good the last few years, but they lost 10 games in a row last year. So, we can say it’s been above average, but you know, at some point they got to show it. And in the interview, by the way, he was asked like, “How close to 100 are you if you got this thing at zero?” And like it was said it with a very enthusiastic cap way. And he’s like, “Well, I mean, yeah, I feel a whole lot better, but we got to win some games. They got to they got I mean, you can talk about they they they’ve got to turn the corner as far as being a below 500 football team. Not even talking about Super Bowls.” I got one more point on this, but first, okay, scan that QR code, become a CO die hard. Um, a lot of great content up there still from the draft. Lot more coming your way. In fact, part of what we’re doing here. I’m going to start working on roster tiers. Um, and that’ll be a big piece coming out soonish for Die Hards. A lot of great stuff up there. And you also get 20% off all merch, all events, lots of great things. And I don’t know if you’re not a die hard yet, you’re just you’re doing life wrong. How about that? Um, you sort of just glossed over a major part of this though. What percentage of draft picks come in and need no coaching to be good? Yeah, I agree. Everybody deserves right. No, everybody 100%. the guys who end up in the Hall of Fame, you could argue most of those guys maybe could have ended up anywhere and just been great. But I think even most of those Hall of Famers would tell you, I had this coach or I had this coach or I had this coach that helped me. So for for us to be like just gloss, yeah, I know the coaching has a big great that’s a big freaking deal. It is a big It is a big deal. These guys need to be developed and the development has been subpar. Well, that that’s another thing that was in the interview today that I that I thought you could just subtly go by. He said that he is absolutely thrilled by the amount of Chicago Bears who are working out right now that 90 I think he said 99% of the team is here and that Montes Sweat is having the greatest off season of all time. So it’s not just I mean you can put it in development like hey you know stick your foot in the ground this way put your hands there but it’s also which falls under accountability I don’t want to get under development but there’s an accountability that is in the building right now that has been I guess missing because it like I’m hearing that like how was this not happening before? Well you didn’t have the culture set up. This was not the expectation. And now with a new guy in here with a ton of competition that they’re trying to create, dudes apparently are stepping up their games, which is a great thing for the Bears. I’m not arguing it’s not a great thing. You think little bit of revisionist history, though. I think we’ve heard these stories the last few years anyway. Everybody’s in the building. Turns out not not everybody was. I I had the same thought, too. Like, but I I think I think to your point, it’s not I’m not arguing it’s a bad thing. Obviously, it’s good. But anytime you have a new coaching staff, it’s going to be there’s going to be a little bit more of an uptick in attendance and tryh hard because everybody feels like I got to impress this new coach. I got to impress my new position coach. But that’s all good. Yeah, it’s it’s a problem if they’re not feeling that. So, I hope Ben Johnson and his coaching staff is making them feel that way, right? You got to feel that way, right? So, let’s not overcredit the coaching staff yet just because people are worried about their jobs. I got it. That’s fair. Um, all right. It’s kind of a karmic right there by you, Hog. I love you. I love you, too. See, there you go. Greg, I love you, too. Greg blacked out when I said that. Greg, what are you doing over there right now? What? What? What? Where’d your brain go? Well, my brain went to And this is where I know I’ll probably get killed for it, but nice. Don’t worry about Chim. We can move on. We can move on. It’s no big deal. Oh, get killed. No, I because you said, you know, the coaching staff it was a big deal. Well, Shane Waldron was an offensive coordinator for a team that made the playoffs just a couple years ago. And I understand Shane Waldron was a terrible coach last year who didn’t script the first 15 plays and didn’t know how to develop Cayla Williams. But Gino Smith did get developed under Shane Waldron. Did take a step back. You might get killed for this one. I understand. I understand. But like we we act like they were a bad coaching staff. Matt Everloose was a bad coach. Shane Waldron was a bad OC. But they understand football too. Like I thought people like the way it got taken too far. It didn’t mix well. It didn’t fit right. But like to act like the players hold no respon. This is what pissed me off about last year. The players hold no responsibility towards any of the failures. And if they take that attitude into this year that Ben Johnson is just gonna fix everything and they hold no accountability to any of it, then I am gonna get pissed off. They have to start taking some personal accountability towards the failures of last year. The 10-game losing streak was not just on the coaching staff. The players also have to hold some kind of level of responsibility to it. That’s all I mean by it. Well, there was that was another point, too. Hey, did you feel like because of the Washington game uh the Hail Mary that you know if that hadn’t happened you guys would have been a who knows 8 n 10 win team dude if you’re an 8 n 10 win team you don’t let one hail Mary end your season and now they lost a lot of other really close every team can be an 8 n win team with some rare exceptions it’s the NFL there’s parody exactly right that’s not something to be excited about in fact that’s further their argument that the Hail Mary was the best thing that ever happened to this organization. Exactly. Right. As painful as it was, force you to reassess. They could have they could have exactly squeezed that out and then we’d have Matt Eberfloose here on an extension. I think they should give Tyreek Stevenson an extension right now. You’re you’re you’re absolutely right. You’re absolutely right. If that play doesn’t happen, we might still be talking about Matt Eberloose going into year four and and beyond. And Ben Johnson’s coaching the Raiders or Right. Right. the Patriots. Greatest thing that ever happened in this franchise in the last 40 years after the Super Bowl is the Hail Mary. There’s the take. Yeah. Uh, Pisatola starting off our super chats here. $5. He says, “Hog, as usual, I agree with everything you’re saying.” Um, with the good pick, bad pick exercise. You just can’t include Karm if you want intelligent combo. Oh, there’s a back in full force. Way to go. I’m impressed. I really was the one that had no idea how to do that exercise. Perfect. You just keep saying you didn’t know how to do it, but you really did. You were you you you did it. It was a struggle. It was hurting. I think you did. No, I didn’t. You had no idea. I did it. Okay. It was very challenging for me. Chubs $5. I’m really I’m really starting to like this running back. Uh another five from Chubbs. I think he’s going to be what Williams was for Detroit and score like 20 touchdowns. I did see Tim Richell’s in the chat going, “Oh, now you’re talking about Montgomery. You want to be like us. You guys, you realize you Lions fans that you got Montgomery from the Bears, idiot. Brenon Henderson. $5. Do you think we’ll we’d see any meaningful production from a nung guy this year if the Bears do in fact sign Chub? No. Correct. Good point. That’s why I don’t think they need him yet. Wait till August. See what you really need. might not be there in August and then you’re going to get get stuck with bringing back the hurt running back who played 10 games last two years. Not available. Look, if you want to bring back Deontay Foreman for the second time or who’s the other guy that we bring back, Darington Evans for the 28th time, that those that’ll be your option at some point, which is fine. I like Darington, by the way. My guy Darington always trade for one. It’s fine. Okay, give up draft capital for one. This guy’s just sitting here jumping over boxes and buildings and cars. You love that workout video. Karm’s whole team would just be Instagram influencers. You do love that workout video. I mean, it’s impressive, but you really love it. I just don’t think the running back room is complete. And if this guy wants to come here for for next to nothing, I would I’ll sign off on that. That’s fine. I mean, I I’d rather them bring in a defensive end. It’s not like now we’re talking trench drunk. That’s fine, too. Look, I’m optimistic that Kyle Manungai will be a functional player in the NFL, but I don’t like that skill set. He’s not going to be elite. I’m not afraid of like No one’s saying he’s going to be elite. I understand that, but I’m not worried. I want him to pick up the five yards. We need five yards. That’s fine. I want him in the goal line to score the touchdown. So, we don’t have to run a uh an option speed option to the guy who runs out of bounds 12 yards. I got it. I’m just not worried about stealing carries from somebody that whose ceiling is that he he can get them when we need him. If if Chub is healthy and can get it done, that I think that gives you a little bit more stability overall. Uh what’s the next one here? Oh, Chubs. More Chubbs. Chubs is just Chubs in today. A lot of you said Chub a lot on this show. Have I Nick Chub just everybody Chubs? There’s four more Chubbs. Everybody should be looking at Johnson as cut. Full job tonight. He’s not a backup running back to a championship team then. Cut. Uh, another $5. He hasn’t drafted one Pro Bowler. The idea is to draft an allp pro every year. At least one. Well, yeah, but who’s done that in the history of the NFL? Averaged a Pro Bowler a season? I mean, but zero pro bowlers though speaks to matters. Yeah. Speaks to why he’s hasn’t average is probably as far as you can go with it. Above average, you got to have one pro bowler. I’m not I’m not arguing. I’m not trying to say that he’s like top five draft GM in the league. I like Ryan Poles a lot. I just I think Karm’s being a little hard on him. That’s all. I think I mean fair and not hard at If I was being hard, I I would underline everyone that went after the picks that we did. But I’m not doing that because this is because it’s May the 1st. And you could do that with every GM, though. I could, but it’s holds more weight when you’re talking about a GM that, and I get it, they had to tear it down, but there’s some circumstances where that’s where that’s Adam better than others. Like Adam, he’s you didn’t draft Mahomes. You drafted Jbisky. That would be a good example of that. You went with Adam Shaheen instead of George KD. That would be a good example of that. You don’t think that Jaden Daniels is a a relative? I think you’re way too soon on making Yes. I think you’re way too soon. Look Look, I’m not saying it’s not a conversation. I’m also Listen, I’m not saying Yeah, but to be fair, you could do that with every draft of who they could have gotten after a pick. That’s what he just said, right? But look look look look they they have I think that Listen, Ryan Polls comes across to me as an intelligent, balanced, moving forward, reasonable human being. All I’m saying is that he hasn’t yet hit draft guru. And look, it’s three years. They’ve averaged five wins a year. I get that there’s a tear down in there and then a and then a buildup and then then a then a disaster, but they’ve averaged five wins a year. That dude has some work to do. I mean, come on. Clayton Stalker, that’s fair. $20. Off topic is ignoring Karan based on any intel with coaches or actual intel. Azie 17 picks earlier has to play, but maybe a prototypical size athletic tackle pick 72 could actually be in competition for left tackle in year two. I don’t think anybody’s ignoring Gar. No, but is that what he’s saying? He’s he’s saying that he’s ignoring the the miss. I think that’s how he’s saying it. Look, they they drafted a developmental tackle in third round. I think he’s talking about ignoring him as an as an option to actually start at left tackle. He’s in there. He’s in the mix. That’s fair if that’s what you’re saying. Sorry, Clay. I think we kind of misunderstand the question, but if it’s about what I was saying, I don’t think anybody’s ignoring Karan. My my personal opinion though, I do I do think he’s the prototypical size athletic tackle. I think he needs at least another year of development before we’re talking about him being a realistic guy to start 17 games. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong this year. But I think asking him to start week one of this season is just a big ask. I agree. Paul’s talked about like some of these guys not yet, but they might their role could be swing tackle. I would I think if if Karan can get to that point from where he started to that would be a good thing. It does amaze me though that you you just you learned nothing from the CJ Strad situation. You just rewinded now cuz it just popped back in my head. You’ve been through this recently. You had CJ in the Hall of Fame. You you you had CJ Strad. You guys are acting like you had a bad year last year. It wasn’t a bad year. He just wasn’t one of the top three quarterbacks. But to the point I’m trying to make, if you’re in Carolina and Houston right now, the Bryce Young versus CJ Strad conversation is completely different than it was the year prior, which is my point with Caleb and Jaden Daniels. Right. But we’re doing an evaluation right now. You are, right? Well, we but we all are, but we’re we’re all moving around to try to make the argument fit to our like you did with Darnell Mooney. Well, you said Darnell. This this this Mooney memory brought to my Mooney memory. You just said it a second ago that you were excusing his production in Chicago cuz it was a terrible place. But you’re not doing it for other people in Chicago currently. You just did a sec. You just said that like 10 minutes ago. I don’t know why you’re holding your head. You just said that. Okay. But I’m going to restate my Mooney comment. Mooney was hurt. Mooney and Mooney was used improperly. Mooney had put up a thousand yard season in Chicago. He had shown what he could do. So, I was betting that that dude with that level of ability to catch the football and and his speed and elusiveness that they did not use him right in his LA there was a lot of factors that went into me believing that he would be successful elsewhere. So, you’re saying and he could have been successful here if they kept him. Right. Right. So, give credit to the Falcons, man. They paid him. A lot of people thought that they completely overpaid. They they actually got a steal. There was not a lot of people lining up to do that. The Falcons did. Shout out to Darnell. He had more catches over he he had whatever the category they put it in, 15 yard plus catches. He was second in the NFL last year. The guy had a phenomenal season. He’s a very Would you rather have Darno Mooney on that contract or drafting Luther Birdie? Because I don’t even know why we’re having this conversation. Well, because he’s we’re comparing it to Caleb versus Jaden in that talking about situations and he’s not giving Caleb any benefit of the doubt situation. And you’re saying because Darnell showed he was a good player. And then I guess my next question would be did Caleb not show anything to you last year? That No, of course he did. Of course. Listen, well, I was going against him. 3,500 yards. I he his numbers, if you look strictly at the numbers and his performance for a rookie quarterback, even taking number one overall, were no worse than fine. He was more he was while he was standing in a burning building the entire season. All of that. Yes. I’m not was on fire. He was literally everything to think to everything we’ve said about Caleb. He has a lot going for him this year. So, how let’s see let let’s I hope he gets there. Let’s see what happens. Chubs going through it today. Three straight super chats even after having like three other ones saying $5 super chat. We got three straight $5 super chats from Chubs. Appreciate you, Chubs. Being a starter doesn’t mean you’re a good pick on a team. That’s not winning any games with two 10game losing streaks. He follows that up by saying, “True, they they are only good players if they prove it on the field with results. Otherwise, they’re bad picks starting or not. Then he finally says, “Rose colored glasses on Adam today. How can you say any of these selections are good on how terrible the team has been? The starters stink, too. Sounds like you need to go to lunch with Chubbs.” Yeah. 0% chance that has happened. What? Zero? Come on. Chubs a good dude. He’ll come right over here and you can go to the He came to our tailgate. 0% chance. Huh? Is he buying? Chubs, are you buy Chubs? Of course he’s buying. He’s paying for every super chat, guys. Keeping us in business. Look at that. He just bought He just bought lunch with super chats. Okay, I will take it. Eat by myself. Guy Guy Finley now shooting arrows at Karm. Uh only $5 super chat. Only Karm could bring up Mooney when we have DJ Rome and Luther Burton. Karm, the past is for cowards and losers. Da coach said that once upon a time. He did say he did spell that wrong, but I generally irrelevant what Guy Finley just said, but I love Guy Finley, my guy. Five more dollars from Guy Finley. Second year, Mahomes won his first title at 1400 yards for his career. Then they won two more with a seventh rounder pick. Stop the running back. Insanity. Okay. Hey, maybe he’ll be the next next. Well, I made that point the other day though, guy. If you have Patrick Mahomes, you you don’t need a great running back. If you don’t have Patrick Mahomes and you want to beat Patrick Mahomes, you need Saquon Barkley. What do you say to that guy? I love Guy Finley. If we’re talking about winning Super Bowls, for the record, if I was an NFL team, I would hire Guy Finley and put him in my front office. That dude knows his stuff. Finley be a good hireer. Chub’s not so sure. Clayton stalker $10. Azie could move or right could move for Azie is all I hear. Can Karan not out outperform Azie? Whatever that position is, round two versus round three pressure or film is that bad from year one. Any reports I missed? Clayton Ryan Paul’s has been very clear about this. They’re going to compete. If I had to bet who’s going to start at left tackle week one, I would bet on Braxton Jones. Guys, been there and done that. That would be my bet right now. I don’t think it’ll be Aussie. I don’t think it’ll be Karan, but they’re all going to compete. Yeah, that’s I mean, who would you bet on? Uh, lay it on the line, Hogue. If if he’s if he returns from training camp healthy, I would I would agree with you. Braxton Jones. That’s just a big if, though. Yeah, I’m going to bet that Braxton finds his way to health. Let’s go, Braxton. Okay, if he’s not healthy though, who are you betting? Did we? So, what was the clarity with poles and the tackle situation on? There really wasn’t any clarity other than they’re going to let they’re going to look at Azia on the left side first, which I think is the correct way. And they don’t and they don’t want to be jumping guys all over the place during training camp. So, how they started is how they want to finish it. So, if I’m betting Yeah. I’m saying Azie Trapillo will be the starting left tackle. He gets a three-month head start. You’re saying even if Braxton is healthy or you saying if correct he’s he gets a start mini camp starts next week. OTAA’s in a couple weeks. Braxton’s going to be limited to start training camp. I think Azie Trapillo will be the starting left tackle. Okay. Come week one. Friendly wager. That’s fine. Lunch. Lunch. Great. Week one. Who do you got? Great end of the show here. The suspense is killing me. Who do you got Braxton? He said that with a question mark. Okay, I did. You did because I don’t know. That’s why we keep talking about it. It’s fascinating, right? Because But it’s it’s Well, it’s fascinating. It’s also terrifying if this thing falls apart because the left tackle falls apart. That would suck. Highest ceiling between Azie, Karan, and Braxton. The answer is Karan. Agreed. The highest floor is Azie. The biggest unknown is Braxton and Aussiey’s a second round pick. That’s why it’s confusing. Second round pick should play. You are right with the injury question that that I guess Trapillo has a higher floor than Braxton. That’s why the whole thing is scary because you have no idea what that floor is. I think, see, I think Azie at left tackle is kind of what you already have in Braxton Jones, right? If he plays right tackle, I think he could be what Darnell Wright’s already been. Well, so you’re very high on Trapillo at right tackle. I like what I’ve seen. Okay. But the thing is, we want Darnell. I’m saying he could be what Darnell’s already been. We all want Darnell to be higher. That’s why there’s questions about, you know, he’s doing a press conference about where he’s getting peppered with questions about Pen Su. That might be a little too high, but he was a top 10 pick, that’s not unreasonable. So the question I think is the reason why this keeps happening is if you can raise that if you can get what you’ve already gotten out of Darnell right at right tackle from Azie Chillo and move your blue chip guy possible future blue chip guy he’s not there yet over to left isn’t your whole offensive line better the answer is yes to that question yes the answer is the answer is yes I thought it was a rhetorical question it But that is not a guarantee by any means. In fact, it carries a lot of risk. That’s why this whole thing is fascinating to look at. And it should be fun. We’re doing the anti-hog podcast right now. Why? Because it is the off season. We’re going 90 minutes and and that is an anti-hog. Are we done with It is Are we done with Super? We got two more. Two more. Ste already moved on to his next meeting, which I don’t blame him for. Steven just left. We’re just gonna Jake, we’re gonna sit here till tomorrow because because Bears, we could we’re going to sit here until tomorrow until we do a good show. Ch $2. Until this becomes entertaining, we’re not leaving. Well, we’re definitely not putting the first segment in the Hall of Fame. I think that actually should be. And again, if you need a transcript for that interview, email me. the karma at all.com. If you need a transcript for those are the transcripts that John’s volunteers for at hell. If you need a transcript for 90 seconds, I’ll do it if you want. For the record, I booked the amazing high school coach this week and Braggs booked whatever that was. That’s not fair. It’s totally fair. Hell if I had asked the Purdue University. No, I’m kidding. That’s true. They tried. They tried. Uh when he popped when he popped up, can I get through the supers? Oh, no. We’re done. Yes. Go ahead. Chubs 82. $2. Adam spent like 30 minutes talking to my son. Yeah, at the tailgate. Tailgate. Yeah. Now you won’t go to lunch with him. I’m joking. They’re going to lunch tomorrow. I already booked them. Open table that you’re in. Lifetime. Lifetime. Midtown, buddy. Come on over. Clayton stalker $5 super chat. This is the first time I actually believe Bears coaching staff when they say there’s no depth chart. Well, somewhat. Y’all believe there’s no depth chart. I don’t believe that at all. That’s a That is a That is a straight lie. Of course, there’s a depth chart. There’s not a depth chart they’re sharing with the team. There’s a depth chart. We’re going to be literal. They know damn well that Jaylen Johnson is starting at quarterback and everything else they know. I don’t know. Maybe uh maybe Al Harris will pull a flu and bench him in May. That was a good idea. Although it might have actually paid off. Shout out to Floose. It actually helped. There’s a couple things flares. In fact, you remember that development Harris? Remember the development thing we were talking about earlier? How there was no development? That was probably actually unfair to Flouse. I mean, if there was one thing that guy did, Kyler Gordon. Floose was Kellen Johnson. Johnson has turned into an allp pro under his watch. Floose is to Jaylen Johnson as Tibs is to Jimmy Butler whether he knows it or not. How do you like that? He does not know it. You know what I do like is that the Lakers Lakers are out of That was so much fun. I can’t even I wish we could talk about that for seven hours. Artic $5. Karm, don’t listen to anyone. If you want to doubt polls, trades, drafts, do it. Be the voice of reason. pulls his team suck so far till proven otherwise. See, that’s harsh. Antonio is still a work in progress. Antonio $5. If the coach is who we think he is, this running back room is okay for a year. Side notes. Karm be stressing me out. Don’t be stressed out, Antonio. We got this. Stresses me out, too, Antonio. More than that. Go back. Pisses me off. There you go. You ever do that side byside comparison on my hair three years ago? What about it? But it wasn’t gray. Can uh it’s really only the front. Like if you look to the side, it looks less gray. And then in the front, we’re we’re doing a show tomorrow. You’re you’re you are I think at least 17 gray hairs more by the end of this show in the in the last 86 minutes and 11 seconds. I I’d like to end the show with a with a with a fun uh oh brilliant take that no one’s come up with and it has to do with our friend Bill Bich. You are obsessed with it. I am. We were done with it then. No, I just I just think I just think it’s something important for everybody to consider on the way out here. We’re waiting. Are you gonna say it because I’d like the show to end? Yeah. Uh, look, if you talk about the greatest accomplishments in Bill Bich’s life, six Super Bowls, I mean, that’s great. But to be that guy, 70 plus years old with a golf ball coming off his neck and whatever else going on there, wearing sweatshirts that he just has been in his closet for 38 years to be living the life that he’s living right now, as creepy and as weird as it is, that’s his greatest accomplishment. I’m sorry. That’s better than anything he ever did on the football field. Seriously, that is iconic. That is Hall of Fame worthy. and congratul and that’s something that has not been talked about in this story that this is the most bizarre thing that’s ever happened. Nobody would have bet on that and he completely shocked the world. I mean I got to actually hand it to Karm here. Uh he just gave us a great hook short to end this show that I don’t know we had one before. So that not sure I want that out there in a hook short fashion but maybe I do. I mean, seriously, that is preposterously off the board. And somehow that happened for that guy with I don’t know. His personality is a little bit better off the football field, but does anybody like his personal How did he do this? It’s amazing. All right. Somehow he did. Hit the like button, hit subscribe, rate, and review the pod. We appreciate you. Shout out to Devin Hester. Two bucks from Crystal. Karm bad takes today. Love you, team Hog today. Thank you, Crystal. I just told the entire softball team that you’re that you’re the the key to the team, Crystal. That has nothing to do with your bad takes today. Just know that I That’s fine. Good take, Crystal. You’re allowed to have your opinions. It’s our catcher. I thought your takes were fine. I thought my takes were elite [ __ ] Oh, yeah. That’s Well, it’s after the TV. You still can’t say it. Oh, my bad. It’s a professional show. Okay, now you can end it. Yeah. All right. Uh, noon tomorrow. Adam Rank will join us. Uh, it’s Friday. It’s fun. Fun Friday. Can’t wait. We’re without Stephen, so it’s frightening. No, Stephen. No, Steven. Doing the Milwaukee trip on Saturday. Oh, nice. Tickets still available for Milwaukee. Couple tickets left still left. will take us to the left. Go to allcow.com/event. Uh we’ll see you tomorrow at noon. Goodbye. [Music] [Applause] [Music]

Carms giving me a fucking headache!
Carms giving me a fucking headache!
Let's GO!!!! Kyle IS a blessing in disguise!!!! Maybe, just maybe, he was ANOTHER match made in heaven (like Colston LOVELAND)!!
Wow carm just needs to be off this damn show. Like for real. He is just terrible and hates on absolutely everything and provides nothing good to this show
Is it just me, or does Kyle use his left arm sometimes to help him change direction?
This running back is thick 6 foot tall and close to 230lbs. We need a bruiser RB
Braggs being a little more obnoxious than usual.
I know you guys didn't agree on everything this episode but this was legitimately a great conversation on Poles draft picks since he's arrived. Definitely nuanced. I'm in the opinion he's done a solid job but definitely some head scratching moves. Velus Jones being the poster child of questionable moves. Above all else he's had Matt Eberflus and terrible OCs developing draft picks. Don't want to absolve Poles' mistakes but having good staff is paramount.
“Burst”…”Press the Hole”….”Allot of Burst”…. Nevermind 😅
Hoge is way too lenient on his draft grades. The process is not as important as the results. If it isn't poles' fault then whos is it? His job isnt to get the best draft grades, it's to try and predict what will make the bears the best football team.
You grade the process when the gm is new and you don't have the benefit of the results. We are long past the point of grading the process. The grades are in and we aren't reading the report card when we evaluate like this
Also, poles doesn't get a pass because the coaching sucked. He is the gm. He hired him. Then he kept him when everyone knew he needed to go. Way too many excuses for a team that hasn't won jack shit since poles has arrived, imo
Carms just want mog to be jamire Gibbs we don't even know what he can do get them in the building first that's the problem devoping your players so quick to dump these guys let's see what this new coaching staff can do
U guys actually showing screenshots lmao
Watch this guy. I think that he will surprize everyone and will have a great career. Keep in mind that he rushed for 1200+ yards the past two seasons. NO FUMBLES! His height and weight are about the same as Walter Payton. His 40-yard time also similar to Payton's. Monangai played for a weak offense. Opposing teams all knew that he was going to get the ball, stacked the box, and Monangai rushed for 1200 yards anyway. Watch his tape. Unlike a lot of RBs, he doesn't run out of bounds. Similar the Payton, he drops his shoulder and makes his opponent pay for tackling him.
Jeff Saturday shows this RB on his "Pancake hits" on his shoe & this RB has been on it multiple times. As a blocker, he trucks over DE, DT, LB & CB. U see him hitting a blitzed so hard the defensive player gets hit so hard, that he is driven back 4 yards on his back. It's a play that when u watch it, your like dam, I felt that just watching it. A very great blocker & a good RB. Hope to c it with the Bears this season
Poles is a Genius when it comes to the books!
If that's the case then Micah Parsons would b a bad pick? Nick Chubb bad pick? Judon bad pick? Leven Bell bad pick? Just to name a few, so I dont agree with the 2 of u on this subject. Also Brisker was a great pick & he did a great job, but u can't c into the future if someone will get hurt. So again when healthy Brisker is a beast
Gregory, everyone here that says u r a hater & have nothing to add on this show r correct. U shouldn't even b on this show & I think u r a secret Green Bay Fan!!! Such an idiot
Carm…Caleb put up numbers close to the same as JD with JD in a good situation and Calegb in s SH*t show situation. Caleb….Good pick
yall jinxing him. 1 st carry gonna be a fumble . good job fellas lol
I think Carm is annoying and should understand if R Johnson was used wrong and the oline was terrible, everybody was bad pick then except for j. Johnson.

braggs is so lost and carm is covering the wrong team xD
Carm as a personality piece: A+
Carm speaking football: F
