LA Kings outlast Oilers for Game 1 win!
A wild game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs, but all’s well that ends well. Details on an eventful opening game of the Stanley Cup playoffs for the LA Kings on this edition of Locked on LA Kings. The LA Kings played game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Edmonton Oilers for a fourth straight year. But unlike those previous three meetings, all won by Edmonton, this time LA had home ice advantage. Not just that, but the Kings were also the best home team in the NHL this season. 41 games on home ice, a franchise record, 31 wins in those games, plus an 11-1 record against the top three teams in each division. All playoff teams meaning the best of the best in the NHL. As far as the Kings lineup in this one, uh it would be a familiar one and a very healthy one for the LA Kings. Top line of Andre Kopitar centering Andre Kuseno and Adrien Kempe. Philip Deno on the second line with Warren Fogle and Trevor Moore who was Quinton Biffield on the third line with Kevin Fiao and Alex Aferier. And on the fourth line Samuel Helenius with Jeff Malot and Alex Turkot. No Tanner Jano as he still is out with the injury. As far as the defensive pairings, we’d have Mikey Anderson, Drew Dowy, Vlatisov, Gabriava, Jordan Spence with Joel Edmonson and Brandt Clark. The goalie was Darcy Keer and David Riddick served as the backup. As for the Edmonton Oilers starting lineup, some players we’re going to need to get familiar with as the series goes along. Top line centered by Conor McDavid with Zack Heyman and Connor Brown. A second line of Leon Dryidle with Basili Pod Coulson and Victor Arbertson, the former king. Third line of Ryan Nan Hopkins with Jeff Skinner and Trent Frederick. A fourth line of Adam Henrique centering with TS Yenmark and Cory Perry. Noah Vander Kane in this one. He’s missed the entire season with an injury. There was some talk maybe he could be available for the postseason, but certainly uh not for game one of this matchup. As far as the defensive pairings, the top pairing for the Oilers would be Darnell Nurse Boo and Evan Buchard, Jake Waldman with Tai Emerson, and Brent Kulak with Josh Brown. No, Matias Ekholm, their top defensive defenseman, is out for the entire first round at least. Stuart Skinner would be the starter in net and Calvin Pickard would serve as the backup. Big question going into this game for me. I guess it was multiple questions if I’m being honest, but the big question was would the Kings use home ice advantage to get a big game win and start the series off on the right foot? Also, would the Kings at least keep the special teams even? And would the Kings be able to contain Conor McDavid and Leon Dryidle, the Oilers two superstars? Well, as for the game summary in this and the scoring, LA got off to a great start. A two nothing lead after one period. The Kings get a power play goal to open up the scoring early from Andre Ksmeo and an even strength goal from Quinton Biffield. Again, great start for the Kings. Second period, more from LA as Adrien Kempe and Philip Deno would score. Kings had a four- nothing lead before the Oilers broke out broke the shutout uh with star Leon Drytle scoring with just 6 seconds left in the second period. In the third, Edmonton would make it 4-2. Kevin Fio would score the King’s second power play goal of the game for a 5-2 LA lead. But the Oilers would not die. Three straight goals, tying the game. Conor McDavid would score with a minute 28 left in regulation to tie it. Two of those goals came with the goalender pulled for the extra attacker for the Oilers. But Philip Deno would score his second goal of the night with just 42 seconds remaining in regulation. And the Kings pull out a 65 victory to lead the best of seven series one game to nothing. For the Kings, it was their 32nd home win in 42 home games this season. As for the game stats in this one, uh the Kings win at 65, shots on goal, favoring LA 30 to 25. As for the special teams, the Kings two for five on the power play, while the Oilers were 0 for two. A little bit misleading there. We’ll discuss why in a minute. Some yes and no on that. A faceoffs were in favor of the Oilers 3431. Hits favored the Oilers 42-30. A lot of hitting going on and in block shots were even at 14 apiece. So what was not so good for the Kings from a team standpoint? Well, the Kings certainly had opportunities to keep the Oilers from getting back into the game. They had a full 2 minutes of a five on three power play in the third period and the uh Kings could not score. They did not take advantage of a twoman advantage for a full two minutes. The Oilers were called for a delay a game. Then their head coach Chris Knobblock decided to challenge that. Apparently thought it went off the top of the glass or something. Unsuccessful again. Kings with a goal there. It doesn’t get quite as dramatic. And the Kings missed three empty net opportunities when I mentioned the goalie was pulled for Edmonton. And that kept the door just open enough for the Oilers to be able to get through and eventually tie it up. Now, the Kings didn’t give up a power play goal, but they did give up two goals with the man advantage as the Oilers pulled their goalie. So, maybe that’s a little bit misleading. The again, the point is that the Oilers were able to use an extra attacker to get a couple of goals. Um, and again, the Kings multiple chances to close the door. They left the door open and Edmonton tried to walk through. Thanks to Philip to know they didn’t get all the way through. But I think the Kings obviously have to do a better job of when they get really big opportunities. A five on three power play for two minutes, three shots at an empty net. Those are chances you have to capitalize on against good teams and great players, uh, or else you keep them in the game. So, what was good for LA from a team standpoint? honestly a lot. Um, the Kings were very good defensively for about two periods and 10 seconds uh or or I should say uh a period and then like a second period, but they the Oilers scored in the final seconds. Other what I’m trying to say is it was two very good periods for the Kings. Uh the Oilers did not have much time and space overall for those first two periods. I thought the Kings backchecking was excellent. The penalty kill was outstanding. And so so far that new look penalty kill I would say for the Kings gets an A. Uh the Kings stayed with the five forward power play for the number one power play unit and scored two goals and that’s obviously great. Uh you might remember the Kings had zero power play goals in the entire series last year. They get two in this game. And I wouldn’t call it a panic move, but I did think it was telling that Oilers head coach Chris Stolock paired up Conor McDavid and Leon Dryidle earlier in the game. The reason was is that the Oilers were just not generating much offense at all and he felt like he needed to do something before the game kind of got away from him. It didn’t really work out for him until later uh in the third period mostly with Conor McDavid. Um, and you know, the Kings obviously I actually like when they play Dry Cidle and McDavid together because the Kings can then focus on stopping one line. Now, yes, that one line is uber dangerous with two of the best players in the game on it, but again, you can focus on that one line and stopping them and then the rest of the time, you know, it’s just there’s not much there. I mean, I’m not saying that they’re completely incapable of scoring, but again, you put those two guys together and you know exactly what it is you got to stop. It’s that line. Our coaches quote from coach Jim Hiller on getting the game one victory. He said, quote, “We made a couple of mistakes and they made a couple of really good plays. We did pretty well up until that point. They’re going to make some good plays. We’re going to make some good plays. We didn’t make that many. Um, so when we did in those moments, they made good plays and took advantage. mistakes. He’s saying we didn’t make that many mistakes. Uh is what Jim Hiller was saying. Uh so uh my big takeaway from this game, well, let’s start by answering the big questions I had uh moments ago. Would the Kings use home ice advantage and get a big game one win and start the series off right? Yes, they would. Um I don’t think the Kings got off to the kind of start. Um I I don’t think the Kings get off to the kind of start that they got off to if they’re not at home. And I and if they don’t get off to that good start, they probably don’t win the game. So, did Hallmise advantage impact game one? I would say yes. Uh, did the King Kings keep the the special teams battle even? Yes. Despite the, you know, a couple of goals with the extra attacker, but yes. The Kings stayed out of the box, too, by the way. Only only committing two penalties in this was great considering the type of defense they were playing. I thought the penalty kill was really good. Um, now the question would they contain Oilers stars Conor McDavid and Leon Dryidle? Uh, the answer for Dryidle is pretty much yes. Yes, he had a goal and assist, but for McDavid, the answer was no. Uh, he had a goal and three assists and almost single-handedly uh pushed the Oilers over the finish line late in this one. Um, so yes, yes for Dry Cidle, no for McDavid. And I would have to say for a while I was really enjoying this game and I will say very lucky as a member of the media. I get to go to all these games set up in the press box. I’m very very lucky to get the chance to do that and I was having a good time. I was feeling very very excited for most of the game. And then at the end when it was all said and done obviously I’m still very happy the Kings won the game. That’s one less game they have to win to win this series. But I think I was probably more relieved than actually excited when it was all said and done. Um I thought the Kings were the better team. I we said that the Kings had better depth. I thought that shown throughout. We knew that Conor McDavid andor Leon Dryetttle were going to have their moments. McDavid certainly did as he was pretty spectacular in this one. Um but despite his greatness again, still couldn’t single-handedly get a win for the Oilers. This is a team sport and the Kings were the better team despite it getting a little bit exciting, I guess we’ll have to say. Uh, Kings, meanwhile, are the fourth team in Stanley Cup playoff history to win a game in regulation after losing a four-goal lead. But in the end, that’s all just a interesting footnote. All that matters is the Kings get the win and take a 10 series lead. Up next, we’ll get into some of the individual performances in the win. That’s next here on locked in LA Kings your team every day. Looking for a snack that is both delicious and nutritious? Then you need to crack into a good source of protein with wonderful pistachios. We’ll start with the net minder Darcy Keer. He allowed five goals on 25 shots. Certainly not what we’re used to, but also some of the defense played is not what we’re used to. Uh and we have to give some credit unfortunately to Conor McDavid. As far as the five goals that were allowed by Darcy Keer, the first goal, McDavid gets away with grabbing and holding the stick of Andre Kopitar, which is illegal. He gets the star treatment on that one, I guess. Uh he used that to get an advantage on Kopitar, get around him, and then he would feed Leon Dryidle for a one-timer. Uh McDavid to Dryidle for a one-timer. That’s obviously a shot that most goals in the goalies in the NHL are not going to be able to stop. Second goal that Keer allowed. He made three saves before the Oilers finally stuffed it in. I think the Kings have to do a better job of clearing out the front of the crease in that situation. Third goal, Conor McDavid makes a power move around Vlatislav Gabberov and then fed it for a tap-in goal on the other side of the net. Um, I did not see this real time, but when I saw the replay, Cory Perry cross-checks Joel Edmonson in the back, knocking him down, and that’s why Perry was all alone on the back door to tap that in. So there was something the officials missed. On the fourth goal, Edmonton pulls the goalie for the extra attacker. McDavid gets the puck, makes a move, and then passes it right around a sprawling Drew Dowy to Zachman for a tap in goal. A great player making a great play for McDavid. And in the fifth goal, once again, goalie pulled for the extra attacker. Conor McDavid takes it hard to the net. Went right around Mikey Anderson. And honestly, I don’t know what Drew Dowy was doing defensively on this play. It was like he was playing the pass, but there was nobody behind him for McDavid to pass it to. Uh, in that situation, Dow’s got to know what the situation is around him. And if there’s nobody there that he’s defending, then you’ve got to go to McDavid. He didn’t. And he shoots it off the far post and in. So, all in all, not as bad of a game for Darcy Camper as you might think in my opinion. Uh, as far as some of the skaters, obviously, we got to start with Philip Deno. scored two goals including the gamewinner. The fourth and sixth goals of the game for the Kings. His first goal was on a bad turnover up the middle of the ice. He and Quinton Bifel were both there. Q left it for Deno who put home a wrist shot. Second goal of the gamewinner. Deno was trailing the play. Pass off the boards was tracked down by Trevor Moore in the Oilers end. He leaves it for Deno with Warren Fogle going to the net. Deno is able to just get enough of a bouncing puck on a one-timer to push it past Steuart Skinner with Warren Fogle jumping up in the air in front of the goalender maybe distracting him. It goes in the net and that was your game winner 65 but uh obviously Kings had a lot of big players stepping up but you need some other players to have some big games as well and Philip Deno clearly is uh one of those unsung heroes for the Kings. great defensive centerman, does a lot of, you know, dirty work, wins faceoffs, plays great defense, kills penalties, but for him to get a couple of goals in a playoff game and help them win it, that’s obviously big for him and big for the Kings. Adrien Kempe scored the Kings third goal. Uh, had the initial slap shot on net, save made. Kings get the rebound. Kopitar to Kuseno behind the net. Kusenko just gets enough on a pass out in front for Kempe, who calmly made a move around the goalender and scored on a backhander. for Kempe. He’s got 21 career playoff goals. All of them are against the Edmonson Oilers. Andre Kouseno. Uh boy, this pleasant surprise continues to get more and more pleasant. Scored the King’s first goal on the power play. His first career playoff goal in his first career playoff game. And what a difference he has made on the Kings power play. He was in front of the net. Stick down. Kevin Fiala makes a great pass through traffic right on his stick. deflects it in. And I’ve talked about this before. I love how Kusmano does the unexpected thing often with some of his passes and shot attempts. Really keeps the defenses on their heels. And he rarely turns it over when he does it. They’re not risky, they’re just unexpected. Um he also had a great wraparound chance in the second period. Steuart Skinner actually kicked it off the goal line with a save. Uh KMO finishes with a three-point night in his first career playoff game. Also had assists on the Kente and FIA goals. Quinton Biffield scored the King’s second goal, his first career playoff goal as well. He went the entire postseason a year ago without scoring a goal. Uh Drew Dowy with a shot. Save was made. The rebound though deflects to Biffield. He gloves it, drops it down and shoots it all in one motion. It deflects off the goalender and goes in to make it two nothing. Also had a assist on the Philip Deno first goal did Quinton Biffield. Kevin Fiala scored the King’s fifth goal. one-timer on a two-man advantage power play off a nice clean feed by Adrien Kempe after Kopitar wins a faceoff. Uh FIA has been so deadly on those one-times on the power play this year. I got to think 90% of his power play goals have come from those one-times. Uh I did mention the Kings missed three empty nets at the end of the game. Two of them were from distance. Viala though had one at about center ice and he’s a sniper. Game on the line. empty net goal from center ice. You got to bury that. You just have to. He didn’t. Left the door open and the Oilers almost kicked it down. Um that said, um he was in front of the net on Quinton Bfield’s goal and had a couple really nice backing plays, which is not necessarily something we see a lot from Kevin Fiala, but that’s playoff hockey. You see players doing things they might not normally do and sometimes in a very good way. Um, I thought defensively overall the Kings did a very good job for the first two periods except for those final seconds. Things obviously got away from him a bit in the third period, but I do think some of that has to just go to Conor McDavid being that good. Uh, McDavid played 23 minutes and 21 seconds, Dry Saddle 22 minutes and 2 seconds. I’d love to know how many minutes they played in the third period because it seemed like they hardly left the ice. Uh, and I got to believe that if this series continues and goes six or seven games, that amount of heavy lifting by those two guys, as great as they are, could eventually take a bit of a toll. I did want to check some of the team leaders for the Kings in the win over the Oilers. Adrien Kempe and Andre Kusminko each had three points. Kevin Folo, the team with five shots on goal. Alo Farrier led the Kings with four hits. Mikey Anderson, Drew Dowy, and Vladislav Gabberov each had three blocked shots. Drew Dowy led the Kings in ice time with 26 minutes and 9 seconds. And Alex Turkot u excuse me actually actually it was Andre Kopitar. Andre Kopitar uh led the Kings in the faceoff circle. He was 17 of 33 only 51.5% but that’s 33 faceoffs taken by Andre Kobitar. That is quite a few. All right Kings fans, I salute you and we’ll talk about that next. You’re on lockdown Kings. your team every day. Before we get into a little bit more um as far as we’ve got three stars of the game to hand out, I did want to comment on the officiating and I can’t say exactly what all the calls were for the Oilers. Uh as far as penalties for the Kings, only two were committed. Um but I thought the Kings played a really good game. I thought the Oilers got some calls in this one. Uh I I mentioned McDavid has the holding the stick, gets away with it on Andre Kopitar, by the way. You would think Andre Kopitar of all people would get a little respect there. Um Cory Perry doesn’t get called for the cross check on Edmonson. He scores on that play. And then Mikey Anderson got called for a penalty uh when he and the Oilers player were locked arm in- arm. And I don’t know, I guess because the Oilers player was an offensive player, then, you know, it’s I would you would think that would be just he’s holding me, I’m holding him, but it’s kind of like if you watch football, you know, an offensive player can get away with a little push, whereas the defensive player gets a little tug. They almost always call it on the defensive player. though. Um, as for the coaching, I thought that Chris Knobblock’s decision to go with McDavid and Dryidle, it didn’t make a lot of sense to me early on and it didn’t really work early on. Um, they did connect on that one goal before uh the second third intermission. Um, but it did it did I think probably work out a bit more for him as it went along. Um, he did have that, I would say, risky challenge on the delay of game call, which did not work out in his favor as far as the challenge being upheld. He got he gave the Kings a two-man advantage for two minutes. And normally that is uh if you make that decision and at least that result, usually means it’s going to be a puck in the back of your net. Unfortunately for the Kings, they did not make the Oilers pay for that mistake. Um, as far as Jim Hiller, uh, I like the fact that he stuck with five forwards on the power play. I think that certainly paid off. Also made a nice move, um, where the Kings number one power play unit was on the ice. Uh, they had a prolonged shift, they come off, second power play unit goes on, and not long into their shift, they draw a penalty. It’s a two-man advantage and Hiller goes right back to the top power play unit and Kevin Fiala would score uh on that on that one timer. So, I thought that was that was a nice move. He’s like, “Okay, this is a big opportunity in the game. I know you guys are a little tired, but we’ll get you back out there and and get a goal.” And of course, players are miraculously not quite as tired when they’re playing on the on the power of play. Um, three stars. Three stars of the game. Uh, I thought this one was pretty easy. Uh, but I’m going to go with my number three star, Andre Koosmeco, for a goal and two assists. Um, again, continues to be a great addition to the LA Kings. Uh, just in front of the net, taps it in. Kevin Fiala really made the play, but Kouseno had to get into that scoring area and be ready for it, and he was also again a couple assists as well. Andre Kuseno, my third star. Adrien Kempe gets my second star. Now, like Kuseno, he also had a threepoint night, a goal, and two assists. But I thought his overall defensive work, as usual, was very good. And that’s why he gets a little bit of an edge over Andre Kusmeo gets the number two star. But the number one star of the game, of course, the man with two goals, including the game winner in the final seconds, that would be Philip Deno. Okay. Okay, I met with some Kings fans uh during game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Hello to Edward. It was great to meet you. And I also caught up with a couple of old friends of mine, Chuck and Damian, who uh are Kings fans, and I used to play hockey with them. And they said that I called out Kings fans on the show the other day. Now, I didn’t think I did. And if I did, I didn’t mean to. All I said was, “We have home ice advantage and if you’re going to the game as a fan, we need you guys to really help the Kings.” And you heard Jim Fox say it in our interview with him, talked about why the Kings are so good at home. He said because the he felt the Kings have such a high energy, high, you know, they’re they’re they’re always moving. They’re always working. And when they’re at home, this is, you know, away from the puck, that kind of hard work when you get that little extra boost, a little extra energy, that could be the difference. And I I thought I thought Kings fans were absolutely awesome in that game. I really did. I was very impressed. I was very happy. And it started at the beginning in the most unexpected and unique way, the national anthem. So, I assume you guys saw this on TV. someone in with the LA Kings decided it would be a good idea for the Korea Town Senior and Community Center harmonica class to perform the national anthem. Now, God bless bless these ladies and I could certainly see this for, I don’t know, Korean Heritage Night, which seemed very appropriate. But for game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs in Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world, we had the Korea Town Senior and Community Center harmonica class to to perform the national anthem. I was like, what is this? Um, so they started playing the harmonicas and right away the fans started singing the US national anthem and it was by far the loudest I’ve ever heard Kings fans sing a national anthem. And I was at the first Kings game after 911 and it wasn’t like that. Um, I I thought it was very it was totally organic. Nobody told the fans to do this. It wasn’t like, you know, uh, Trevor Rambo and the PA announcer said, “Okay, fans, let’s sing along with the harmonica players.” No, it just happened and it was awesome. Um, we’ve seen this in Edmonton and other places, but we don’t see it that much uh in the US and frankly, we don’t see it that much in California. Um, but that was really cool. Really cool. And I’ve seen on social media fans are begging the Kings to bring back the harmonica ladies. And I’m here to tell you, I’m all for it. Please, yes, bring them back. It’s a thing now. Like, it’s it’s a fun thing now. It’s a good luck thing now. And uh it would be cool to have all the fans sing again like they did. So, LA Kings, if you’re listening to this, you need to bring back those harmonica ladies. Uh, and then the game, the chance starting, go Kings go right away. The appropriate booing of that jack hold Darnell Nurse every time he touched the puck. The mocking of the goalie Skinner. Skinner. It was all awesome. And I know things got a little bit tight late in the game, but I will say Kings fans, I thought you guys absolutely brought your agame. It was a great atmosphere. We talked about home ice being the difference. The Kings win game one. I don’t think they, you know, all in all, if that’s a road game, probably doesn’t happen. So, great job Kings fans. I cannot wait to hear you for game number two. Keep it going. You guys were great. And also got to give a shout out to Ed and Brea. Not only was he guaranteeing a series loss for the Kings, but at the last neck second he snuck in an email guaranteeing a game one loss just to make sure to make sure that that would happen. And uh Ed, once again, well done. Uh real quick check of the OHL playoffs. Kings first round pick forward Liam Green and his Windsor Spitfires did not close out their series against the Kitcher Rangers again. Uh, Green Tree did play in a game six loss and after winning the first three games, they’ve now lost three in a row, it’s going to a deciding game seven on Tuesday. So hopefully Liam Greenree can help his team get a win and advance in the OHL playoffs. He’s still leading all of the playoffs in goals, 14 in 10 games. Meanwhile, Kings prospect defenseman Jared Willie and his London Knights sitting back and waiting after sweeping their first round opponent. And finally, the Ontario Rain will open up the AHL playoffs against the San Jose Barracuda in a 36 matchup. Game one at Crypto.com Arena on Thursday. First round of the AHL playoffs, by the way, are a best of three. Uh, I did see that the Kings made a roster move. They called up Phoenix Cppley as an emergency goalie. I almost ran into him or he almost ran into me going around a corner in the press box uh at Crypto.com Arena. I don’t know if he can be sent back down. I assume he can for the AHL playoffs or are they going to go with Carter George? I don’t know what’s going on with Eric Portillo. He’s apparently still hurt and that’s that is a lingering injury. GKG
The 2nd period goal for the Kings game off of McDavid holding Kopitar's stick to prevent the poke check. Honestly, McDavid fit away with 5 or 6 penalties. He absolutely benefits from officials swallowing whistles. The league needs to fix this or the Kings need to finish every check on him. This was such a crazy game. I was so glad I got to attend. BTW, the Korean harmonica class DID perform on K Town night this year. It was the game vs the Bruins. GKG!
Refs let a obvious and crucial tripping penalty go, by Corey Perry, that most likely prevented the Kings from scoring an empty net goal, that would have made it 6-2.
Never let up on Miss David and Dry Saddle. They can overtake games. Stop with the icing. Take your time to hit the empty net.
After 2nd period, Rogers, the Canadian panel of analysts, spoke the words Miracle on Manchester. It almost happened for Edmonton. Kings unfortunately reverted back to the Kings of the last few years in that eventful 3rd period. Luckily, they got the W.
Can't let off the gas in the 3rd. First 40 min felt SO dominant, they have keep that same momentum going.
I may need to sit on the couch for game 2. I may have lost my "isht" in my chair last night. 😂
GKG!
I'm sorry but #8 is not the same player he was years ago, they cannot let him continue to play 25 minutes a game.
Team LA Store needs to start selling KINGS Harmonicas!!!
I loved the National Anthem!!! A sweet gesture, albeit oddly timed, but hockey fans are like no other sports fans. Well done Kings fans for making the Anthem SO loud!!
Good game… can’t get cocky though. We were acting like the Oilers didn’t force a game 7.
Nothing to be cocky about when playing against this team.
And 3 empty Netter that the Kings should make also just letting the Oilers to come back from 4-0 but other than that win is a win I will take that I’m happy the outcome with that game winning goal from Phillip Danault
Danault is a beast this time of the year. I'm so glad to see him with such intensity and swagger.
McDavid only scored when he held the stick and the fact it happened right in front of the referees most of the time, blows my mind. Happy we won though, so that's the only thing that matters in the end
Doughty and Anderson should be separated, both cannot handle Mc crybaby
Not sure how we can win this ,with McDavid waltzing around Gavrikov and Spence like they were sitting pylons..the offence was O.K , but you gotta score on that 5 on 3, the lack of faceoff wins is also killing us..
Bring them old Korean harmonica playin SOB's back for game 2. We came hot to trot thanks to them 😂
Seeing Kuzzie's face during the anthem and his smile 🤣🤣🤣 i was there singing along it was awesome
Not quite the masterpiece it was shaping up to be, a near-catastrophic loss averted, thankfully. Still, nice to see Edmonton lose it after the hard fought rally back to tie. Ha ha.
You can request a video review of a puck going out of play penalty but you can't request a video replay of a douchebag cross-checking an opponent down to the ice right in front of the net that leads directly to a goal?
I’m just hoping that if McDavid continues to play like McDavid… Stuart Skinner continues to play like Stuart Skinner 😅
Although the Kings won….it's very concerning.
That was the full Kevin Fiala experience. Awesome pass to Kuznetzov out the gate on the first goal. But he was getting pushed around a lot 5 on 5 most of that first period and beyond. When it was 4-2, I thought if there was a time to maybe get away from the 5 forward PP, it was at that time, because a shorthanded goal would really hurt, and Kings were already up by 2. Fiala was just so aloof over there on the boards, and didn't see the puck get past him. Oilers had a very dangerous rush the other way, but thankfully Nurse just sort of didn't get a lot on the slot shot, or that game is 4-3 right there. Then the Kings have the 5 on 3 (The first one) right after that and Kempe slides it over to Fiala, who just rips it over Skinner. Beautiful shot. The next 5 on 3, after the delay of game and challenge, Fiala rips it off the post. Nothing wrong with that. But after that, he just brain farts for the final 30-40 seconds. Fans on a shot, then his next attempt he Jack Johnson's it 30 feet over the net and basically clears it on behalf of the Oilers. Then, as you mentioned, the empty net chance from center ice. He shot it over the net from red line! Like, dude, take a little heat off that shot. All of the drama down the stretch is negated if that goes in. I know Danault and Doughty also missed empty-netters, but those were from the full length of the ice. Anyway. So much of the Kings success is going be contingent on if Fiala can keep it going.
We need the harmonica ladies every night!!
No freaking way we should have let them get back into it, no way.. We need to play a full 60, not 57.. The hockey gods , sometimes the better team wins

Better LEARN FAST from that RUDE Awakening. NO Team should you Ever Take Foot off the Gas Pedal!! Better bring their Hitting game2
Kings Escape The Destiny Collapse . A Very Lucky And Shocking. Win. Kings Should Of Lost This Game They Did Not. Oilers Have Momentum Still And Are Still The Favorite Now Witn Darcy Kuemper Now Mentally Vulnerable. Kings Lead 1-0 GKG.
I will not hear any slander about the Korean Senior Harmonica Class. They are a gem.
Not going to lie, last night's game felt more like a loss than a win. I'll / we'll take it nonetheless. It's just telling that although you want to play more conservatively w a 3 goal lead, if you give McDavid and Draistyl any room, goals will come from EDM.
Oiler fans wonder why we hate them yet they consistently come to our channels and trash talk and are extremely rude and disrespectful and act surprised we don’t think they’re top tier fans 😂 Jesus man they can’t stop complaining
Do you guys honestly believe the Kings are capable of playing better? We sure know the Oilers are. Writing’s on the wall my friends.
I remember saying right when we scored the 4th "Don't stop! Keep your foot on the gas!" The Oilers are a team with tremendous talent that if you give them just a little bit of hope that they'll come back in it, they will. And sure enough, the Oilers did come back. I'm convinced if the game went to OT, we lose Game 1 b/c all the momentum was swinging in the their direction during the 3rd period. I'm glad we won, but boy was that close.
