Tigers vs Yankees Highlights | 4/9/25
This is so cool to have happened in front of us. Two guys that got to know each other so closely in high school. Jack, two years younger in school than Max Fried who transferred in because his program, Montclair prep closed for his senior year. It wasn’t available to stay at his school. So Jack was playing shortstop. Max was on the mound, see if he can keep doing what the starters have done in this series. So the Yankees trying to salvage this final game, Jack Flaherty, a big free agent signing for the Tigers. He is on the mound. Tigers looking for a sweep. They’re in the middle of a winning streak. Yankees three in a row. They have lost. Rice is ready. Flaherty is ready. Let’s do it in Detroit Baba Frozen. He just poured 93 squarely in the strike zone outside edge and rice could not pull the trigger called third strike to start the game for Jack Flaherty. Here’s Aaron Judge three for seven in the first two games hitting 3 41 3, two breaking ball. See you later, Jack Flaherty with an impeccable mix there for Judge Cody Bellinger steps to the plate one, two swing and a miss slider under the bat. Nice start for Jack Flaherty strikes out the side two swinging. Judge and Bellinger to end the inning Tigers bat bottom of the first trying to sweep the Yankees here in downtown Detroit Max Fried. It will be his third start one and 2.61. Er, a and we’re going to talk about it today. You got to be a streak stopper. The Yankees have lost three in a row. Part of the responsibility of being a top of the rotation guy is to stop the losing streaks. So freed deals grounded to third cabrera one pitch, one out so one away. And is the hitter pitch swung on foul tip held on by JC era and a strikeout for max free two outs here in the Tigers first thats up green on the ground into center field. A base hit for Riley Green. He just battled and defended himself into a base hit. This is an intriguing matchup with Spencer Charleson 12 hit sharply right at Chisholm. He will go to the bag and he just beats green there for the force in the final out. Flaherty struck out the side in the first inning. Here’s Paul Goldschmidt, that’s a base hit for Goldschmidt. He keeps on keeping on what a start to his season. See what J can do is a bit of a slump and a walk for Chisholm. So 1st and 2nd. Nobody out. Yeah, you got to take advantage of some of these opportunities early in ball games, Anthony BPI up at the plate and there goes the bat and the batter that’s at least the silver medal and Jave and it got all the way to the outfield grass. 137 ft. Your new leader in the bat to, for the day. There’s Jason Dominguez 12 swing and a miss. It’s a curveball that time. And old Uncle Charlie has Flaherty’s fifth strikeout. Now some pressure on Acara trying to come up with a big two out hit and there’s ball four as Desarro walks and the bases are loaded for Oswaldo Cabrera. The 12 swinging a fly ball off the fastball right out to Kreidler in center. Good call a lot of pitches thrown for Flaherty but he strands three. It’s going to be Dylan Dingler called Keith and a strike three dingler down looking here’s Keith 12 swing and a Miss tipped into the glove of a scar third strikeout for freed two down. Here’s Jy Baez 12 pitch fastball blew it by him. Max freed everybody strikes out the side looking swinging and swinging. He’s got four K’s in two innings. Now we go to the third inning, five strikeouts for Flaherty, four strikeouts for free, another swing and Miss on a curveball. Flaherty is awesome today. Six strikeouts. Here’s Aaron Judge struck out in a 10 pitch at bat in the first inning as judge hits it high in the air to right field. And Mckinstry for out number 222 is another punch out tickets everywhere being punched by Jack Flaherty. Go to the bottom of the fourth inning. Nothing, nothing Tigers with two hits. Yankees with one, 31 ground ball past third. Cabrera dove over top of it and spencer Torkelson is on once again, Dylan Dingler catcher right hand hitter Fried got dingler two. Here’s pitch breaking ball swing on a miss match big time. Two down. That’s the fifth strikeout for free. Colt, Keith left hand hitter struck out on a 12 pitch last time and a pitch strike three called back to back strikeouts. He’s got six. Flaherty’s got seven boys from Southern California. Really matching it up here. Zeros and strikeouts, no scores. We go to the fifth. I mean, this is just pitching. They’re both dominant, dominant is a good word. Excellent is also a good word. And there’s another punch out. Jack Flaherty is smoking hot right now. Here’s cabrera. There’s the pitch swinging on to center field coming on, cried. It’s not gonna get it drops in front. A little flair job works just the second hit for the Yankees this afternoon. Top of the order, here’s Ben Rice. He struck out looking, struck out swinging in the air. Left field. Riley Green is underneath Tiger. Still looking for that sweep. A first run would go a long way. Max Fried and his buddy Jack Flaherty throwing zeros up on that board final game of this three game set bottom third of the Tiger order against the Yankee lefty strike three Baez down looking that’s three consecutive strikeouts for freed. So seven K’s for Fried eight for Flaherty, two outs. And here’s mckenry, the right fielder batting in the nine spot. He had a comebacker to Max Mckinstry gives it a ride left field toward the corner and that ball is a fair baseball deep into the corner. Zack has triple eyes here and he is in standing up, there’s some action deep into the corner with a two out triple. Dominguez does not have a play. Then he has trouble with the ball rattling around in the corner. Can’t come up with a clean trying to pick it up with the glove. So now top of the order here is Malloy right hand hitter pitch to Malloy swing and a miss, he struck him out and Max Exalts pumps, the fist doesn’t put up over his head, but he can see a little fist pump right there. That’s his eighth strikeout. This one as advertised two high school teammates from los Angeles hooked up in a classic pitchers to Flaherty and free. It will be Judge Bellinger and goldschmidt here in the sixth inning with the fastball upstairs. So judge works a walk. There’s Bellinger, he struck out twice against Flaherty. Another strikeout got to wait for it and it’s punch out number nine for Jack. I just can’t see it. That breaking ball has been really good. Can you get Goldschmidt to hit it on the ground line drive? It’s a base hit to left field, cutting over his green. It’s going to get by him and go to the wall. Judge is chugging the third. They’re going to hold him right there and Goldschmidt with a double Yankee 2nd and 3rd 1 man out. It’s been a hit machine for the New York Yankees five and a third. Just three hits for Jack Flaherty. He leaves with two on and his duel with Max Fried. His long time friend, Tyler Holton will come on to face Jazz Chisholm junior right back to Holton and he runs directly at Judge bluffs it and played it beautifully. That is outstanding from Tyler Holton, the former position player in college. Just awesome two down for Volpi. He took him down Tyler Holton extinguishes. The Yankees Fried is one out into the sixth and dealing to Riley Green free picks up another strikeout number nine. Torque has had a couple of decent at bats here. Next pitch swung on, hit down to third cabrera down to a knee gathers throws and that will do it a very tasty tidy sixth inning for Max Fried getting some runs. Face knock for Cabrera his eighth of the season. Second today. All right. Top of the order. This will be Ben Rice struck out looking, went swinging and flied to left high drive Mckinstry back looking up and that ball is gone. They’re saying it’s a double. No, it is a home run, a two run shot for Ben Rice and the Yankees lead two. Nothing. Oh, did they need that? It would be a leadoff double. Doesn’t look like the Tigers are going to go quietly. So runner at second is Colt Keith. The tying run at the plate fly ball left center position perfectly. Bellinger tagging is dingler but he just draws the throw one away one down runner at second. Here’s Baez swing and a miss got him. Went to the changeup. 10th strikeout for free. Sixth career 10 plus strikeout game here is Kreidler fastball swing on and Miss got him 11 strikeouts. A masterful performance by Max freed 11 Ks and the Yankees lead two nothing here at Detroit two nothing. Yankees top 92 on both runners reach by being hit by a pitch. Rice, a 32 pitch runners at 1st and 2nd. Bremer deals pitch swung on hit to the second baseman and he boots it. Everybody’s safe routine. Ground ball to the second baseman, double play written all over it and he totally kicked it. Bases are loaded. Now you got to pitch to 99 Aaron Judge base hit one run scores. Here comes cabrera, he’ll score. It’s a two run single for judge and the Yankees have doubled their lead it’s four nothing, three games for Devin Williams so far. This is not a safe situation. He is not pitched in this series. Tomorrow’s an off day. So they bring him in with a four nothing lead. Here’s Toral upstairs, good sequence for torque. That is the first walk today from a Yankee pitcher. Keep the train moving next guy up dingler swing and a Miss got him with the fastball one away. Here’s Colt Keith left hand hitter swing and a Miss Keith down on strikes. Yankees aren’t out way. Here’s Javier Baez last chance for the Tigers. Baez has struck out three times today. Oh, takes second base defensive indifference. 2 to 0 through the right side. That’s a base hit, stop sign at third two on two out Trey Sweeney, there goes Baez, he’ll take second base more indifference. 32 pitch here two out in the ninth. Sweeney takes ball four all tying run to the plate. Zack Mckinstry that one gets away no more. Shut out. It goes rolling down the stairs. That’ll be two bases. Absolutely. The Tigers get 12 balls and a strike. The fans are loving it. Now. It’s building in the air and down into right field, one run is home. Here comes the second throw is not in time. Mckinstry to second base. They let it go through. That is wild that the throw came to the plate. Mckinstry gets an extra base out of it and that could be enormous on the throw from judge in right. So runner at second two out, the Tigers have knocked Devin Williams out of the game. So it has come to this. Mark Lener junior comes on who will face Justin Henry Malloy Mckinstry at second base with the tying run popped up shallow center Chisholm makes the play and the Yankees hold on victory for the New York Yankees 43 the final.

Nice they got a playoff run as it might be the last one for awhile. What a crapper team.
Why do we seem to play our worst baseball in the 3rd game of a series?
Why does it take so long to upload?
Malloy just missed that
That bat went flying, my brain said ahh there goes one of those new torpedo bats.
