Rob Blake is out as LA Kings general manager

Rob Blake is out as LA Kings general manager. Hi, I’m Eddie Garcia, the host of Lockdown LA Kings. The team announced through a press release Monday morning that vice president and GM Rob Blake and the team have mutually agreed to part ways. Blake, a former Kings Hall of Fame defenseman, had been on the job for eight seasons, overseeing a rebuild from the team’s two Stanley Cup teams to varying degrees of success. Blake was able to trade and sign key pieces for their current roster like Kevin Fiala, Philip Deno, Darcy Keer, Vladislav, Gabriov, Warren Fogle, and Joel Edmonson. However, a big trade for Pierre Luis last season was a big swing and a miss. Blake did hire four head coaches during his tenure. John Stevens, Willie Dejardan, Todd Mlullen, and current head coach Jim Hiller. However, the biggest reason for Blake being out is a lack of playoff success. The team made the playoffs five of the eight years he was on the job, but failed to advance out of the first round each time, including this season when the team didn’t capitalize on a 20 series lead against the Oilers and lost four straight to be eliminated at the hands of Edmonton for a fourth year in a row. Now, the question is, who will the Kings look to as the team’s next general manager? Will it be an internal hire like assistant GM Nelson Emerson or senior adviser Mark Burjan, a former GM in Montreal, or someone from outside the organization? And how will that hire affect the Kings going forward? For much more on this and more, be sure to check out Locked On LA Kings.

  1. About to be the most popular Lock On episode ever. Depending on if Luc is allowed to remain and continue the nepotistic damage by hiring a former player or even worse Marc Bergevin.

  2. eddie! i have been listening to the puck podcast since 07! you're the best brotha! sorry about the kings man. getting rid of blake is great news. he was already a loser, but when he signed cal peterson to that contract he should have been let go.. then especially when it inevitably blew up in his face!

  3. I thought Blake did an excellent job, his mistake was thinking PLD would buy into are defensive structure..This year he gave us enough to succeed.. In hindsight, I think we can all say game management needed to be better.. Not one of the remaining playoff teams would ever think about backing off , with a goal or two lead going into the 3rd.. We did it 3 times, got lucky in game 1..The 4th line didn’t have a goal against, because they never played.. If they gave up 1 or 2 then think about shortening the bench..Cooper from Tampa might be available…

  4. Blake is a turncoat loser who couldn't get it done in LA as a player and moved Quick from LA who earned his back-up role. So long toad, go back to denver, you couldn't hold Mcsorley's jock strap !

  5. Agree with Futa. Blake should have been removed after the Willie D fiasco, after the PLD fiasco, the Kovalchuk fiasco, the Petersen fiasco….wow, I'm seeing a pattern here….and no on Bergevin!!!
