Guardians vs. Reds Highlights (5/17/25) | MLB Highlights

Welcome to Armed Forces Day. A salute to the selfless, the men and women in uniform and in service. We thank you. It’s the Reds and the Guardians in game two of their three game series. It’s the start for Brent Soderman of Moler Cincinnati zone his second of the year, the 46th of his big league career. Yeah, I think Brett sooner being the guy to open this game is awesome. I think he, I feel like he has an opportunity to set the tone. I just love his pace. I love his competitiveness and with that, we’re ready to go. Stephen Kwan steps in to lead it off, Guan hitless last night. He comes in tied for fifth in the American League with 55 hits and a breaking ball right back in the right center field. Juan aggressively puts on the brakes. He made a hard turn but decided to hold with a leadoff single once again and he got a breaking ball and he leaves this breaking ball up and took advantage of it. So he leads off the game with another base knock jose ramirez in the two hole tonight. Jose has now hit home runs in three straight ball games and runner at first base, nobody out to pitch to ramirez. He’s out in front of it and skies it high into the air to short left de La Cruz is out. It is Benson. It’s Benson waving his arms calling to make the catch. Manzo hit in each of his last four games. One ball, one strike. The pitch Manzo lifts it in the air to left field. Benson will go back over his left shoulder to make the catch back to first base again, back to back, fly out to left field one by Ramirez. Now one by Manzo that will bring up the DH tonight. Carlos Santana switch hitter. He’ll be right handed tossed to first in the air, goes off the netting down the right field line hit second and he’ll stay there on the throwing air by, I think that little bit of jab right there by Stephen Kwan may have disrupted the rhythm of Brent Suter. The 22, he swings and sends this one high in the air but a lazy fly to shallow left and is Benson, he’s there to make the catch and we go to the bottom of the first. It’s the Guardian’s nothing and the Reds coming up will make the start tonight. Probably on about a 75 pitch count tonight. No score in the first dj Friedel sets fires Friedel with a sky ball to center. A Martinez will make the catch two pitches and that’s the first out Espinal. One out of four last night singled and scored in the series finale against the White Sox. 32 pitch to Espinal. He pops it up shallow. Right? No one Jones is there two down de La Cruz a walk and a steal yesterday went one for three swing and a miss. He stayed up the ladder and that one was up to 98. Can’t go much better than the first inning did for Slade Sacconi. We go to the second and one on Gabriel Arias. The pitch swung on the dribbler to third. If it stays fair, it will be a base hit, it stays on the grass and a 60 ft single for Gabriel Arias left on left. Here’s Daniel s and sooner just pointed at steer to say thank you, not the cleanest throw, but they get two. Well, this one was hard hit. Good reaction. Boy, that ball and Cuff Suor on the line, but he threw his glove up through a hand grenade over to steer at first base to get the double play count. Three and two on Boer runner at first base with two outs. Suter throws the pitch lofted into short center field on comes TJ Friedel to make the running catch. So this bullpen outing has really worked for the Reds and it was really keyed by Brent Suter. You bring in a reliever to start a game and get three scoreless innings from a relief pitcher to start a game that changed the complexion of the game and how Tito used his bullpens. I’ll tell you what, phenomenal tonight with 42 hit shutout innings striking out a half dozen Reds. Daniel Schne leads off the fifth inning. No score man with a high fly ball deep right field, Heins his back on the track at the wall. It is gone a home run and Daniel man with home run number six, it just did get out of here in the right field and the Guardians take a one nothing lead. Hes going back jumps up and you can see that the for he had his head out. So we started under caution, but finally, we’ve dropped the green flag here in Cincinnati is a little bit of a home run heat right now. Back to back games with a home run high fly right field. Nolan Jones watch it. I could, will Benson three straight games with a big fly and he ties it at one. The Renaissance is real. Beaman appears to be back. Boy, he’s on some kind of heater , isn’t he? It looked like he knew a breaking ball was coming and he got it right where he wanted it. And the slow jog around the bases has the fans on their feet here at Great American ballpark tied at one top of the order starting with Friedel corners will edge in that’s rifled over first base hit Friedel, pick it too. Jones from right fires to second. There could be a play. No, it’s by Steven and Friedel holds out of the bag with a hustle double. Didn’t get the call on that back door breaking ball. Then comes with the change up. Leaves it up just ahead. TJ. Friedel hitting it down that right field line. Jones does a nice job of getting there. Friedel into scoring position to begin the sixth inning. Now Santiago Espinal comes to the plate showing punt, he pulls back, he swings away. It’s over. Second. You got it. Johnson. Here’s what beautiful piece of hitting by Espinal. Show bunt pulled the bat back Then slaps a line drive right over the head of the second baseman. Perfect execution. The plunge to the plate by Fried first lead for Cincinnati and the knockout blow for Sacco Kate smith is on for the 22nd time. He is 1 to 1 with a 2.75. Er A he’s walked eight against 28 strikeouts and now Hayes launches one high in the air deep left Quan back and it’s off the wall its way back toward the infield heading around third. Here comes Espinal to the plate relay to the plate, not in time and the ball gets away. Hayes up to third base and he’ll hold on there. He just did miss a home run. It was high off the wall and the left fielder Kwan just got a little too deep in the bottom of the seventh. Reds are up by two. It bases are empty with two outs. Heins way ahead in the count, three balls and one strike to center field Martinez streaking back that’s gone his second of the season to straight away center and a big tech run. It’s 41, Cincinnati. That is a huge insurance run for the Reds. Now, it’s up to Emilio Pagan. A 12, 3/9 got his 10th save yesterday. Struck out Arias to end it. Now, the O Tuna Manzo swinging the best struck out carlos Santana. The one check swing tapper back to the mound. Pagan right on top of the hill fields it and throws the first two down. So the count is level two balls and two strikes to right center finds handles and the Reds win three straight for the red legs. They have secured the series from Cleveland back to back bolt outs by Pagan and they will set up an opportunity for a sweep tomorrow.
