Dodgers postgame: Clayton Kershaw details health, struggles & positive takeaways from 2025 debut
[Music] when you look at this outing too first, just can you describe to us the emotions of getting back out there and just being back on Gibbly Mount? Yeah, I mean I I love being back out there. It felt uh it’s just it’s a special thing to get to go back and pitch at Dodger Stadium. Obviously, I wanted to pitch better. um need to pitch better going forward. But um you know I think for me just to see that I think there’s some glimpses of some my stuff being there which is good. Um the problem tonight was just command. I had really bad command tonight. So um I think I can fix that which is good which is an encouraging thing but obviously um not good enough tonight to get it done. But you know first first one back and just to be back out here at Dodger Stadium was uh was special for me regardless of the outcome tonight. Command wise. Why do you think that was? Was it something maybe you felt in your bullpen going into it? I don’t know. You know, there were some good throws mixed in, but just not enough consistency. So, um, you know, just look at it tomorrow, try to figure it out and work on it in the bullpen and, um, get ready for the next one. And just overall physically, the toe, the knee, the arm, how you feel? Yeah, physically feel great. Um, you know, that first inning was long. uh hadn’t had, you know, a really long inning like that in rehab before. So, I think my um you know, stamina was kind of put to the test early, which was good. Um and so, you know, obviously took my lumps on this one, but physically feel good and ready for the next one. It looked like you took a pause on your way out of the dugout, like you stopped and saw you put your head down. Were you reflecting or was it the is that something you normally do or were you kind of thinking about what was going to happen next? No, I I don’t remember pausing. I always wait till um you know 08 up with the game to go back on the field. So maybe I was just a little early today. But uh yeah, I think you know before the game and um you know leading up to this you know it’s definitely I don’t like the word emotional but there’s definitely some like uh some thoughts you know some uh it’s just it’s just special you know. So um I think as you have done it more and you get a little bit older you just uh learn to appreciate that more. So it was it was different. No, I wouldn’t say that, but just it was it was special. What was it like being with Dalton? Yeah, Rush did great. You know, obviously I didn’t gave him a lot to work with today. So, um you know, he’s he’s going to be good, cares a lot, wants to be good. Um you know, prepared a lot, did a lot of homework, and you know, he’s learning on the fly, and so um you know, I I didn’t give him a lot of help today. Obviously, I didn’t hit a lot of spots, but um he’ll be fine. The slider was an outgetter today. How would you describe your feeling for that pitching? Uh, yeah, I left a few middle today. Um, I think more than anything with the slider. There’s a lot of foul balls instead of swing and misses. So, um, you know, that needs to be my out pitch. That needs to be the one that get get swing and miss on. So, I think I think it’s in there. I just, uh, you know, the location wasn’t great today. Left a lot of them middle. What carried over from your rehab starts that went well tonight? I don’t know. I mean, I rehab you just try and make it here, you know? So this is where the performance starts. So now we start analyzing performance and try to figure out how to get people out consistently. And so um it’s a it’s a it’s hard to compare. It’s just completely different animal. Looking at the way the season ended for you last year, what ultimately like kept you motivated to come back for your 18th season? Just just wanted to pitch. Yeah. Simple as that. All right.

My idea of romance is someone who remembers my coffee order without needing a reminder💕
Not a problem that our starters suck, our relievers suck worse.
Clayton struggled which was not too surprising but the Dodgers' bull pen blew this game tonight!
The only thing positive that Kershaw could possibly say about this outing is "Hey I'm 2 strikeouts closer to 3000!"
Am I surprised by Dodger's bullpen performance? Not really.
This was his first actual game where the opposition is trying to win a game. And every other team has been warmed up in competition for two months. And he's been out for basically two years other than a few outings in 2024 where he wasn't healthy. He could bounce back unless he's aged too much at 37 y.o. He might get to 3000 strikeouts but I think he might not let his ERA climb too much in pursuit of 3000 K's. What's of more concern is his fastball velocity has dipped below 90 MPH . AND he's aged to 37 y.o. He was effective like that for the first time 2 or 3 years ago. The question is how effective can Clayton be ? And another is how much longer does he have? I thought he might last to 40 or 42 y.o. on junk . But that's a question mark right now.
If anyone can get it figured out, CK can.
losing back to back games against Angels should be a wakeup call to the bullpen.
Why are players with no help to the offense playing every day and players that get hits and get on base and score runs are benched. I do not buy the left handed pitcher excuse. And why not pinch hit for Confoto with bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eight?
Age is not the reason a player is not performing well. You're all human beings. We have good days and bad days. It's not a matter of what you do. It's a matter of being a focused person with deep thoughts of positive faith. Now, that's what you call paying attention at its best in professional sports…
💙LET'S GO DODGERS💙
💙"All the way to the World Series"💙
The dodgers pitching looks shaky this year. The rotation and pen are porous . Last year it was just the rotation. This year the pen seems far less agile and deep where as in 2024 the pen was deep and fully stocked with quality relief work. Even Ohtani couldn't help the staff enough to make a dent. He needs to be shut down anyway and mend from the total burnout performances he rendered last year. Now Ohtani's married and Betts is being overloaded at the shortstop position even though he's sufficiently okay over there. He needs to be at second or the outfield and maybe a little defense at short is fine as he's had significant training at that position now. The Dodgers problem is Mookie's offense is extremely sluggish because of the position change. It's almost like there's no position on defense for Betts other than second base. But it's better to have young Hyeseong handle that role with his slick glove and fresh speed dynamics. Along with his bat to ball skills which are rising well. Mookie's aging too far now and he can handle defense still but his strengths to the team that top the list is his offense. The Dodgers rookies look good but the team has taken a step back offensively this year. It's not wise to have Freddie hitting with that ankle . And Shohei is not responding well at all to the tremendous overload of stresses he put himself under last year. And they resigned Roberts. So that's not helping the situation with his weird outlook on the team. You constantly have to take massive oversteps to fight Dave's opinions and influence off from negatively impacting the team by countering his negative moves everyday. Or else the losing situation will continue to deteriorate further. Have you ever watched and listened to Dave give a press speech? I can't even stand it any longer. I have to change the channel immediately or fastforward to the end where he's no longer talking or thinking about anything of consequence that's worth paying attention to. And Muncy is totally dead weight at this point. I'd have Max and CT3 at this point take alternating IL stints to keep that young phenom or semi phenom up on the roster with Pages and Rushing adding a much needed youth infusion. I'd put Shohei and mookie on the IL intermittently along with Freddie for 3 weeks at a time . AT LEAST!!! To recover some intrinsic cellular growth of fresh cells . And health. Teo and Edman can handle some games before it's time to rotate them back to the IL in prep for October. You need an A1 battle plan. Or else you're screwed! You only won last year for a few reasons like Ohtani overloaded his energy center bigtime to overproduce beyond what could be expected. Freddie and Mookie as well. Those guys are aging. You have to play it smarter for continued hope of future postseason success. Whether it is this year or one of the next coming seasons. You need healthy components to have any sort of chance. Or else the Dodgers are just spinning their wheels for nothing.
Remember the time when we were all like, who can beat the Dodgers? Our pitching staff was projected to be lights out! 😭😭💀
This was Clayton Kershaw Day! This was the result that we all expected tbh
I want to see Clayton Kershaw pitch in San Diego, that will be the true test to see if Kersh still has it in him. I would love to see him pitching to Machado and Tatis 💀
My former pitcher eyeballs told me that Kershaw was trying to paint the black with a soft arsenal. Those hitters can see those meatballs coming from a mile away. It was like seeing a position player pitch to batters, they had the same reaction on every pitch. Meaning keep Kershaw away from any MLB lineup that name is not Rockies, White Sox, Marlins
Let's go Kersh22
Starting pitching is a problem for us. Everyone needs to get healthy.
Ohtani might need to speed up his return.
your’re done dumb shit.why are you so stubborn about retiring. You’re hurting the team more than helping. Give it up.
The only positive thing about Kershaw now is that he's positively 4 years beyond when he should have retired 😒
Love you Kershaw! Let’s go 💪🏼💙
The Dodger pitchers are either hurt, ineffective or inconsistent
Hasn’t been good in 10 years… biggest playoff choker of all time
38才のダルビッシュってすごいんだなー思うわ。
What’s the hype with Kershaw he was terrible including all of the following pitchers in the bullpen with the exception of Tanner Scott but what do they do pull Tanner out early then give up more hits. The pitchers for the two games cost the team the games wake up coaches.
Just look at it tomorrow… it’s your body. Look at your body.
