Runs per game are 3.35/game, which is 3rd worst in MLB.
HOWEVER:
HRs – we are top 10 in MLB (9)
Hits (including triples) – we are in the upper part of the bottom half (19).
Doubles – near the bottom.
Just going off of hits and HRs feeds into the notion that Adolis and Semien (or maybe others) are not right for the 4th and 5th batting spots. And maybe even a slight reshuffling could get us another 1-2 runs per game.
Strangest stat of all of this is that our LOB (left on base number) is one of the best, meaning least amount left on base relative to others. We are 27th out of 30, where #1 is most left on base. https://www.statspros.com/mlb-team-left-on-base-leaders/
That last stat tells me they have already maxed the order and there is nothing that can be done with this personnel.

We just can’t hit so far. Order may not help but we just gotta be better somehow.
Not sure if its the batting order just the team’s clutch factor but our batting average with RISP is 28th in MLB

Third to last in walks isn’t helping either
Batting order… maybe. IDK. Burger is heating up a bit. Adolis, I think I could strike him out. I’m sure I’m wrong but I can almost predict how his at bats are gonna go. Like, I can literally call the pitch type, location, and result. If I can see that, SURELY our coaches do too. He needs to be moved WAY down in the lineup. Like 9th, or AAA. IDK. I love him and his defense has been great this year. Semien maybe moved further down too. I mean, let’s just try it. I never saw Semien as a leadoff hitter. Bochy has been playing around with lineups, which I love. Let’s get rid of ego and try some things out. I still think we are a playoff team. I do think we need bullpen help but I read today Rocker is starting a rehab assignment and he might get moved to the bullpen. That could be just what we need.
Hitting, and hitting with RISP are two distinctive skills.
Pitchers don’t pitch the same with runners on vs off. You can’t strikeout everyone. When there are no runners on, pitchers have different ways to get the hitter out.
You can pitch to contact, try to get a strikeout, or even pitch around and just walk the batter if you don’t want to risk anything versus the current hitter.
With runners on, pitchers step it up a notch. You’re going to see nastier pitches and sharper stuff. deGrom does this exceptionally well. With runners on, you aren’t going to see many hittable pitches. Anything you see is more than likely thrown so that the hitter grounds into a double play or just general weak contact.
This is compounded by the fact that hitters aren’t necessarily trying to get a walk with RISP. The pitcher knows they want to swing and get those runners home. They’re more likely to swing and be aggressive at the plate. This yields to some ugly strikeouts because it’s obvious that our hitters are really pressing with RISP. Josh Smith’s AB yesterday was a prime example of this. Why even throw our hitters a strike when they’re more than willing to swing at absolute garbage with RISP?
Unfortunately for us, we just lose in these ABs. It shouldn’t be the case, but until our hitters step it up and ***beat*** the pitcher, it’ll remain an awful cycle. I hate that Bochy says this over and over again, but we really do just need someone to get a big hit. A double with the bases loaded, a big three run homer in a close game, just something.
I’ll take a sac fly with the bases loaded over a strikeout obviously, but the pitcher won that inning if he just gives up 1 run in a bases loaded scenario. That’s not how you run the pitcher out of the game, that’s how you give him an unbelievable amount of confidence that we are not a dangerous offense.
3 perma blackholes in every lineup
